1. GENERAL INTRODUCTION
Gangway & Gangway Tower is a device foroperators of working at site and crews to passthrough board and off-board safely in theprocess of liquid and gas tankers mooring atlarge modern harbor. It is insteadof traditionalboarding device.
During the development of the oil tankerharbor, the modern dock for heavy oil tankerentering, especially the dock sets up withisolated mound, its surface aren’t continuousand its elevation is higher than normal one.The oil tanker has serious jouncing, floating inhigher frequency and its scope is very bigduring the oil tanker is moored. The problem is hard to be solved easily by the tanker’sown ladder because the distance between oil tanker and the edge of dock. To speed upthe loading and unloading process and to ensure the safety of the loaders and crews, itis natural for the modern large oil tanker to replace own ladder with our Gangway Tower.Just like Loading Arm, Gangway Tower becomes irreplaceable advanced equipmentbeing used more and more harbors.
Although having simple function, GangwayTower needs good technologicalperformance considering its surroundingcircumstance. In order to suit the queasycondition and some unexpected thingsbetween ship and dock, the harbor’shydrology and meteorology and a lot ofdetail information relevant possible berthingships should be analyzed carefully, to decideits suitable working conditions and choosecorrect construction and reliable safeguard.Only alone doing so, we can get theanticipative purpose.
We can custom-made various type Gangway base on the requirement from theclient.
The Gangway & Gangway Tower consists of a standing Tower(column),accommodation ladder and other supplementary constructions. The accommodationladder even has the function of up and down, bending, turning around, and theadjustment of the front ladder.

Mechanical or hydraulic drive system is usually used as drive system for GangwayTower. Many kinds of safe protector can be set according to client’s requirement inorder to ensure the normal work of transmission mechanism. Explosive-proofelectric-device can also be used base on the flash point of the oil.
2. TYPE AND SPECIFICATION
Mark: EGT – EדEGT” is the shorted from Eminent Gangway Tower“E×” is the type of EGT according to the different structure.There are four type classified by main structure as E1, E2, E3 and E4.
According to the dock tonnage (DWT), the Max data of the tide change in many years,height above the sea level of the dock surface and the investment and itsperformance, a suitable Gangway Tower can be chosen. The user has to fill in theparameter form and hand it to the manufacturer to confirm the scope, basic size andloading data of the Gangway Tower.
For example:EGT – E1 consists of a main ladder, a triangle ladder and a frame. It is suitable for3,000-30,000 ton Jetty.EGT – E2 consists of a main ladder, a front ladder, a triangle ladder, a revolving flatroof and a column. It is suitable for 5,000-50,000 ton Jetty
EGT – E3 consists of a main ladder, a front ladder, a triangle ladder, a revolving flatroof, a draught machine and a column. It is suitable for 10,000-80,000 ton Jetty.
EGT – E4 consists of a main ladder, a front ladder, a triangle ladder, a revolving flatroof, a lifting machine and a tower. The revolving flat roof can be moved up or downalong the tower. It is suitable for 20,000-300,000 tonJetty.

3.CODES AND SPECIFICATIONS
All design, fabrication, and installation shall be done in accordance with theequirementsstated in Project Specification from clients, Design Criteria for Marine Facilities, and allcodes and specifications referred to therein.

6. GANGWAY TOWER COMPONENTS
6.1 General Description
The beforehand embedding components of the Gangway Tower and their
shape & size should meet the design requirement for the dock.
The whole structure should have the function of lightening proof. The

Gangway Tower should not have any mechanical interference with other
equipment at the dock.
All the machines of Gangway Tower should be safe and work smoothly, and their
vibration and noise while working should accord with the related requirement,
and cannot influence their normal function.
The manufacturer promise its products have complete function, advanced
technology and meet the need of safeguarding life.
All the equipment should be designed and manufactured accurately, they can
work safely and continuously under all circumstances without any problem such
as excess stress, vibration, temperature ascending, abrasion, eroding and aging.
The manufacturer should do its best to provide with more advanced,
well-rounded and reliable equipment than those described in this book.
The advanced and reliable technology should be adopted to manufacture the
spare parts that should have good geometric form in their surface and suitable
tolerance.
6.2 Support Tower / Column
The gangway tower shall consist of a steel
structure with vertical load bearing guide bars.
The tower shall include stairways, platforms,
handrails, and anti-slip stairs. Safety chain
handrails and mid-rails, with snap hooks, shall be
provided to cover all gaps in handrails when the
gangway is at various positions.
Standard structural steel shapes conforming to the requirements of Project
Specification FABRICATION OF STRUCTURAL STEEL IN THE PEOPLE’S
REPUBLIC OF CHINA shall be used.
The gangway tower can also include an integral and elevated firewater monitor
structure(Optional ), complete with access ladders and platforms for access to the
control cabin and firewater monitor. Firewater piping shall comply with project

specification Normally, firewater piping shall be painted red(if any).
The gangway tower structure can also be
designed for installation of a hydraulic
crane(Optional) with a clear passage width stairs
from the gangway platform to and from the deck
of the ship.
This support structure shall have a mechanical
device to secure the gangway in its stowed
position and shall be capable of safely supporting
and restraining the gangway under the worst
design case environmental conditions. In this
position, the gangway shall be folded to clear inshore of the fender line.
The gangway tower shall be electrically isolated from the jetty loading platform
except that the gangway tower shall be provided with one or more earthing lugs for
connection to the facility's earthing system.
6.3 Gangway
The gangway shall be provided with a steel
turntable platform, connected to the steel
tower at a fixed level, which shall provide a
range of horizontal turning angle. The control
of movement shall be via a hydraulic power
unit.
The assembly shall be designed to allow for
a longitudinal drift of the tanker to a maximum
of ±3.0m (±11.5 ft.). Alarm positions of the
gangway will be interlocked with
those for the loading arms, and will be
signaled by an audible alarm furnished with
the loading arms.

