Phi Beta Lambda Chapter #6662
University of North Alabama
UNA Box 5317
Florence, AL 35632-0001
Dear Beta Alpha Phi Chapter Members
I would like to personally thank you all for your dedication to the chapter and the
commitment that you keep every day to our wonderful University of North Alabama. Our
chapter has held prestige on campus for many years, especially in the College of Business.
You are all extremely outstanding students, and I am thankful for all that you do for our
organization and the determination that you have in your academic and personal lives.
Also, I would like to thank all of the officers for the support you have given me. Our
organization could not have been successful were it not for your time and dedication.
Our chapter currently has sixteen student members and two professional members. The
University of North Alabama is surrounded by the main city of Florence, Alabama, and the
three surrounding cities, known collectively as The Shoals. Florence is the largest of the
four cities and continues to grow rapidly with the number of students coming to attend our
university. Currently, there are over 7,200 students enrolled at the university, and the
population of Florence is roughly 40,000. The remaining three cities and their respective
populations are: Muscle Shoals with roughly 13,500; Sheffield with roughly 9,000; and
Tuscumbia with roughly 8,500.
The Beta Alpha Phi Chapter, number 6662 of Phi Beta Lambda, was chartered 43 years
ago by Ms. Ellen Moore, and continues to grow with dedicated members. Mrs. Donna
Yancey began advising the chapter 38 years ago and is still the advisor; she recently earned
the title of Professor Emeritus of Marketing. Mrs. Yancey was recognized in July 2012
with 35 years of service to Phi Beta Lambda. She was added to the “Adviser Wall of
Fame” in 2003.
Beta Alpha Phi is looking forward to next year as we hope to improve our dedicated
membership roster and grow community connections. Thank you for your time, patience,
loyalty, and focus in choosing to “Step Up to the Challenge” through your work in the Beta
Alpha Phi chapter at the University of North Alabama.
Sincerely
Hannah Faith Aycock
Phi Beta Lambda, President

ACTIVITIES TO BENEFIT CHAPTER AND
ITS MEMBERS
RECRUITMENT ACTIVITIES
SOAR
Beta Alpha Phi participated in the
University of North Alabama’s Summer
Orientation and Advanced Registration’s
Student Organization Browse Fair in
June and July in order to begin peaking
students’ interest early. There were
seven SOAR sessions – five were
specifically for freshmen and two were
for transfer students. Many students
were members of Future Business
Leaders of America in high school and
were interested in continuing their
experience in college through PBL.
UNA Preview Day
Beta Alpha Phi also supported the
University of North Alabama by
participating in its annual "Preview Day."
This day is the university’s largest
recruiting day. Over 2000 students and
parents attended Preview Day on
November 1, 2014. As it always does,
the Beta Alpha Phi Chapter participated
by organizing a display to promote the
benefits of joining PBL. The chapter also
served as the official welcome to the
College of Business, where the College
of Business dean, faculty, and
ambassadors hosted information sessions
for prospective students and the
opportunity to visit with each department.
Current PBL Vice-President, Brian
Carpenter and Secretary, Kaitlin Eckl
were on hand to answer students’
questions concerning the organization.

