GENERAL INFORMATION

Italiana Membrane, established in 1988, is one of the main pro-ducers of waterproofi ng construction materials in Italy. The con-stant technological development of the manufacturing lines has allowed Italiana Membrane to extend its range of products.

The company produces bitumen modifi ed waterproofi ng mem-branes, APP, SBS and POE, self-adhesive membranes, heat in-sulation laminated with waterproofi ng membranes, bitumen shingles and water-based protective liquids. This wide range of products has over the years successfully been competing in qual-ity and innovation with others producers in European countries.

The Italiana Membrane products are sold in over 50 countries all over the world. Approximately 60% of the total produced mate-rials are supplied to the Italian market while the remaining 40% are exported to most of the European countries, Middle East, Far East, Africa.

To be competitive on the export markets Italiana Membrane produces materials in accordance with the highest standards.

All products are certifi cated by prestigious certifi cation bodies.

The manufacturing lines of Italiana Membrane are extremely adaptable and the technical staff consists of experienced and high-qualifi ed technicians.

The key of the successful activity of Italiana Membrane resides in the high quality of research and controls before, during and after production.

Following the regional market demands, Corporation extends geography of the production sites. This makes TECHNONICOL more fl exible and able to supply products more promptly without the added transportation costs. Italiana Membrane is also inte-grated into TECHNONICOL development plan.

At the end of 2013 Italiana Membrane plant became a part of the TECHNONICOL Corporation. The corporate has more than 50 000 customers between organizations and individuals spread out over Russia, Europe and CIS.

TECHNONICOL is the largest Russian and European manufacturer and supplier of roofi ng and waterproofi ng materials. The range includes bitumen membranes, bitumen shingles, sound insula-tion, heat insulation of extruded polystyrene and stone wool as well as accessories to solve every waterproofi ng problem of both fl at or pitched roofs.

Although the company was founded in 1992, it has plants, his-tory and experience that, put together offer more than 100 years of knowledge in the production of roof waterproofi ng materials.

The production capacity of the Italiana Membrane plant is 20 million sq. m per year. The plant has 3 lines for the produc-tion of polymer-bitumen materials, 1 line for shingles, 1 line for producing of waterproofi ng liquids (including water-based) and 1 line for the lamination of heat insulation panels.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Competence of employees, professional technical advice, devel-opment of new materials in our own R&D centers, quality prod-ucts and solutions - all these allow TECHNONICOL to approach each client individually. And help us meet every customer’s ex-pectations and needs. Cooperation with design institutes and architectural offi ces allows the Corporation to react fl exibly and quickly to changes in the consumers demand. Thanks to several improvements within the organisation and fa-cility on a long-term base in 2004 Italiana Membrane was grant-ed the environment certifi cation UNI EN ISO 14001.

Since 1997, when the company became UNI EN ISO 9001 certi-fi ed, Italiana Membrane strictly complies with the quality stan-dards provided by this international requirement.

According to Construction Products Directive CPD 89/106/EEC, in 2006 the company has been certifi ed to the Factory Production Control no. GB 06/69406 for the CE marking of the products according to EN 13707, EN 13969 and EN 14695 standards.

Furthermore the research and development laboratory, has ob-tained many product certifi cations issued by prestigious Italian and foreign institutes:

Since 2004, Italiana Membrane is committed to continuous im-provement of pollution prevention and environmental protec-tion, which is also the main aim of TECHNONICOL Corporation.

All plants of the Corporation are subjected to state environ-mental appraisal at their design stage. The inside and out-side environment at our industrial sites is monitored daily. TECHNONICOL invests in wastefree production, advanced equipment, and environmental protection technologies.

All products developed and manufactured by TECHNONICOL meet sanitary and environmental standards and are safe for human beings and the environment.

Material RADONSTOP is an effective protection against radon, providing isolation of inner premises from the gas and water. Its effectiveness is confi rmed by tests of the CSI Institute.

Root resistant membranes SCUDOGARDEN PP has passed the test according to EN 13948. The certifi cation was released by the Institute of Horticulture, UAS Weihenstephan - Triesdorf.

The fi re-resistant waterproof membranes are tested accoring to Broof (t2) and correspond to the Euroclass of fi re safety of building constructions.

Some materials have obtained BBA (British Board of Agrément) certifi cates - recognised throughout the construction industry as a symbol of quality and reassurance.

DVT (Technical Assessment Document) is a voluntary certifi -cation issued by ITC ( Italian Institute for construction). DVT covers voluntary aspects not covered by CE marking and it is an important document for the Italian market mainly.