The design shall incorporate two hydraulic cylinders, each one capable of
supporting the entire gangway load. The hydraulic systems shall be powered by
an electric motor. The hydraulic system shall incorporate needle valves so that
leakage cannot result in a rapid pressure drop. Failure of the hydraulic system
shall trigger an audible and visual alarm at the local control panel and also in the
Marine Terminal Building.
A hand pump shall be provided so that the gangway may be lifted clear of the
tanker in case of hydraulic motor failure.
The locking devices for the gangway in its stored position shall be manually
operated and easily visible to the operator.
A ladder with Aluminium step, consisting of a fixed part and foldable part, shall
also be provided. The end of the telescopic part shall be equipped with a bulwark
ladder for easy access to the tanker’s deck.
Ensure that the gangway design has proper access for all maintenance and
adequate clearance (including all slewing and luffing positions) from any other
structure or equipment on the jetty loading platform deck.
Hydraulic System is consist of normal working system and standby urgency
Failure of the hydraulic system shall trigger an audible and visual alarm at the
local control panel and also in the Marine Terminal Building.
6.4 Electrical and Instrumentation
The system is consist of Control cabinet, PLC,
Junction box, Alarm system, wireless Remote Control,
Tower lighting and Cable etc.
All equipment and material shall be suitable for
operation in the climatic conditions specified on the
Project Specification for Project Design Basis
Enclosures shall be IEC 60079 AISI 316 stainless steel
and shall be corrosion resistant to a salt-bearing, marine atmosphere.

Supply all power materials (cable, tray, supports, etc.) up to a junction box,
required to ensure a complete and operable system.
The junction box with a cable gland shall be installed
at the bottom of the gangway tower. Power to the
junction box will be by others.
Supply all required lighting, including switches,
fixtures, and lamps, required to ensure a complete
and operable system. The lighting circuit shall be
connected to a junction box located at the bottom of
the Gangway or Fire Monitor Tower(if any). Power to
the junction box is not included in the scope of supply
for the gangway or fire monitor tower.
All electric/electronic equipment, instrumentation, and devices shall be
tropicalized and shall be suitable for the hazardous
All instrumentation systems shall be non-incendive.
Supply all power materials (cable, tray, supports, etc.) up to a junction box,
required to ensure
a complete and operable system. The junction box with a cable gland shall be
installed at the bottom of the gangway tower. Junction boxes shall be rated for
IEC applications and the enclosure type shall be IP-55 (minimum). Power to the
junction box will be by others.
Supply all required lighting, including switches, fixtures, and lamps, required to
ensure acomplete and operable system. The lighting circuit shall be connected to
a junction box located at the bottom of the gangway tower. Power to the junction
box is not included in the scope of supply for the gangway tower.
PLC Electric control System: The most important part for PLC Electric control
System is type of S7-224 programmable Controller made in Simenzi located
German. The data display is type TD400C text display made in Simenzi company

7. EMERGENCY RELEASE CONTROL SYSTEM FOR THE GANGWAY
7.1 Design and incorporate an emergency release control system (ERCS) for the
gangway in order to prevent damage of the bulwark ladder (at the ship), or of the
complete gangway itself, when the tanker/boat on which the gangway is deployed,
leaves the jetty on a very short notice due to an emergency situation or when the
tanker/boat moves (or drifts) approximately ±3.0 m (±11.5 ft.) away from its
moorings. The allowable Fore/Aft surge movement is approximately +4.5 m. The
ERCS signal for the gangway shall be activated by the emergency release signals
from the product loading arms. The emergency situation for the gangway shall be
indicated on the gangway's control panel and on the control console in the Marine
Terminal Building by means of an emergency signal.
7.2 The ERCS shall only be activated when the gangway’s control box receives the
emergency signal from the product loading arms, when the deck ladder is positioned
on the tanker, and when the hydraulic system is in the automatic (free-wheel) position.
When the ERCS has been activated, the following actions shall be initiated:
Slewing movement of the gangway shall be blocked.
Sliding movement of the gangway shall remain
unaffected.
Discharge of lifting cylinders shall be blocked.
Audible and visual alarm shall be activated.
An electric motor, fed from the essential power bus
(out of our supply) that has diesel generator
backup, shall drive the hydraulic pump as long as is required to lift the gangway
high enough from the ship's deck to clear the railing.
Delayed retraction after alarms for sufficient time to allow escape of personnel
from Gangway towers.
And a manual activation of the ERCS shall also be provided.

9. WARRANTY OF GANGWAY TOWERS
All equipment, materials and services provided shall be new and of the most
suitable grade of their respective kinds for the intended uses. Warranties shall
apply for 24 months from first going into commercial service. Final acceptance
shall terminate such warranties except with regard to latent defects, fraud, or such
gross mistakes as the amount to fraud. All corrective actions taken as a result of
defects in design, equipment or materials shall be subject to the same warranties
for a period of eighteen (18) months following acceptance of the corrected work.
Defected Correction Period for such corrective work shall be extended for an
additional eighteen (18) months from the date of completion of such Corrective
Work