ACTIVITIES TO BENEFIT CHAPTER AND
ITS MEMBERS
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
New Officer Training
The following students were Beta Alpha
Phi officers for 2014-2015:
President Hannah Aycock
Vice-President Brian Carpenter
Treasurer Elizabeth Strickland
Secretary Kaitlin Eckl
Co-Reporter Jennifer Hogan
Co-Reporter Jordan Simmons
Each officer was provided with an
officer’s pamphlet detailing the duties
and responsibilities of their particular
elected office. Two officers were elected
for the position of Reporter. Jennifer
Hogan headed the chapter’s social media
campaign, and Jordan Simmons created
print materials for Beta Alpha Phi to use
in publications. Officer meetings were
held every two weeks prior to general
meetings. The officers planned out the
details and necessary actions that needed
to be taken to secure a productive next
meeting. Our officers work
collaboratively and individually with the
chapter adviser.
2014 UNA RSO Retreat
On August 23, 2014, the chapter
President, Vice-Preisdent, Treasurer, and
Secretary attended an on-campus
Registered Student Organization
conference for OrgSync training and
development and to receive allocation for
student funding. OrgSync is a website to
assist the Recognized Student
Organizations with submitting Student
Allocation Funding electronically. With
the helpful built-in tools, administrators
and officers are able to create events,
send messages, and post organization
updates to fellow members and other
organizations.
Phi Beta Lambda Luncheon
As a Beta Alpha Phi chapter tradition, the
chapter organized a luncheon for all
members and advisers. This year’s
luncheon was held on December 4, 2014
at Legend’s Steakhouse in Florence. Six
student members and our chapter advisor,
Donna Yancey, attended the luncheon.
Since this 2014-2015 year was spent
restructuring the inner workings of our
chapter, we did not have a specified
Business Advisory Board. We did invite
many community and business leaders as
well as other faculty to be a part of our
luncheon.

ACTIVITIES TO BENEFIT CHAPTER AND
ITS MEMBERS
CAREER EXPLORATION AND PREPARATION
In order to better prepare the members of
our chapter for careers in the business
world, Beta Alpha Phi invites speakers to
our general meetings. These speakers
inform students of their careers and the
education it takes to have a career in
certain fields. Though we spoke to many
prospective speakers this year, none were
available to present during our general
meeting times.
BUSINESS PARTNERSHIPS
Beta Alpha Phi is growing, changing, and
making strides on our own campus. This
year, we had many faculty and staff help
us to promote and revamp Beta Alpha
Phi into a more successful organization.
During the spring semester of 2012, our
chapter donated $1,300 dollars to the
University of North Alabama’s
Foundation to be put towards
scholarships to deserving students. We
were honored with a sponsored dinner
and given a plaque commemorating our
donation. The dinner was sponsored by
the University’s Foundation and honored
local businesses and individuals who
express concern for a more accessible
higher education and put forth the effort
to make higher education attainable for
all students who dream of earning their
college degree. Beta Alpha Phi was
delighted and privileged to donate money
to scholarships that will greatly impact
our local economy.
The Office of Student Engagement was
and continues to be a valued asset of
PBL. Through the Office of Student
Engagement, we coordinate available
funds so that our members may
participate in state and national
conferences. Student Engagement is
instrumental in our endeavors to recruit
and fundraise. They provide key items
and have resources that our PBL chapter
actively uses to promote our organization
and spread knowledge about PBL and its
benefits.

ACTIVITIES TO BENEFIT CHAPTER AND
ITS MEMBERS
CHAPTER FUNDRAISING
The following financial statement
presented in this annual report was
unaided and prepared by Treasurer
Elizabeth Strickland who is an
Accounting major. She and the advisor
believe that this financial statement fairly
represents the financial position of the
chapter in compliance with generally
accepted accounting principles. In
preparing these financial statements, the
chapter functions on a cash basis. The
Beta Alpha Phi chapter’s internal control
structure is designed to provide, with
reasonable assurance, protection of the
chapters assets from unauthorized use
and that all transactions are executed in
accordance with established authorization
and it is recorded properly.

ACTIVITIES TO BENEFIT CHAPTER AND
ITS MEMBERS
PUBLIC RELATIONS ACTIVITIES AND CHAPTER PUBLICITY
This year, Beta Alpha Phi’s goal was to
increase public awareness of Phi Beta
Lambda on the University of North
Alabama’s campus. Co-Reporter
Jennifer Hogan utilized Twitter and
Instagram as our primary source for
keeping our members and the university
informed of upcoming meetings and
events. Our second Co-Reporter, Jordan
Simmons, created posters to publicize our
meetings and events throughout the
College of Business. Chapter President,
Hannah Aycock, sent campus-wide
emails to all students and faculty of the
university. We also used Orgsync to
communicate with the university, and we
ran articles in the College of Business
alumni website and newspaper to
communicate with recent alums from the
university.