GENERAL INFORMATION

TECHNONICOL owns 6 scientifi c and research centers that per-form tests for all the companies of the group . The research ac-tivities of laboratories and research centers aimed at the study and prevention of the causes of aging materials, expanding the operating temperature range of roofi ng materials, increase the range of their application.

The main activities of the laboratories and Research Centers are: Creating of the new roofi ng, waterproofi ng and heat insula-tion materials;

Tests on: heat, microscopic and other analysis, assistance in solving technological problems;

Modernization of current technology; Improvement of methods for the analysis of raw materials and fi nished products, the introduction of rapid methods;

General and methodological support of scheduled tests.

Plant’s laboratories have modern equipment, which you can use to study the physical and mechanical characteristics of materials in a wide temperature range, to accurately determine the struc-

ture and composition of raw materials, to test the durability of materials.

Chromatograph is an important instrument to determine the composition of the bitumen used in the production of roofi ng materials, and, thus ,allows the best selection of the type and amount of modifying additives.

A special equipment is used to study the aging process of mem-branes. With a 2-3 months accelerated artifi cial ageing it can predict the material properties after 10-15 years of operation on the roof.

Currently being developed modern chemical-, radiation-, light-, ozone-, bioresistant materials, mastics and water based emul-sions, membranes for single-layer roofs.

Research and implementation of advanced technologies enable the TECHNONICOL to bring to market several new products each year.

Polymer-bitumen membranes

GENERAL INFORMATION

SLATE The mineral slate chips are used to protectthe polymer-bitumen membrane from UV rays.

Standard colors include natural grey, red, green and white, while other colors are available on request.Mineral slates protect the membrane against aging process and increase the lifeexpectancy of the roof covering.

FINE-GRAINED SAND OR TALCUM

fi ne-grained sand or talcum are used for the installation of the top layer or to improve the adhesion of mastics;

fi ne-grained sand improves coupling of waterproofi ng system’s layers.

FILM

The bottom layer PE or PP fi lm prevents the material from sticking to the roll;

indicator of the proper heating of the material at torch-on application (for the materials with graphic on the bottom side of the roll). It is ready to be welded when graphic is deformed but visible.

VAPOR DIFFUSION STRIPSSurface with longitudinal strips of spe-cial elastomeric compound having some breakes and covered by anti-adhesive polypropylene fi lm. This surface allows to equalize the pressure of the vapor, that accumulates under the roof cladding.

SELF-ADHESIVE SURFACESpecial bituminous adhesive compound, protected with easily removable silicon-ized fi lm. Is used where the standard torch-on application is forbidden (wood-en base, extruded polystyrene).

SPUNBONDPolypropylene (Spunbond) makes ma-terial non-slippery in different weather conditions.

PERFORATED SURFACEIs specifi cally designed for use as the per-forated venting underlay, ensures an even distribution of the points of adhesion.

Roof coverings during their service life undergo the effects of many unfa-vourable factors from the external en-vironment. Changes in the surround-ing temperature cause deformations in both the roofi ng material and the base on which it is installed. The abil-ity to withstand such deformations is the most important characteristic of roofi ng material and this depends on the raw materials used in the manu-facturing process.

Compound is a specially formulated mix-ture of bitumens and polymers. The main difference between compound types is in the kind of polymer used:

SBS provide to the compound excellent low temperature workability, resistance to mechanical stress and ideal elastic performance. Their limitation is that they are unstable at high temperatures and do not withstand UV radiation.

APP provide to the compound excel-lent UV resistance and high tempera-ture stability. Their limitation is that they are less elastic and fl exible at low temperatures.

Advantages of polymers have led to the compounds which combine the best properties of SBS and APP polymers and are heat-resistant, UV stable, elastic and fl exible, even at low temperatures.

POE elastomeric polyolefi nes allow to improve the fl exibility of APP modifi ed bitumen membranes.

Special antiroots additives (Preventol B5) make it resistant to damage caused by roots of plants and ensure reliable waterproofi ng.

Special heat-adhesive bitumen com-pound that adheres to the old damaged waterproofi ng by torch-on application. This compound is used for re-roofi ng.

Reinforcement can consist of: Glass fi bre mat: provides dimensional stability and rot resistance (V).

Polyester: provides good mechanical strength (PET).

Al foil: absolute vapour barrier (Al). Composite polyester: polyester mat with glass threads or net (CP).

