What can I expect in the GCE as compared to the DSE?
More maths and science, less language;Broader subjects but not in as much depth;Language focus on IELTS and GCE A-level Chinese;Still have VA, Music, RS, PE, and LS but the focus will be on Maths and Science.
GCE Class 4F, 5F, and 6F- 2018-2021
•Students will still be in the same house•Students will still be in class competitions
•Students will still attend morning assembly•Students will still have mid year and final exams in
Form 4 in the same way, but it will change in Form 5 and Form 6
What About the Difference in Exams?•For English, students will take the IELTS exam rather
than the DSE. Almost 40% of students already take this exam now in Form 5 and Form 6.•For Chinese qualification, students will do GCE
Chinese in Form 5.•Students will take AS (Advanced Subsidiary) exams
after Form 5 for Predicted Grades.•Students will take final exams after Form 6 (A2 or AL)
for university entrance.
How will this affect my applying to university?
• Students apply ‘non-JUPAS’ to HK universities. There are many HK students who already do so.
• It is expected that about 75% of our GCE students will attend HK universities, the rest will study overseas.
• In DSE students must study the four cores and at least two elective subjects (most do 4 cores and 3 electives)
• In GCE IAL students study at least 3 Cores, though all of them are expected to study 4 cores in Form 4 and Form 5.
Why choose UK qualifications?
GCE A levels, IAL, and International GCSEs are recognised in universities all over the world.
Students may choose only the subjects that they enjoy or are good at.
