Our Stayers team, who also improved their ranking by 6 posions on the 2018 result, arrived to support our U14s, who were so excited and appreciave. Our U13s have been involved in a number of tournaments and were watched by a member of the First Team, who is busy with her own sport as well as wring her Grade 11 exams. All of this points to a wonderful spirit in the sporng space! As a naon, we have been focused on the Rugby World Cup in Japan. The request, emanang from the girls themselves, to wear supporters’ gear today, shows that the support that exists crosses all ages. I cannot help but think back fondly to 1995 when President Mandela’s support of the team and the role they played in Naon building, touched our naon deeply. Now, 24 years later (and including of course, the victory in 2007), we once again unite to support our team who go into the game as underdogs carrying the weight of a naon’s expectaons on their shoulders. I end with Bishop Tutu’s message to the Sringboks; one which speaks into the role of events such as the Rugby World Cup and the impact of represenng one’s country in the finals. Captain of the naon, Siya Kolisi, ou Rassie, Chessie, en al die manne: Siyabulela! Ngiyabonga! Thank you! Your dignity, diversity and courage are infecous. You have restored South African rugby’s pride, and made us all feel good about our- selves. A World Cup Final is a highly pressured environment, but if you feel weightless when you run onto that Yokohama field on Saturday it will be because you are being carried by the love, respect and prayers of 56 million of us at home. Matric exams are underway and to this point, the girls have com-mented favourably on the papers. This is in no small measure due to the input of their teachers. The academic staff have not only pre-pared the girls well, but they remain available throughout the exam period to offer support and one-on-one lessons. The girls are focused on achieving the goals they have set themselves and I have no doubt that the combination augurs well. Results will be released at school on 7 January 2020.

The Water Polo teams in the Senior Primary and the High School have acquitted themselves well at recent tournaments. Their results are reflected in The Chatter. Whilst the girls have played with every intention of winning, and so they should, they have been great ambassadors for College too. Our U14 team, who lost to St. Dominic’s in the finals, congratulated the winning team. Our Stayers team, who also improved their ranking by 6 positions on the 2018 result, arrived to support our U14s, who were so excited and appreciative. Our U13s have been involved in a number of tournaments and were watched by a member of the First Team, who is busy with her own sport as well as writing her Grade 11 exams. All of this points to a wonderful spirit in the sporting space!

As a nation, we have been focused on the Rugby World Cup in Japan. Stories of young men, such as captain Kolisi, abound, and the passion, which unites the team and the coaching staff, is evident. The request, emanating from the girls themselves, to wear supporters’ gear today, shows that the support that exists crosses all ages.

We have heard the messages of support from schools attended by

Springboks, as well as a message from President Ramaphosa. Choirs, including the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir and the Ndlovu Choir, have added their voices. Schools have worn supporters’ gear and recorded good luck messages. I cannot help but think back fondly to 1995 when President Mandela’s support of the team and the role they played in Nation building, touched our nation deeply.

Now, 24 years later (and including of course, the victory in 2007), we once again unite to support our team who go into the game as underdogs carrying the weight of a nation’s expectations on their shoulders.

I end with Bishop Tutu’s message to the Sringboks; one which speaks into the role of events such as the Rugby World Cup and the impact of representing one’s country in the finals.Captain of the nation, Siya Kolisi, ou Rassie, Chessie, en al die manne: Siyabulela! My journey started at Durban Girls’ College in January 2019, and it has been a very inter-esting year. Coming from The Sharks Academy after 10 years, with a sports background, College was - at first - very challenging to me. I have adapted well and today I feel like part of the College family. I knew from day one this is where I was meant to be.

I am very passionate about my job as the front face of College. Being a mother makes it more special as I can relate to the young ladies I encounter, daily. I love the interaction with every girl that walks through the door. The respect and love they have for each other is amazing to see all the time.

I am a very proud Christian wife and mother of three kids – a son and two daughters. My life would not be complete without my family.

It is a blessing to be part of Durban Girls’ College.

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance. Ephesians 1:18

Recently, I came across a song called ‘The Great Unfolding’ by Steven Curtis Chapman. It’s about the different, and sometimes surprising or disappointing, directions life takes. But far from being discouraging it speaks about the great unfolding plan that God has put in motion for each of us and for the world. His actions, past and present, which work alongside our own decisions, can make for a glorious eternity. He invites us to choose to be part of a certain future no matter how uncertain the present may feel. For all of us, and es-pecially those who are preparing to begin a new season - for example the Grade 12s, some staff, girls who will start at DGC in the new year - this is incredibly reassuring. Give the song a listen sometime and let the truths contained in it warm your heart.

God's plan from the start / For this world and your heart / Has been to show His glory and His grace / Forever revealing the depth and the beauty of / His unfailing love / And the story has only begun...
