• First priority: health
• Treatment of municipal and industrial effluents
• Focus on effluent quality (BOD, SS, N, P)
• Primary treatment, secondary treatment, tertiary treatment

Anaerobic Process
COD CH4 + CO2 + BIOMASS
Anaerobic methanogenic biomass
• Low growth rate
• Production of reusable methane (green energy)
• Low sludge production (& biomass is asset rather than waste)
• Granular biomass

• Reduce carbon footprint
(global warming, depletion fossil fuels)
• Reduce water footprint (water scarcity)
• Reclaim resources

Full scale UASB reactor: SK Roermond Papier Installed in 1983
First granular sludge application
12
BIOPAQ® IC (Internal Circulation)
1. Industrial wastewater enters
reactor and is mixed with
granular anaerobic biomass
2. Organic components converted
into methane (biogas)
3. Biogas collected in lower phase
separator, generating as gaslift
4. Water is forced upwards in riser
5. Gas leaves reactor in liquid/gas
separator
6. Water returns through downer
into distribution system
7. Effluent is polished in second,
upper compartment
8. Biogas from second compartment
is collected
9. Effluent exits the reactor
13
More than 1,800 reference plants in more than 60 countries in the following industries:
• Pulp and Paper
• Beer and Beverages
• Food
• Distilleries
• Chemical industry
• Metal and Mining
• Oil and Gas
• Municipalities
