MDG – Goals 4&5

Goal 4 – Reduce Child Mortality

Goal 5 – Improve Maternal Health

We chose these goals as we need to make sure the children are born and the mothers are healthy

before we worry about goals that don’t concern mortality.

Our Charity - Women And Children First (UK)

This charity saves the lives of mothers and babies who are dying in poorer countries like parts of Africa and Asia. They help millions of women give a successful birth and produce

a healthy child.

What they do

Why we chose this CharityWe chose this charity because a lot of the money

given actually goes to helping mothers and babies. They also cover two of the Millennium Development

Goals which is better.

Archana Kumari married at the age of 13 and had her

first baby at the age of 14 at home as she didn’t know

about women and children first. At the age of just 17 she is having her second baby and this time she is able to get the

help she so desperately needs.

Ram Maya Praya is one of the many grandmothers living in

Bharta village, in Nepal. A new baby was born into her family. When he was born it was still and cold and they thought he

was going to die. But Ram Maya was able to save her grandson

due to the skills women and children first had provided her

with.

By putting us through, you will give a child the chance to live and give

a mother or grandmother like Archana and Ram Maya the child they always hoped for. As we are

one of the top schools in Scotland, giving the money to women and

children first will boost the charity’s image and therefore,

more donations will be made, and more lives will be saved.
