From Our Point of View
Jehovahs Witnesses is a Christian religious group founded in 1872 in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, with congregations in nearly all countries. The members of the group believe in
the second coming of Christ and regard themselves as practitioners of primitive Christianity
where they consider each Witness as a minister. They emphasize Bible study and absolute
obedience to biblical precepts. Their teachings are preached from door to door and give out
pamphlets to passers-by on the streets. They only acknowledge their allegiance solely to the
kingdom of Jesus Christ and refuse to signify allegiance to the government which often puts
them, sometimes, in conflict with the government of their countries. It may be weird to us,
Roman Catholics or any other religion, that they dont celebrate festivals, birthdays and even
Christmas but they still stay true to what they believe in even though they have peers that has
different views compared to them.
Jehovahs Witnesses teach that Christ began his invisible reign as king in 1914 and
believe that soon, the forces of good, led by Christ, will defeat the forces of evil, led by Satan, at
the battle of Armageddon. Thereafter, Christ will rule the Earth for a thousand years and during
this time, the dead will rise again and all people will have a second opportunity to achieve
salvation. At the end of a thousand years Satan will return to the Earth, and he and those who
support him will finally be destroyed. Perfect humankind will then enjoy eternal life on Earth.
With this teachings, it is evident that they also believe in The Second Coming but they still have
numerous different points and diverse understanding of the Bible.
Having researched the above information and read the article Why do Jehovahs
Witnesses not use images in their worship? we thought they really do stick to The Bible.

Although they are Christians just like us, their way of worship and their beliefs differ greatly
from us Roman Catholics.
While we fill our churches with statues and images of God, his saints and angels, the
Witnesses eliminate all the images and idols from their way of worship in their Kingdom Halls.
We try to represent every character in the Bible with pictures and statues that stand firm in many
parish Church, not only here in the Philippines but in other countries with Roman Catholics. We
havent realized until now that what our churchpractices are prohibited as in Exodus 20:4-5.
We cant help but see the difference between what we believe in, and what they believe
in. Its like the Roman Catholic translated/interpreted some parts of the Bible quite differently
from the Witnesses. Weve also read an article regarding idolatries and symbols, on true
Christians not using the cross in their worships. I guess this is only a matter of interpretation.
They would not want the cross as a worship symbol simply because they equate it with the death
of Christ and we want the cross present with Christ crucified to remind us of His sacrifice for the
humankind. Again, its a matter of interpretation. We based it on the meaning behind it and they
based it on something else.
Jehovahs, as we see it, live and breathe the Bible. We dont mean literally, but they live
their lives following only the teachings of the Bible, even ignoring their respective governments
in the process. They go around spreading the word of God and deliberately asks to live in His
way in the most honest and truthful way that we can. This is not something to be ignored or even
argued upon. Its something to be accepted and respected. Doing otherwise may lead to conflicts
and misunderstandings that will result in a chaotic world and our God wouldnt want that to
happen.

Idolatry worship is prohibited in their religious group and its something weve
accustomed to in our religious group. But just as long as we stand true to our Faith in Him, no
matter what our beliefs and ways of worship are, we will be saved. We are still Christians
anyway, and we solely believe in the kingdom of God.