GENERAL INFORMATION

1. The surface must be cleaned of dust, debris, grease, leaves and should not have gaps and cracks or other irregularities. Surface must be treated with primer before installation of waterproofi ng or insulating material.

2. During installation, material and support must be heated by torch, on all width of the roll. Additionally the area of the overlapping must be heated. During proper installation material sticks to the support and on the lap should show a bid of bitumen.

3. On multi-layer systems, following layers must be applied fully bonded onto the fi rst layer in a way to obtain longitudinal and trans-versal joints on a staggered position with respect to the fi rst layer.

4. Side overlaps should be ca. 10cm, while head overlaps ca. 15 cm.5. Remove mineral granules at head overlap with a heated trowel to ensure proper overlap adhesion.

2. Spread the adhesive mastic to the support with a special spatula. It is recommended to use a special cold-applied roofi ng mastic. You can also apply the hot-applied mastic, with reduced content of solvent.IMPORTANT! Mastic is always applied to the surface, not on to the membrane.

3. Rolled roofi ng material should be installed on the spread mastic layer, avoiding creases and bubbles.IMPORTANT! Only materials with a coating of fi ne-grained sand are suitable for mastic-application.

4. Unroll the membrane on the mastic homogeneusly spread and press it with a heavy roll to prevent wrinkles and bubbles.5. Press down the material on overlappings until the mastic fl ow out of the joint. Optimally, mastic should be fl owed out from the

overlappings not more than 10 mm and herewith not less than 7 mm.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Rolls should be stored upright in a 1 row height on pallets. Temporary storage of pallets in 2 rows in height is permitted. Protect the rolls from direct UV-rays and moisture. Minimum distance of 1m from source of heat.

Rolls must be transported in an upright position on pallet in1 row. Roll’s protective fi lm should not be damaged during loading and unloading.

Use ropes to fasten the pallet in order to avoid the fi lm damage. Avoid hard falls or impacts during loading and unloading.

Waterproofi ng of shop-ping centers, industrial or any other buildings where it is important to get the quick result. Installation of single-layer membrane takes much less time than double-layer system.

ROOT RESISTANT.

CAP SHEET MEMBRANE

The top layer of roof cladding in “green roof“ systems. In this system the role of ballast per-forms the ground with greenery.

CAP SHEET MEMBRANE

The top layer of a dou-ble-layer roof cladding. Is used for waterproof-ing of the fl at roof of residential, public or in-dustrial buildings.

The self-adhesive membranes SCUDOTENE are innovative products designed for completely safe application. The special bitumen adhesive compound allow a safe installation on those surfaces where torch-on applicaton is dangerous or forbidden.

ADVICE ON USE: Self-adhesive membranes in cold periods tend to harden resulting in decreased adhesion. Laying the self-adhesive material must be with favorable climatic conditions i.e. dry weather and temperatures around 15 °C.At temperatures below 15 °C and high humidity the adhesion of the coat can be compromised and therefore it will be necessary the use of a light fl ame (if permitted by the yard’s requirements) or hot air to restore the characteristics of the product.

SCUDOTENE PLUS P in all versions have a double compound, the upper side is made of distilled bitumen modifi ed with plastomericresins (APP) and the bottom one is made of distilled bitumen modifi ed with elastomeric resins (SBS) added with adhesive compound,which allows the application on those structures where the use of fl ame is dangerous or prohibited.The SCUDOTENE PLUS P range consists of the following products:

The membranes SCUDOTENE PLUS P have the upper fi nish coated with a polyethylene fi lm and a self-adhesive lateral overlap of about 8 cm coated by a silicone fi lm. The lower fi nish is constituted by a silicone fi lm pre-cut into two parts.

SCUDOTENE PLUS P Mineral has the upper surface coated with fl akes of natural slate color and the lower one by a siliconized fi lm to be removed. Side is left for a self-adhesive black band overlaps covered by a silicone fi lm to be removed.

Caution: The silicone fi lm which protects the lower surface must be removed at the time of application.

Longitudinal overlaps – 80-100 mm. End overlaps – 150 mm. Overlaps to be pressed with a heavy roller. To facilitate the adhesion of the membrane on adjacent elements use a hot air welding equipment.

On pitched roofs the sheets must be perpendicular to the gutter line. In all cases use mechanical fastenings with large head nails or anchors with metal washer and cover them with overlaps.The sheets must be turned up about 30-35 cm on verticals and mechanically fi xed.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR USE: The application surface must be smooth, dry, free from dust, loose particles and frost to ensure proper adhesion of the product. You must apply a coat of VERPRIM ADHESIVE (bituminous primer) at the rate of 300-400 g/m2 for the reinforced concrete surfaces before applying self-adhesive membranes.