ACTIVITIES TO BENEFIT OTHER
INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS
STATE AND NATIONAL PROJECTS
American Enterprise Day
On November 17, 2014, Phi Beta
Lambda provided vanilla cupcakes with
red, blue and white icing in recognition
of American Free Enterprise Day. This
holiday was started by Jimmy Carter in
the late 1970s to honor and recognize our
free market economy. We distributed
information and brochures about
American Free Enterprise Day and
discussed various aspects of our current
economy with faculty and students in the
College of Business.
OTHER COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
The Beta Alpha Phi Chapter strives to
uphold the University of North
Alabama’s long-standing record of
excellence with service to the school
through academic, social, and volunteer
organizations. The chapter is dedicated to
the development of well-rounded
business school graduates. Many Phi
Beta Lambda members participate in a
variety of other organizations such as:
College of Business Ambassadors, Delta
Mu Delta, Accounting Scholars, Honors
Program, Association for Information
Systems, Sigma Alpha Pi – National
Society for Leadership and Success, Phi
Kappa Phi, Impact Alabama, and Phi
Theta Kappa Alumni Association.

ACTIVITIES TO BENEFIT OTHER
INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS
OTHER COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
SafePlace, Inc.
Halloween Candy Drive
SafePlace is a program that provides
safety for individuals and families
affected by sexual and domestic violence.
The organization also helps victims heal
so they can move beyond being defined
by the crimes committed against them.
Chapter officers organized the 2014
annual campus candy drive for SafePlace,
Inc. The Beta Alpha Phi Chapter, the
faculty, the staff, and the students at the
University of North Alabama donated
over 100 bags of candy for the children in
the Shoals area.
The underprivileged children who were
unable to trick-or-treat due to their
circumstances were excited to see their
pumpkins full of candy on Halloween.
Salvation Army “Angel Tree”
Every winter season, the Beta Alpha Phi
chapter adopts at least one child from the
Salvation Army’s “Angel Tree.” This
year a little girl became the chapter’s
Angel. After the annual Holiday Business
Luncheon, the adviser and a few
members shopped for gifts. The chapter
spent almost $100 on this child with
donated funds from the chapter and its
members.

CONFERENCES AND RECOGNITION
PARTICIPATION IN PBL CONFERENCES
Alabama State Leadership Conference
Beta Alpha Phi competed in its first state
competition in 1988 and has each
consecutive year since then. Seven PBL
students were accompanied by Mrs.
Donna Yancey to last year’s Alabama
State Leadership Conference. All
students competed in two different
competitions, and the chapter brought
home 7 first place awards, 3 second place
awards, and 2 third place awards. This
was another excellent award winning
year for the UNA chapter. The students
have proven themselves to be worthy
competitors against other colleges in
Alabama.
National Leadership Conference
Our students have consistently placed in
the top ten in the nation with 105 national
awards over the past 28 consecutive
national conferences. Last year, two
students and Mrs. Donna Yancey
attended the National Leadership
Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
Both students placed fourth in their
respective events. UNA's Phi Beta
Lambda chapter is the most recognized
and successful chapter in the state and in
the top 5% of the nation.
OTHER CHAPTER AND INDIVIDUAL RECOGNITIONS EARNED
Beta Alpha Phi has been recognized as
Alabama’s ‘Chapter of the Year’ for
seventeen years. The chapter, as a whole,
has also received the Gold Seal Chapter
Award of Merit/Outstanding Chapter for
seventeen years. The members of the
chapter work diligently on the University
of North Alabama campus and around the
city of Florence. Although they are not
publically recognized for the work they
do in other campus organizations, these
students are highly involved and active.
