Getting Startedwith Padlet

Padlet, unlike most sites these days, does not require a login to use. However, for the purpose of theseinstructions, please DO create yourself an account so you can save the boards you create and the

information your students add to them. Students DO NOT need an account to participate.

Creating Your Account

1. Start by going to Padlet.com and click the Login or Sign Up button at thetop right of the page.

For this example, I am going to use myGoogle account to log into Padlet.

After clicking on the Google button, I am taken to thisscreen, which asks me to accept giving permission forPadlet to view my email address and to view basicinformation about my account.

Click Accept.

Once you have been logged in, you’llnotice a small dashboard at the topright of the page with the iconspictured to the right.

Building and Setting Up a Wall

To build your first wall, you can either choose the + icon at theupper right of the screen, or you can click on the large “Build aWall” button in the center of the screen.

Wait for a few seconds and your newwall will appear. Your menu optionsare listed to the right of the wall andyou can also make modifications to thewall’s appearance from this panel aswell.

Let’s start by modifying the wall’sappearance. Click on Modify Wall.

Choose a Portrait image to associatewith the wall.

Title / DescriptionUse these fields to provide studentswith specific directions for theactivity or assignment.

Click on Wallpaper to choose a new background for your wall.There is a long list of choices.

In the Layout option, you can choose betweenFreeform or Stream. If you want to give your studentsa Twitter-like environment, choose Stream. Posts inthe Stream format are arranged in chronological order.

In the Privacy panel, you have theoption to make the wall completelyprivate, password protected, ahidden link to the wall or completelypublic.

For classes, ,making the wall privateis not ideal as you will need to addpeople by email address to give themaccess to the wall.

You can password protect the walland also select the editing level ofthose who you allow on your wall.

A hidden link may be the best optionwhen using Padlet with youngerusers. They can easily access the

wall, but the link isn’t searchable by Google.

You have additional privacyoptions where you can inviteusers by email.

You can also choose to moderateall posts to the wall.

Be sure to click SUBMIT whenyou’ve completed the selection ofyour options.

Set up notifications for new posts, and they’ll be emailed toyou daily.

The final customization is theaddress (link) to your Padletwall. You can either leave it asthe default link or come upwith a “vanity” link.

Adding To Your Wall

Now that you have your wallset up, it’s time to beginadding content.

Double-click anywhere onthe wall to add a new “post”.

Give your post a Title, typesome text and you can alsoadd a link, upload a file orpicture or even snap animage from a webcam.

Posts can be created bydragging images and

documents directly to the board aswell.

Editing a PostOnce the post is created, you can thenedit the post to add a title and text.Look for the pencil icon at the upperright of the post to edit.

Sharing / Exporting Your Wall

Padlet walls have a variety of sharing and export options.You can access the sharing/export functions by clickingon the square with the arrow on the right side of thescreen.

Exporting OptionsYour Padlet wall can be exported with the following fileformats:

● Image● PDF● Excel● CSV

Your wall can also be embedded on a website using theprovided embed code.NOTE: For WordPress sites, you may need to try bothembed functions to see which works.

QR CodeAnd for an easy way to share the wall with students, eachwall comes with it’s own QR code. Right-click on the QRimage and save it to your computer to use it in a handoutor project it on your screen for student to easily scanwith their mobile devices.

Accessing Original Content / Scrolling Through Content

When you click on a resource in a wall to open it up, you can find theoriginal file/site by looking in the bottom right corner. Find theSource button and click on it. This will take you to the original file orwebsite.

When you have a Padlet post opened, you can CLOSE the post byclicking on the X at the top right corner. You can also use theArrows to scroll through the posts. Notice that in the screenshotto the left that it indicates which post (of 12) that I am currentlyviewing.
