First Year Experience .............x2782A set of classes that are “packaged” together for you, in which you will become part of a learning community as you will be given the opportunities to form study groups. You will be taking a full program of courses including English, math, and study skills.

Leaders INvolved in Creating Change (LINC- foster youth) ...............x2371This is a support program designed to help link foster youth with support services on and off campus to ensure a successful transition from foster care to independent living.

Project HOPE ...........................x7847Project HOPE is dedicated to increasing the number of Latinos and other underrepresented groups entering, matriculating, and completing health careers. This program is designed to help and guide students through the rigorous academic and social work involved with health professions.

Puente Program .....................x2123This is an academic, counseling, and mentoring program that supports educationally under-represented students to increase their enrollment in four-year colleges and universities, earn college degrees, and return to the community as mentors and leaders.

Scholars’ Honors Program ....... x2728The Scholars’ Honors Program (SHP) provides transfer-bound students with the opportunity to enrich themselves through participation in unique, challenging, and interactive educational experiences. SHP students receive early

registration privileges at Cerritos College and priority admissions consideration with our transfer partners (e.g. UCLA, UC Irvine, LMU, etc.).

Teacher TRAC ..........................x2212 he Teacher TRAC program offers many services, programs, and pathways for students interested in teaching K-12. For students interested in becoming an elementary school teacher, Teacher TRAC’s flagship program is a partnership with California State University Long Beach. As a student in the integrated, standards based Teacher TRAC/CSULB program, you can earn your bachelor’s degree, multiple subject teaching credential and complete your student teaching in four years.Transfer Center ......................x2154 Located in the Admin. Bldg. Quad West, the Center offers an array of services including college rep visits, university fairs, workshops, university tours, presentations, Walk-in Wednesdays (counseling), computer lab for transfer research, and information on our university partnerships.

UMOJA Community ................x2125 The UMOJA Community is committed to fostering the educational experience of all students, specifically designed with the African American and first-generation college students in mind. UMOJA offers academic support services, academic, and career counseling. Participants will have access to courses with emphasis tailored to the African American perspectives.

Co-Curricular ActivitiesAthletics ..................................x2864Cerritos College is a member of the South Coast Conference. Cerritos men’s teams are represented in: baseball, basketball, cross country, football (SCFA), soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field, water polo and wrestling (SCWA). Cerritos women’s teams are represented in: basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and water polo.

Student Activities ..................x2458Student Activities and the Associated Students of Cerritos College (ASCC) foster vibrant student life programs and events by engaging student participation. There are approximately 60 clubs on campus that include the Psi Beta (Psychology), UMOJA (first-generation student and African American empowerment), and Triathlon Club.

Certificates, Degrees, and Transfer

Certificate of AchievementA certificate of achievement is granted when coursework is completed in an area of specialization—general education courses are not required. This certificate provides you with hands-on training in areas such as dental assisting, child development, welding, automotive mechanical repair, athletic trainer aide, programmer, culinary arts, and cosmetology.

Associate in Arts Degree (AA)This degree is granted upon completion of two parts, specialized education (department major) and general education coursework. You must

complete 60 units of degree applicable work. Earning an AA Degree can be completed in two years, but varies depending on part- or full-time status and course placement.

Transfer to a UniversityTransferring includes the completion of courses that satisfy the university’s lower division general education and major requirements to obtain your bachelor’s degree. You are advised to complete 60 transferable units in order to be eligible for full junior status at the transfer institution.

Assessment Center ................ x2599 Assessment for placement is administered in the Assessment Center located in the MultiPurpose Bldg., second floor, room 206. Assessment results are used for advisement in selecting classes. The Self-Report Tool for reading, math, English writing, and ESL placement are available.

Bookstore .............................. x2450Follett Bookstore carries required materials, new, used, and rental textbooks, reference materials, class supplies, snacks, and Cerritos College merchandise.

They help you stay abreast of degree and transfer requirements. Additionally, counselors in the Career Services office can assist you with assessing your personality, interests, skills, and values to help you make decisions about majors and careers.

EOPS ........................................ x2398 Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) assists low-income and educationally disadvantaged students in college. The program offers academic, personal, and career counseling, book grants, tutoring, early Achievement in Mathematics (AIM) program, school supplies, transfer assistance, and university tours.