The rolls should be stored indoors in a dry place repaired in their original packaging and taken to the construction site ready to use. Keep the rolls upright and do not stack the pallets.

PITCHED ROOF - UNDERTILE WITHOUT INSULATION: The application surface of wood must be continuous and made from plywood or OSB panels type that allow, thanks to the low resi-dual moisture content, the cold adhesion of the membrane without the use of primer.

Apply in full adherence over the whole surface the membrane SCUDOTENE PLUS P Mineral, weight 4.0 kg/m2, reinforced with composite polyester fabric, with upper mineral fi nish. Unroll the membrane orthogonally to the eaves, 8cm lateral overlap without slates, 15cm head overlap.

After unrolling and aligning the sheets, remove the silicone fi lm from the bottom surface to obtain adhesion with an even pressure. The membrane must be mechanically fastened under the end overlaps with nails fi xed every 10 cm to 4 cm from the edge of the sheet.

The end overlaps are then bonded with an adhesive mastic.

In the case that the fi nal layer of the cover is constituted by tiles or slates it is always recommended the laying of each with mecha-nical fastening element (hooks, rivets, other specifi c accessories) irrespective of the slope of the roof.

On pitched roofs, the positioning of the sheets must be perpen-dicular to the gutter line. In all cases it is recommended that the mechanical fastening, with large head nails or anchors with metal washer, are covered and sealed with the overlapping of the sheets. The sheets must be turned up about 30-35 cm at the top of the roof and mechanically fi xed.

UNDERTILE MICROVENTILATION:

The roof covering application for discontinuous roofi ng must always take place on a system of supporting elements which ensure a circulation undertile. This is essential for the proper functioning of the cover and for the good health of the roof . This air circulation, not to be confused with the ventilated roof, is called undertile microventilation.

The support element can consist of strips of wood, metal profi les, plastic bars, etc. The key issue is to avoid any kind of random fi x-ing and “uncontrolled” expanded polyurethane or fresh mortar of all kinds. Microventilation enables shingles or tiles to “breathe” and keep dry, increasing the length of the coat and the supporting structures.

Similarly, removing the heat rising from the house, the micro-ventilation reduces the difference between the surface temperature of the under-tile (heated) and the outer top exposed to cold, due to tensions and differentiated expansions that may unduly stress the waterproof covering.

The distance between the fi xing elements depends on the coverage model adopted. In the case of support strips, these will have to be interrupted every 2-3 meters to several centimeters (2/3 cm) by enabling fl ow towards the eaves of any infi l- trated water or condensate. It is appropriate that the interruption of the strips coincides vertically on different lines to facilitate the eventual path of water runoff.

RADON IN HOMES

Radon is the most important cause of lungs cancer after smoking.

When uranium decays, it becomes radium and when ra-dium decays, becomes radon.

Uranium is found in small quantities in all soils and rocks. It rises from soil into the air; outdoors, radon is diluted and risk is minimal. When it stays in enclosed spaces, however, concentration can build up to hundreds of Bq/mc.

Existing energy saving norms for buildings make houses more insulated and airtight. That may limit the exchange between indoor and outdoor air and may increase radon level.

Radon enters homes through cracks in the fl oors or at fl oor-wall junctions or any other gaps. Radon can also be present in well water and can be released into the air in homes when water is used.

Radon levels can be reduced by avoiding the passage of radon from the basement or slab into living rooms, sealing fl oors and walls and improving the ventilation of the house.

The material is used in the construction of new roofs and renovation of old dam-aged roofs to prevent presence of bulges, thanks to the vapor diffusion through the points of compound on its bottom surface.

ADVANTAGES: bumps on the bottom surface of the membrane avoid the accumulation of vapor under the roof cladding.

RE-COVER P DIFO is used in the renovation of old damaged roofs to prevent the formation of bul-ges. Elastomeric strips that cover about the 40% of the bottom surface, are activated by torching. This membrane avoids the accumulation of vapor under the roof cladding. Vapor is directed to roof aerators, installed in the quantity of 1 per 100 m2 (for d=110 mm.), and bulges do not form under the roof cladding. It is reinforced with non woven spunbond polyester fabric stabilized with fi berglass mat.On its upper surface the membrane has a plastomeric (APP) compound.
