Subsquently, they've played every year.• Syracuse won that original matchup – the 1996 Gator Bowl – by the score of 41-0. Future Pro Football Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison hauled in seven recep ons for 173 yards and Donovan McNabb threw for 309 yards in the win. Both fi gures s ll stand as Syracuse series highs versus the Tigers.• The Tigers were Syracuse's fi rst ACC opponent a er the Orange joined the ACC. Clemson spoiled Syracuse's debut in its new league, winning 49-14 in the Carrier Dome on Oct. 5, 2013.• Last season, Syracuse snapped its four-game series losing streak in a memorable 27-24 home win against the second-ranked Tigers.

LAST TIME VS. CLEMSON• The Orange toppled No. 2 Clemson 27-24 at the Carrier Dome on Oct. 13, 2017, marking the fi rst me Syracuse had ever beaten the second-ranked team in the AP Poll. The Tigers were the highest-ranked Orange vic m since Syracuse's historic upset of No. 1 Nebraska in 1984.• QB Eric Dungey threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 61 yards, including a cri cal 8-yard run on third-and-long with less that two minutes to play that moved the chains and sealed the victory.• WRs Steve Ishmael and Ervin Philips each caught TD passes and fi nished with 94 and 73 receiving yards, respec vely.• Defensively, LB Parris Benne , DL Alton Robinson, LB Zaire Franklin and DL Chris Slayton each had a sack to lead a defensive unit that held the Tigers to 317 toal yards.

A WIN WOULD … • Mark Syracuse's fourth 5-0 start to a season since 1959 and the fi rst since the unbeaten 1987 season.• Give Syracuse a 2-0 start in ACC play for the fi rst me. It'd also be the fi rst me since 2001 and the ninth me since the Orange gave up their status as an independant in 1991 and joined the BIG EAST that they've

started 2-0 in conference play.• Be the team's second straight win over the Tigers.• Represent Syracuse's fi rst road win against a team ranked in the AP top fi ve since it knocked off No. 5 Virginia Tech at Lane Stadium 22-14 in 2001.• Make Syracuse the fi rst unranked team since Washington in 1980 and 1981 to beat the same team in consecu ve years when that team was ranked in the top three of the AP poll. The Huskies topped No. 2 USC 20-10 in 1980 and defeated the third-ranked Trojans the next year, 13-3.• Be Dino Babers' 50th career victory. Heading into Saturday's contest, Babers owns a 49-32 overall record and an 12-16 mark at the helm of the Syracuse football program.• Give Syracuse its 725th all- me victory (includes 11 wins from 2004-06 that were vacated by the NCAA). GAME NOTES: OFFENSE

ORANGE IS THE NEW FAST• The Orange have run more than 75 plays in each of their fi rst four contests, including three games with 80+. The Orange's 334 plays (83.5 avg.) are ed for the sixth-most in the FBS, however, two of the six teams ed or ahead of Syracuse in that department have played an addi onal game.• Syracuse is currently averaging a play every 21.1 seconds of possession me.• Twenty-six of Syracuse's 32 scoring drives (81.3 pct.) this season have been under three minutes in dura on. In fact, 18 of those drives (56.3 pct.) have been less than two minutes.• Syracuse is ed for eighth na onally with fi ve scoring drives under one minute. Alabama leads the FBS ranks with 10. This week's opponent, Clemson, also has fi ve drives of less than a minute that have resulted in points.

HALF A HUNDRED - THREE TIMES!• In Year 3 of the Dino Babers era, the Syracuse off ense is hi ng its stride, as the Orange opened 2018 with three 50+ point performances in their fi rst four games. Syracuse ranks 10th in the na on and fi rst in the ACC in scoring at 49.5 points per game.• This season marks the fi rst campaign 1998 (QB Donovan McNabb's senior year) that Syracuse reached the half-century mark in three games in the same season.• In the Wagner victory on Sept. 15, Syracuse ed the program record for points in a half a er jumping out to a 45-7 lead at the break. The Orange had twice previously scored 45 points in a half, doing so in the fi rst half versus Miami (Fla.) in 1998 and Colgate in 1959.• The Orange's 62 points versus Wagner were Syracuse's most under Babers, bes ng the previous high of 61 at Pi sburgh (2016), and the most Orange points since a 63-17 win versus Rhode Island in 2002.

