From the editor’s desk,“To me, the greatest pleasure of writing is not what’s all about, but

the inner music the words make”.

In agreement with the above quote, I find writing as the most

valuable literary expression. Indeed writing is the painting of voice.

To inculcate the passion for creative thinking and writing amongst

the students is one of the major objective set by ‘ G.K. Shetty

Vivekananda Vidyalaya’ and Vivekavani has been a step towards

it.

It is happy to join our hands with you all with the first edition of

vivekavani this year too. Our school attains the pinnacle of joy and

success in each and every field, to name some are drawing, sports,

music, dance, academics and many more. This year ourschool has

got 53 A1 students in class 10 and 25 outstanding students in

class XII. Master Deepak Ram along with his team had added

colours to our school walls. His work was appreciated by “The Hindu”

and was also published in it.

On June 5th, on account of world Environment day tree saplings

were distributed to the people in and around Ambattur. A journey

of thousand miles begins with a single step. It was our small step

to create ‘Green Ambattur’. Now Vivekavani espouses the school’s

spirits which is built up within the school through collective action,

thoughts and aspiration.

My sincere thanks to the Principal, editorial board, students and

teachers who had been of immense help for adding colours to the

pages of Vivekavani, I wish all the readers a happy reading.

GLOBAL WARMING

Global warming had become worldwide

concern. It is gradually into an unprec-

edented environment crisis evident in melt-

ing, glaciers, changing weather patterns,

rising sea levels, floods, cyclones and

drought. Global warming implies an in-

crease in the average temperature of the

earth due to entrapment of green house

gases in the earth’s atmosphere.

SOME USEFUL WAYS TO PROTECT

THE EARTH FROM GLOBAL WARMING:

Plant more trees.

Save water instead of wasting it.

Avoid cutting trees.

Avoid pollution; don’t use plastic bags

as it is very dangerous to earth. The only way to reduce pollution is correcting ourselves and

trying to live in a peaceful surroundings.

SAVE TREES SAVE WORLD

K.SRI ARAVINDH 5 B

From the poles to the equator

“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is ac-

complished”. It’s been six billion years since the

first humans walked on this earth. We have come

so far, civilized so much and now

stand as the pinnacle of the mod-

ern world.Yet in our search for

luxury and easy life, we have de-

tached ourselves from the heart

and soul of the nature. Man sur-

vived because of nature, we still do.

All the trees are losing their leaves

and not one of them is worried. We demand

mother earth, so much of mother earth, yet give

back nothing. For us ,nature has become a tool

for our necessities and not as a power for hu-

mans to flourish.God wanted people to connect

with people, people with nature and people with

earth. In the technological era we live in, does

any real interaction happen?”There is no Wi-Fi

in the Forest, but I promise you’ll find

a better connection”Imagine a day

when you wake up to the beautiful

rays of sunlight on your cheek, the

birds chirping your melody, the air

as pure as the nature’s soul. Your

mind, your body, your soul con-

nected with nature to become

one.You give nature what it wants and it gives

you back. That’s sharing in the family.” Joy in

looking and comprehending is nature’s most

beautiful gift”.

stant named after him. He

was born in dahanu,

Maharashtra on January

17, 1905.

· He had no formal

postgraduate training and was working as a

school teacher.

· He won the wrangler R.P.Paranjpe math-

ematical prize for an original peace of work in

mathematics. He worked on recurring decimals,

magic squares and integers with special prop-

erties.

· He discovered kaprekar constant,

kaprekar numbers, self numbers, harshad num-

bers and Demolo numbers. Kaprekar constant

is 6174.

· He showed that when we subtract:

4321-1234= 3087

8730-0378=8352

8532-2358=6174

MATHS PUZZLES1. Find the next number in this sequence-

225,900,2025,______.

(Hint: 225 doesn’t have zero,while 2025 does)

2.6174 trick:Select 4 random numbers(not the same num-

ber).

For eg:9218

First arrange them in descending order(I.e,9821) and in as-

cending order(I.e,1289) and subtract them.

9821-1289=8532

Now the new number obtained is 8532,follow the same procedure mentioned above and finally-

8532-2358=6174

(Note that it will work for every number).

“Plant more trees and get more rain and live a

peaceful life in the world”.

Now-a-days people are not taking care of the

trees or the nature.People do not know that “what

happens to the future generation if they are very

logostic towards the nature”.Many policies have

been introduced to save the nature.

