ARTIST OF THE WEEK—WEEK 1

This week all classes have been looking at symmetry

and making patterns from paper.

We folded kinder squares into either quarters or

eights before cutting a pattern into the paper.

It was wonderful to see the expression on students

faces and the excitement in their voices when they

unfolded their paper to reveal the pattern that

they had made. Students were engaged and genu-

inely loved this activity.

Well done Jindarra, our Artist of the Week!

We told you so. Back in newsletter # 14 you were

advised that Miss Azzopardi’s class had planted

vegetables. Well take a look at these beauties..

Great weather and a lot of student dedication,

sees this patch flourish. If the occasional lettuce

leaf goes missing, don’t go looking for a “wascally

wabbit”, go looking for the editor.

What’s happening at GSPS.

I’d like to welcome all our families and staff back to what will no doubt be an extremely

busy Term 4 as we have school camp coming up, our ‘So you Think You Can Dance’ school

concert, along with a variety of assessments that will be conducted prior to teachers com-

pleting reports.

I love this term because students start comparing their results from the beginning of the

school year and are able to look at their academic growth, along with all their achieve-

ments. They’re able to revisit their goals that they set and prioritise new goals for the

following year.

I’d like to thank our parent group for their assistance in the school yard over the holidays. A big thank you also

to Max & Tracy Keen, Warren Hall and Al for their gardening skills. We are extremely fortunate to have ex-

tensive grounds, but these grounds require considerable and ongoing maintenance and without their support our

yards wouldn’t receive the care they do.

The Parent Opinion Survey reports arrived today. This survey is a valuable source of feedback to staff. It de-

tails what we are doing well and areas we need to improve, so thank you to those parents who completed it. I

must say the results were disappointing for staff to read as the results were down from last year. It is upset-

ting when I know how hard staff are working towards providing a solid education for our students.

I’d like to remind parents that we have a fortnightly newsletter that shows the detailed learning occurring in

classrooms along with upcoming events during the term. It is critical that parents read this newsletter and take

note of any school events at the top of the front page. Each newsletter lists what is coming up and times /

dates etc.

As the warm weather approaches, I’d like to take this opportunity to remind parents and students that snakes

are now becoming active. Please maintain your vigilance and remind your child /children to take care when walk-

ing near parks /gardens..
