Critical Changes

The policies at the Westin have changed with a recent ownership change; the hotel will not be

receiving checks or other payments onsite. The payment for your rooms must be received by the

hotel by March 28, 2016. Rooms will be at a cost of $124 per night. We will all be using a

rooming sheet that many have used in the past, shown in this document as Form A. A separate

Word version will also be sent that is editable. You can fill out that form, scan and email it or you

may fax it. The rooming list must be received by the hotel by March 15, 2016. Payment for the

rooms may be by check or card; the tax exemption form can accompany either the rooming list or

the check.

Important Changes

We will try to plan and have Professional Division competitive events for advisers and others.

These tests will be available on Friday for Professional division members to drop in and take.

The tests will be on PBL Knowledge, Global Awareness, and Georgia Geography and History.

We will have Open Events for members. A testing session on Friday will allow for members to

drop in and take any of the tests they wish. The tests will be on Business Calculations, Business

Etiquette, Medical Terminology, and The Medical Office.

We will have an Opening Session as usual. We will also have a Second Session on Friday during

which we will award the Open Events, announce finalists and have Battle of the Chapters. On

Saturday, there is the usual Voting Delegate session as well as the Chapter Awards session. This

is intended to shorten the time on the Saturday Award ceremony. Each of the previous three

sessions are intended to be at or near an hour long.

Job Interview, Future Business Executive, and Future Business Educator no longer include the job

application requirement.

Forensic Accounting is a competitive event that requires a response to a scenario. This scenario

will be given to participating teams at the end of the Opening Session.

Foundation Friday Night! Help raise money for the Georgia PBL Foundation and win prizes by

playing BINGO or Team Trivia on Friday night of the conference. $1 to play either-

Members participating in a Saturday performance event and a Saturday written test will take

their written test at the 8:00AM session to avoid scheduling conflict.

EVENT PARTICIPATION

• Each PBL competitor may compete in any two events. (Exceptions are listed in the Chapter

Management Handbook.)

Page 8: GEORGIA PHI BETA · PDF fileGEORGIA PHI BETA LAMBDA Invites you to attend the 2016 Georgia PBL State Leadership Conference To be held at The Westin Atlanta North at Perimeter

8

• One chapter may send only two competitors or teams to compete in the same

performance event. Only three from a chapter may compete in the same written event.

• If a member has competed at a previous national conference OR has been eligible to

compete at the national conference, he or she may not again compete in that event.

EVENT INFORMATION

As a general rule, we follow the PBL NAP Competitive Event Guidelines. Where there is a

deviation, it is because of time and/or logistics restraints. In addition, should an issue be raised at

state competition by an adviser that requires a “judgment” be made, the state executive

committee will review the issue and make a ruling using their collective experience. Any decisions

that are made to resolve disputes are done so with the best interests of the students and “spirit of

competitive fairness” in mind.

Members must adhere to the dress code established by the National Board of Directors in order

to participate in a competitive event (including written test events) at state competition. A copy of

the dress code is included in the National Organization section of the Chapter Management

Handbook.

Members must be registered for competition and their registration fee and membership dues paid

in order to participate in a competitive event.

See page 42 of the Chapter Management Handbook regarding changes that include competitive

events. Also, refer to page 49 for specific guidelines and regulations, including special eligibility

guidelines. With some exceptions as shown on page 49, members may not repeat an event in

which

they competed at an NLC or in which they placed first or second at a Georgia PBL State

Conference.

Please ensure that competitors are at the designated place for their event before the event

begins and especially when they are scheduled to compete. Check your event time!!! Students

not in place when an event begins or when their performance time occurs will not be allowed to

compete. If there is a conflict in times, please let an executive committee member know.

Performance times will be posted; every effort is made to reconcile any scheduling conflicts

based upon the events for which a student is registered.

Calculators are permitted (as specified in the event descriptions) and must be provided by the

students. Graphing calculators and others equipped with memory devices are not permitted.

Cell phones, laptops, tablets, and other electronic devices are not permitted in the testing areas.

Students must provide sharpened No. 2 pencils.

Events requiring advance preparation of items such as letters of application, resumes, reference

letters, videos, Web sites, etc. (Example: Job Interview, FBE, FBT, Web Site Design, etc.) must be

submitted to Sam Lester, Central Georgia Technical College, and postmarked by March 21,

2016.

You have already received your 2015-2016 Awards of Merit guidelines, Adviser of the Year,

and Chapter of the Year criteria, which are also listed on the georgiapbl.org website. Please

read and follow these event guidelines. Submit the form and documentation electronically to Sam

Lester, [email protected], by March 21, 2016.

All chapter activity reports (Community Project Service and Local Annual Business Report) are to

be submitted electronically to Sam Lester, [email protected], by March 21, 2016. These

report requirements are found on page 60; the report must be one document.

VOTING DELEGATES

Schools with 1-49 members are allowed two voting delegates. Schools with 50-110 members

are allowed 3 and those with more than 100 members are allowed 4. The great majority of our

chapters fall into the first category; two voting delegates for each chapter will be assumed unless

a chapter provides evidence of 50 or more members to warrant a third or fourth voting

delegate.

SILENT AUCTION

The Georgia Phi Beta Lambda Foundation will sponsor the silent auction. We ask that each

chapter bring one or more items to contribute to our silent auction for the PBL Foundation. Please

turn the items in at registration to Ms. Carol Pearson. The auction will be held from 9:00 a.m. —

4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