Ways to save the nature:-

i) Avoid using the pesticides.

ii) Plant more and more number of trees.

iii)Use jute bags.

iv)Avoid destroying the trees.

v) Save the water etc.

If we follow this,we can save the nature for the

future generations.

“Nature is like our mother.please save it and care

it”.

NATUREGod’s Gift-Nature

When the beautiful morning comes

The rays of rising sun kiss her

When the garden of nature open its heart

The garden of flowers hugs her to welcome

When the trees dance to the tune of wind

The birds singing to the nature’s choir

When the gentleness of nature is filled pleasure

Then the earth gets wet with weather

When the nature forgets its vastness

Then we thank god for this creation and to give us eyesto see his lovely gift-Nature.

WAVESThe sweet waves comes around my feet

And the water splashes up my feet!!!!!!!

The spray from the wave hit my face

And it had a salty and a tangy taste!!!!!

On a gloomy night, changes to dawn….

And my pale skin turns white……!!!!!

In the blowing wind, my hair starts to dance

My feet in the sand feel like a massage..!!!

The wave was coming towards me, as it was higher

than me…..!!!!

As it come closer to the shore……

It grabbed my feet and drags me into the sea

I feel the wave doesn’t want me to go home and

I….

Back to the shore!!!!!!

WHO PAYS THE TAX?Each of us pays tax for our income that we get

from our job. we also pay other taxes like vat, service

tax etc….these are used for our country development.

A new tax payment has been launched called

GST{goods and services tax}.This tax has created a

great impact in people…whether to accept or

not…?!Actually, this creates a burden for middle class

because they have to equalize the amount to be paid

to the amount that high class pays out….For example,

if a minister has 1500 crs ,he pays only small amount.

This creates a check for all. People in foreign under-

stand our situation but we????? We always say that

India is a developing country…buts it not done!! To

become a developed a country, everyone must pay

tax. Now, it is the people turn, to make the India a

Helen Adams Keller was born on June 27, 1880,

in Tuscumbia, Alabama. Her family lived on a

homestead, Ivy Green, that Helen's grandfather had

built decades earlier. She had two siblings, Mildred

Campbell and Phillip Brooks Keller, and two older

half-brothers from her father's prior marriage,

James and William Simpson Keller.

Helen Keller was born with

the ability to see and hear. At

19 months old, she contracted

an unknown illness described

by doctors as "an acute

congestion of the stomach

and the brain", which might

have been scarlet fever or

meningitis. The illness left her

both deaf and blind. At that

time, she was able to

communicate somewhat with

Martha Washington, the six-

year-old daughter of the family

cook, who understood her

signs; by the age of seven,

Keller had more than 60 home

signs to communicate with her

family. Even though blind and

deaf, Helen Keller had passed through many

obstacles and she learned to live with her

disabilities. She learned how to tell which person

was walking by from the vibrations their footsteps

would make.

Sullivan arrived at Keller's house in March 1887,

and immediately began to teach Helen to

communicate by spelling words into her hand,

beginning with "d-o-l-l" for the doll that she had

brought Keller as a present. Keller was frustrated,

at first, because she did not understand that every

object had a word uniquely identifying it. In fact,

HELEN KELLERwhen Sullivan was trying to teach Keller the word

for "mug", Keller became so frustrated she broke

the mug, Keller's breakthrough in communication

came the next month, when she realized that the

motions her teacher was making on the palm of

her hand, while running cool water over her other

hand, symbolized the idea of "water"; she then

nearly exhausted Sullivan demanding the names

of all the other familiar objects

in her world.

WORKS OF HELEN

KELLER

Keller wrote a total of 12

published books and several

articles.

One of her earliest pieces

of writing, at age 11, was The

Frost King (1891). There were

allegations that this story had

been plagiarized from The

Frost Fairies by Margaret

Canby. An investigation into

the matter revealed that Keller

may have experienced a case

of cryptomnesia, which was

that she had Canby's story

read to her but forgot about it, while the memory

remained in her subconscious.

At age 22, Keller published her autobiography,

The Story of My Life (1903), with help from Sullivan

and Sullivan's husband, John Macy. It recounts the

story of her life up to age 21 and was written during

her time in college.

Keller wrote “The World I Live In” in 1908, giving

readers an insight into how she felt about the

world.Out of the Dark, a series of essays on

socialism, was published in 1913.

BHAGAT SINGH

Bhagat Singh was a charismatic Indian socialist

revolutionary whose two acts of dramatic violence

against the British in India and execution at age 23

made him a folk hero of the Indian independence

movement.