DUNGEY THE RUNNER• In 2017, QB Eric Dungey became the fi rst signal-caller since Don McPherson in 1986 to lead the Orange in rushing. Dungey ran for 595 yards on 143 carries (4.2 avg.) and nine touchdowns a season ago.• While scampering for 61 yards on the ground in the upset of No. 2 Clemson last season, Dungey became the sixth Syracuse quarterback to surpass 1,000 yards rushing.• Against UConn on Sept. 22, Dungey passed Donovan McNabb for second in rushing yards by a quarterback at Syracuse. Dungey now has 1,593 yards on the ground, trailing only Bill Hurley (2,551).• Hurley, McNabb (1,561), McPherson (1,251), Walley Mahle (1,150) and Dave Warner (1,139) are the other fi ve quarterbacks in the Orange annals who have reached the 1,000-yard rushing plateau.• Dungey is Syracuse's leading rusher again so far in 2018 with 354 yards on 51 a empts (6.9 avg.). He is sixth in the ACC in rushing at 88.5 yards per contest and he ranks 14th na onally in yards per carry.

DUNGEY FINDS THE END ZONE• QB Eric Dungey has had no problem fi nding the end zone in his career, whether it be on the ground or through the air. He's responsible for 13 TDs this season (9 passing, 4 rushing) and leads the ACC with 78 points responsible for.• Dungey already holds the Orange record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (24), a mark he set with a 3-yard TD run at Florida State in 2017.• Against UConn on Sept. 22, he passed Marvin Graves for third in program history with 49 passing touchdowns. Donovan McNabb (77) and Ryan Nassib (70) are the only two ahead of him.• Dungey has been responsible for 73 total touchdowns (running and passing) in his four seasons. McNabb holds the program record at 96.• Dungey passed Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston (72) on the ACC touchdown responsibility ledger against UConn and now sits 16th overall in conference history.

RUSHING ATTACK• Syracuse has been dominant on the ground, scoring 12 rushing touchdowns and totaling 1,112 rushing yards (278.0 avg.) in its fi rst four games. • By comparison, the the Orange averaged 161.5 yards on the ground in 2017, good for increase of 116.5 yards per contest this season.• RB Dontae Strickland has fi ve rushing TDs, a mark that es for the ACC lead and ranks 12th na onally.• Against UConn, Syracuse racked up 341 yards on the ground, the most under head coach Dino Babers and the highest team running total since the Orange gained 370 in 2014 versus Maryland.

DUAL THREAT• QB Eric Dungey is one of two ac ve FBS quarterbacks with more than 7,000 career passing yards and 1,000 career rushing yards. In fact, only three other quarterbacks na onally have 5,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards.• Dungey's 294.3 career yards of total off ense per game is ed for third among ac ve players. West Virginia's Will Grier has the most at 302.1 yards per game, while UCF's Mckenzie Milton is second (301.3). Middle Tennessee's Brent Stocks ll (294.3) is ed with Dungey.

LEAVING HIS MARK• QB Eric Dungey is des ned to leave Syracuse as one of the most sta s cally accomplished players in program history. He currently holds or shares 14 team records (see right).• In addi on to those marks, he's closing in on more. His 618 career comple ons are second all- me at Syracuse, trailing only Ryan Nassib (791), and his 7,235 career passing yards are fourth in the Orange record book behind Donovan McNabb (8,389), Marvin Graves (8,466) and Nassib (9,190).• Dungey's 61.9 career comple on percentage places him second in that category, behind Greg Paulus (.677) who played just one season for the Orange in 2009.• With his two TD passes against UConn, Dungey moved into third at SU with 49 career touchdown throws. Nassib (70) and McNabb (77) are ahead of him.

ORANGE AMONG MOST EXPERIENCED O-LINES• Syracuse's off ensive linemen boast 120 career starts, not including redshirt senior Koda Mar n's start at ght end when he was a sophomore at Texas A&M. That number ranks third in the ACC and ed for eighth na onally. Wisconsin (171) leads the FBS, while Wake Forest (151) tops the conference.• Redshirt junior G Evan Adams and senior OT Cody Conway own the most with 24 starts. Conway has started 21 games in a row, while Adams' streak of 22 straight fi rst-string appearances was snapped Sept. 8 against Wagner.• In 2017, Syracuse started the same front fi ve in all 12 games. The fi rst unit of Adams, Conway C Airon Servais, G Sam Heckel and OT Jamar McGloster played together for all but 20 snaps over the course of the season. • McGloster is the lone departure, while Syracuse as brought back G Aaron Roberts, who missed all of last year due to an off season knee injury. • Overall, the 2018 Syracuse squad has six players (Conway, Roberts, Servais, Adams, Heckel and Mar n) with at least a season's worth of the starts in the ACC or SEC. That level of experience is nearly unprecedented at Syracuse. The Orange have not returned fi ve players with at least one year of star ng experience since 1989, when Syracuse retained Mike Bernard, Gary McCummings, John Flannery, Blake Bednarz and Turnell Simms from a 1988 squad that went 10-2 and fi nished No. 13 in the AP poll.• The front fi ve have proved their worth this season, paving the way for an off ense that ranks 10th in scoring (49.5), ninth in rushing (278.0), 13th in total off ense (523.3) and 14th in fi rst downs (103).

