+Where to Start- Finding Your Dashboard Once you have been given “Contributor” status, you’ll

have some new options on your admin bar.

The admin bar is the gray bar that appears at the top of the screen after you have logged in.

From left to right, you should see My Account, My Blogs, Notifications and possible Blog Authors.

When you hover over My Blogs, you will see a drop down menu appear with the blogs (sectors) for which you have permission to write.

Tour the New Post Page

Once you find the New Post Page, you’ll see several boxes that will help you write and format your article, and make sure it gets published to the right spot in the portal.

The next few slides will walk you through these “boxes” and take you on a brief tour of the New Post Page.

+Title and body

The first few boxes are pretty self explanatory.

TitleEnter the title of your post/article here. Text BoxThis is where your article/post goes.

(There is no need to type your byline, it will appear automatically.)

+Text Box Tips You can make the text box bigger by clicking and

dragging the bottom right corner. Or, if you like, you can toggle between full screen mode.

There are several basic formatting buttons, as you can see. You can get more by clicking on “More Options” button (highlighted above in green)

+Formatting Options

You may use any of the formatting buttons at the top of the text box to format your post.

Buttons you should use often – link and spell check!

If you’re not sure what a button does, hover over it and it will tell you!

+WP Geo Location

If your post is about something with a specific location, please include it in our map!

Simply type in the city and country, then click search. (You can also just type the country if it is not specific).

If you do not have a location related to the post, just leave this blank.

+All in One SEO PackThis box is very important for helping people find your post via

search engines.

In the Title box, you may use the same title as your post, or an alternative one. Best practice is to have a catchy title for blog post, and a descriptive title for your SEO title.

Description – here just type a short sentence or two describing the post and what it is about.

Keywords – Think of keywords that could be used to describe your post, or words that might be used to search for your post. Try to come up with as many as possible.

Page 12: Getting started

+Categories One of the most important things to do is assign your

post to the appropriate categories. You may select as many as you wish, but make sure you select the category that names your sector.

For example, if you are writing a post for the Agriculture site, you will see the category “Agriculture” as well as many subcategories underneath. You may select any (or as many as you wish) of the subcategories, but make sure you also select “Agriculture.” If you don’t, your post will not display properly.

Do NOT

Please do not add new categories. If you feel there are categories missing, please let us know.

Please do not use the GBI Highlights category – this is for GBI Official use only.

+Tags Tags are another way of main sure your content can be

found by those who are interested. Here you have a little more freedom. Type in as many words as possible that describe what your post is about. It might help to see the list of the most commonly used tags. Feel free to use these or any others that you think best describes your content.

(You can duplicate the list of keywords that you created in the SEO box)

+When You’re Done…

When you are finished, find the Publish Box on the upper right.

(Depending on your account, your blue button may say “Submit”)

Click on the Publish/Submit button when you are done.

If you would like to leave it as a a draft so that you can come back and work on it later, just click on Save Draft.