In December 1928, Bhagat Singh and an asso-

ciate, ShivaramRajguru, fatally shot a 21-year-old

British police officer, John Saunders, in Lahore,

British India, mistaking

Saunders, who was still on pro-

bation, for the British police su-

perintendent, James Scott,

whom they had intended to as-

sassinate. They believed Scott

was responsible for the death of

popular Indian nationalist leader

LalaLajpatRai, by having or-

dered a lathi charge in which Rai

was injured, and, two weeks af-

ter which, died of a heart attack.

Saunders was felled by a single

shot from Rajguru, a marksman.

He was then shot several times

by Singh, the postmortem report

showing eight bullet

wounds.Another associate of

Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad,

shot dead an Indian police con-

stable, Chanan Singh, who attempted to pursue

Singh and Rajguru as they fled.

After escaping, Singh and his associates, using

pseudonyms, publicly owned to avenging

LajpatRai's death, putting up prepared posters,

which, however, they had altered to show Saunders

as their intended target.Singh was thereafter on

the run for many months, and no convictions re-

sulted at the time. Surfacing again in April 1929,

he and another associate, BatukeshwarDutt, ex-

ploded two improvised bombs inside the Central

Legislative Assembly in Delhi. They showered leaf-

lets from the gallery on the legislators below,

shouted slogans, and then allowed the authorities

to arrest them.[8] The arrest, and the resulting pub-

licity, had the effect of bringing to light Singh's com-

plicity in the John Saunders case. Awaiting trial,

Singh gained much public sympathy after he joined

fellow defendant Jatin Das in a hunger strike, de-

manding better prison conditions for Indian pris-

oners, and ending in Das's death

from starvation in September

1929. Singh was convicted and

hanged in March 1931, aged 23.

Bhagat Singh became a

popular folk hero after his death.

Jawaharlal Nehru wrote about

him, "Bhagat Singh did not be-

come popular because of his act

of terrorism but because he

seemed to vindicate, for the

moment, the honour of

LalaLajpat Rai, and through him

of the nation. He became a sym-

bol; the act was forgotten, the

symbol remained, and within a

few months each town and vil-

lage of the Punjab, and to a

lesser extent in the rest of north-

ern India, resounded with his name. In still later

years, Singh, an atheist and socialist in life, won

admirers in India from among a political spectrum

that included both Communists and right-wing

Hindu nationalists. Although many of Singh's as-

sociates, as well as many Indian anti-colonial revo-

lutionaries, were also involved in daring acts, and

were either executed or died violent deaths, few

came to be lionized in popular art and literature to

the same extent as Singh.

GLOBAL WARMING"Global warming everywhere, no solution any-

where".

Global warming, also referred to as climate

change, is theobserved century-scale rise in the

average temperature of the Earth's climate sys-

tem and its related effects. Multiple lines of scien-

tific evidence show that the climate system is

warming. Many of the observed changes since the

1950s are unprecedented in the instrumental tem-

perature record which extends back to the mid-

19th century, and in paleoclimate proxy records

covering thousands of years.

Almost 100% of the ob-

served temperature increase

over the last 50 years has been

due to the increase in the

atmosphereof greenhouse gas

concentrations like water

vapour,CO2,methane and ozone.

Greenhouse gases are those

gases that contribute to the

greenhouse effect . The largest

contributing source of greenhouse gas is the burn-

ing of fossil fuels leading to the emission of carbon

dioxide.When sunlight reaches Earth's surface

some is absorbed andwarms the earth and most

of the rest is radiated back to the atmosphere at a

longer wavelength than the sun light. Someof these

longer wavelengths are absorbed by greenhouse

gases inthe atmosphere before they are lost to

space. The absorption of this longwave radiant

energy warms the atmosphere. Thesegreenhouse

gases act like a mirror and reflect back to theEarth

some of the heat energy which would otherwise

be lost to space. The reflecting back of heat en-

ergy by the atmosphere is called the "greenhouse

effect."

The major natural greenhouse gases are water

vapour, which causes about 36-70% of the green-

house effect of ; CO2, which causes 9-26%; meth-

ane, which causes 4-9%, and ozone, whichcauses

3-7%. It is not possible to state that a certain gas

causes a certain percentage of the greenhouse

effect, because the influences of the various gases

are not additive. Other greenhouse gases include,

but are not limited to, nitrous oxide sulfur hexafluo-

ride, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and

chlorofluorocarbons.

