Thank you for supporting Centrepoint’s Emergency Coronavirus AppealThe Coronavirus is undoubtedly Centrepoint’s biggest challenge to date. We must provide more support to homeless young people than ever, as we now face a loss of over £2 Million in income.

Help us to raise vital funds and keep young people safe - and stave off your boredom of staying at home at the same time!

We want to help you stay connected with friends, family and colleagues, whilst giving you the opportunity to help homeless young people. All proceeds from our Emergency Coronavirus Appeal will go towards keeping our vital services open across the country.

CentrepointLast year, Centrepoint supported over 15,000 16-25 year olds alongside its partners; providing accommodation, mental and physical health care, and education, training and employability support to some of the most vulnerable young people in our communities.

As the current Coronavirus crisis develops, we already know that the demand on our services will rise. More young people than ever will need our help and those already in our services will need even more specialist support.

After 50 years of supporting homeless young people, at Centrepoint we know that we have the right people and expertise to support young people through this crisis, but now more than ever we are reliant on the generosity of our incredible supporters to keep our vital services open.

Keep active and take on a step or exercise challenge Set up a group with your friends, family or colleagues on the Stridekick or Strava app and use your phone or watch to measure your progress.

Design the challenge to suit you – choose when you do it, who is involved and the end goal. It could be a certain number of steps, miles cycled, or most activity overall in a set time-period. It’s up to you!

Set yourself a fundraising target, share your fundraising page and ask people you know to sponsor you.

Donate your commuteDo you usually spend money on public transport or petrol to travel to work or university etc?

Now you’re working from home, why not donate the amount you would spend a week to Centrepoint instead? #donateyourcommute

Host a virtual pub quizAnother activity you may be missing is your local pub quiz. Why not set up a virtual team quiz?

Take the stress out of organising and download our ready-made pub quiz here.

Charge a donation to enter, we recommend £5 per person.

Instead of inviting friends and family to your celebration, invite them to donate to Centrepoint!

To make it even easier, set up a Facebook birthday fundraiser or a JustGiving fundraising page to collect their donations all in one place.

Personal Challenge Set yourself a personal challenge – have you been putting off giving something up? Do you want to get sponsored to learn something new such as a craft or new recipes?

Whatever the challenge, no matter how big or small, ask your friends to sponsor you and support homeless young people.

Donate As You Earn!If you don’t have time for fundraising activities or they aren’t your thing, why not consider Payroll Giving? Payroll Giving is a simple, tax efficient way to make regular donations to Centrepoint straight from your pay – helping us to keep more young people safe at this difficult time.

The best part is, with payroll giving your donations go even further. Your gift is worth up to 40% more depending on your tax rate. For example, if you pledge £10 per month and you are a 20% taxpayer the donation only costs you £8 – the taxman pays the rest – costing you less to give more!

A regular donation, no matter how big or small, will make a huge difference; helping us to keep our services open and young people safe.

Albert – Housing Manager, London‘There is a lot of panic and fear right now among both staff and young people. We are trying to manage stress and anxiety levels and we are working with Centrepoint’s mental health advisors to develop strategies.

‘Key work sessions with young people are more important than ever due to the pause on education, employment and training opportunities. The young people have gone from accessing those to having none of those happening in the space of a couple of weeks and for many, that keeps them going and provides them with focus.

‘We are just taking each day as it comes and doing our very best to support the young people in our services.

‘The young people we work with have very little money and usually buy food day by day, so trying to get them to change that mind-set and think ahead is difficult especially when they can’t afford a big shop. We are working hard to support them with supplies where possible.’

Become a Payroll GiverSetting up Payroll Giving is quick and easy – just visit centrepoint.org.uk/payrollgiving to complete your pledge form. We’ll do the rest! If you have any questions about Payroll Giving, please contact [email protected]

Please give what you can.

We understand that Payroll Giving may not be an option for everyone at this time.

Michelle Young Parents Housing Service, Sunderland‘In our service there are eight flats with young people and their children. It has been and will continue to be a worrying and scary time for them all.

‘One worry for the young people is the shortage of essential items in the shops. Baby formula, nappies, wipes – these are all essential for a baby and the stress and added anxieties to the young people are evident.

‘Another challenge is the lack of visitors due to the recent closure to non-essential visitors. Some of the young people rely on the emotional support from family and friends so this has hit hard.

‘We are doing everything to support them and trying to reassure and assist them in finding the supplies they need. I am keeping a positive frame of mind, talking to our young people often, encouraging them to take part in activities and getting outside in the garden.

‘We have found the young people to be very generous in sharing what supplies they have. They have come together and been there for each other. We know we will get through this, when it ends will be an even stronger team.’