STRICKLAND THE PASS-CATCHER• RB Dontae Strickland has been an excep onal weapon in the passing game throughout his career.• Strickland has 53 career recep ons, the most of any ac ve ACC running back by a wide margin.• The Dayton, N.J. na ve needs six more recep ons to match Damien Rhodes (59) and Walter Reyes (59) for fi h on the school record list for most catches by a running back. • Antwon Bailey owns the Syracuse record for recep ons by a running back with 92 from 2008-11.

THREE WITH MORE THAN 1,000• Junior RB Moe Neal became the 45th player in Syracuse history to reach 1,000 career rushing yards with his 71-yard eff ort against Wagner on Sept. 8. He currently has 1,191 rushing yards, joining teammates QB Eric Dungey (1,593) and RB Dontae Strickland (1,299) in crossing the 1,000-yard threshhold for their careers. • Syracuse is one of four FBS schools with three ac ve 1,000-yard rushers on their roster. Ball State (James Gilbert, Caleb Huntley and Riley Neal), Georgia Tech (TaQuon Marshall, KirVonte Benson and Clinton Lynch) and SMU (Vraeden West, Xavier Jones and Ke'Mon Freeman) are the others.

CUSTIS CATCHES TOUCHDOWNS• Redshirt senior WR Jamal Cus s has three touchdown recep ons through the fi rst four games, one more than he had in 27 career games coming into 2018.• His three TD grabs are ed for third in the ACC. Virginia's Olamide Zaccheaus (4) and Miami's Lawrence Cager (4) lead the conference.

DUNGEY RUNS TO RECORD• QB Eric Dungey rushed for 200 yards on 15 carries (13.3 avg.), a school-record for a Syracuse quarterback, on Aug. 31 at Western Michigan. It was the fourth 200-yard rushing game for a quarterback in ACC history.• Dungey's rushing total was 44 yards more than the previous Orange record (156 - Terrel Hunt vs. Maryland, 2014 and Bill Hurley vs. Northwestern, 1979).• Dungey's performance stands as the second-best rushing total for an FBS quarterback this season behind Navy's Malcolm Perry who had 223 yards on Sept. 15 versus Lehigh. It's also the top single-game rushing fi gure in the ACC for 2018.

RECEIVER'S PARADISE• Since head coach Dino Babers arrived on campus for the 2016 season, the Syracuse receiving corps has made its mark in the na onal rankings and shredded the school and conference record books.• The Orange have had two players fi nish in the top eight na onally in recep ons per game in each of the past two seasons. In 2016, Amba E a-Tawo was seventh (7.8) and Ervin Philips was eighth (7.2). Last season, Steve Ishmael ranked second (8.8) and Philips was fi h (7.4).• Under Babers, SU receivers have posted fi ve of the top six highest single-game recep on totals in the 129-year history of the program, including Philips smashing the ACC record with 17 catches at NC State in 2017.• E a-Tawo and Ishmael each were both unanimous All-ACC First Team selec ons and earned All-America honors from mul ple selectors.

NOTED IMPROVEMENT• In Year 3 of Brian Ward's system, the Orange defense has made strides in several key sta s cal categories (see right).• Syracuse saw major growth during the fi rst nine games of 2017 when the Orange were one of the most improved units in the country, and Ward received a nomina on for the Broyles Award as college football's top assistant coach. However, three subpar performances over the fi nal three games skewed the 2017 sta s cs.• In 2018, Ward is experiencing another spike in produc on, par culary in the takeaway department where the Orange are already near their 2017 total (12). The Orange are also averaging two more sacks per game in 2018 and have 13 on the season. Syracuse logged 16 sacks all of last year.

THIRD-DOWN DEFENSE• Syracuse's second-ranked, third-down defense thus far isn't a fl uke.• The Orange fi nished last season ranked 13th na onally in the category, and their strong 2018 start moved them to No. 2 over the last two seasons in all of FBS football.• In 2018, Syracuse has limited Western Michigan to 2-of-10 (.200) on third down, Wagner to 5-of-18 (.278), Florida State to 1-of-14 (.071), and UConn to 3-of-14 (.214).• Against the Florida State, Syracuse did not allow a third-down conversion un l the fourth quarter and forced 10 FSU punts on 14 possessions.

TAKETH AWAY• A er going the fi nal eight games of 2017 without an intercep on, Syracuse has already eclipsed their en re season total from a year ago (4) with seven intercep ons thus far.• Syracuse ranks seventh na onally and is ed with Boston College for the ACC lead.• DB Andre Cisco (4), CB Christopher Fredrick (1), LB Kielan Whitner (1) and DL/LB Tyrell Richards (1) all have picks this season.• Syracuse is +7 in turnover margin on the year and have turned those opponent miscues into 37 points.• In 2017, Syracuse only had one game where it won the turnover ba le (Middle Tennessee), tying four other mes, and losing seven. Syracuse has already won the turnover ba le in all four games this season.