The increase of greenhouse gas concentra-

tion led to a substantial warming of the earth and

the sea, called global warming.Changes in tem-

perature and precipitation patterns increase the

frequency, duration, and intensity of other extreme

weather events, such as floods,

droughts, heat waves, and tor-

nadoes. Other effects of global

warming include higher or lower

agricultural yields, further glacial

retreat, reduced summer stream

flows, species extinctions. As a

further effect of global warming,

diseases like malaria are return-

ing into areas where they have

been extinguished earlier.

We can prevent global warming by replacing

regulatingandescent light bulb with compact fluo-

rescent light (CFL) bulbs. They consume 70% less

energy than ordinary bulbs and have longer life-

time. Reduce your need to buy new products or

use less, resulting in a smaller amount of waste.

Even if you need to buy, consider buying eco-

friendly products. It is most effective of the three

R’s. It simply says cut back from where are you

now. Planting trees can help much in reducing glo-

bal warming than any other method. They not only

give oxygen but also take in carbon dioxide, dur-

ing the process of photosynthesis, which is the main

source of global warming.

"Every action has a reaction.

We have one planet;

one chance".

The best portion of a good man’s life is his little

,nameless ,unremembered acts of kindness and

of love.

- Wordsworth.

Born: 7 April 1770, Cockermouth,

Cumberland, England.

Died:23 April 1850(aged

80),England.

Notable works: Lyrical

ballads, poems in two

volumes…….

William Wordsworth

attended Hawshead

Grammar School.After

Hawkshead, Wordsworth

studied at St. John’s College

in Cambridge and before his

final semester, he set out on a

walking tour of Europe, an experi-

ence that influenced both his poetry and

his political sensibilities.Wordsworth's first poems,

Descriptive Sketches and An Evening Walk, were

printed in 1793.

He wrote several pieces over the next several

years. The year 1797 marked the beginning of

Wordsworth's long friendship with Samuel Taylor

Coleridge (1772–1834). Together they published

Lyrical Ballads in 1798. Wordsworth wanted to chal-

lenge "the gaudiness [unnecessarily flashy] and

inane [foolish] phraseology [wording] of many mod-

ern writers."

Most of his poems in this collection centered on

the simple yet deeply human feelings of ordinary

people, phrased in their own language. His views

on this new kind of poetry were more fully described

in the important "Preface" that he wrote for the

second edition (1800).

. The Prelude or, Growth of a Poet's Mind; An

Autobiographical Poem is an autobio-

graphical poem in blank verse by

the English poet William

Wordsworth.[1] Intended as

the introduction to the more

philosophical Recluse,

which Wordsworth never

finished, The Prelude is

an extremely personal

and revealing work on

the details of

Wordsworth's life.

Wordsworth began The

Prelude in 1798 at the age

of 28 and continued to work

on it throughout his life.

He never gave it a title; he called

it the "Poem (title not yet fixed upon) to

Coleridge" and in his letters to Dorothy Wordsworth

referred to it as "the poem on the growth of my

own mind". The poem was unknown to the gen-

eral public until published three months after

Wordsworth's death in 1850, its final name given

to it by his widow Mary and his other poems were I

Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, The Solitary Reaper,

The Tables Turned, The Idiot Boy and so on.

Wordsworth's estrangement (growing apart)

from Coleridge in 1810 deprived him of a powerful

incentive to imaginative and intellectual alertness.

Wordsworth's appointment to a government posi-

tion in 1813 relieved him of financial care.In 1843

Wordsworth was appointed poet laureate (official

poet of a country). He died on April 23, 1850.

Beautiful NatureLife and nature are similar concepts because

nature is the shady of how life acts and interacts

within the circle of existence. It is important to

spend time in nature because in this way we can

become attain to its wisdom. On the other

hand, when we ignore. The beauty of nature and

spend our time in an urban jungle. Our stress level

go up and begin to feel as if we are made out of

the concrete that we see all around us!!

ENJOY NATURE

The theme implores us to get outdoors and the na-

ture. To appreciate its beauty and its importance to

protect the earth that we share. Connecting to nature

can involve all the physical sense like walking with-

out the shoes to experience the nature. In cities it

can be experienced by planting a sapling. In the age

of smart phones, connecting with nature is very

important. We need a clear harmony between human-

ity and nature.Finallyfrom your back yard to national

park. Nature is closer than you think and now it’s time

to enjoy nature.
