FRIDAY FLYER SEPTEMBER 14th 2018 FRIDAY FLYER We would like to welcome you all back to the new academic year and as you will see from the enclosed Programme of Events, this term is getting the year off to a very busy start! A very warm Teagues Bridge welcome is extended to 38 new children who joined us this term with 35 in our Reception year and 3 others across the school. Miss Poole who is teaching Base 4 class, Miss Bingham who leads Base 5 and Miss Gray who leads Base 6 have quickly gelled into the team at Teagues Bridge and have built up an excellent rapport with the children. The children have settled well into school life and are getting used to the daily routines; they especially enjoyed our special Roald Dahl day yesterday to celebrate this very special author’s birthday. The children in Base 1 celebrated by making dream jars, from the BFG, making a new tail for Mr Fox and making their own Mr Twit beards along with listening to Roald Dahl stories. Base 2 counted the characters in the Dahl books for maths and used the characters to help them with their pencil control. Whilst Base 3 enjoyed sharing Dahl stories and playing themed games during PE. Base 8 and 9 explored ‘George’s marvellous medicine’ and created their own medicines. Base 9 had the choice of making nice or disgusting medicine and there were some excellent descriptions, especially for the disgusting ones! We would also like to congratulate Mikaeel and Amandeep (Base 9) who have been appointed Head boy and Head girl for this school year; they are taking their responsibilities very seriously and working closely with Mrs Abdulla to ensure they fulfil the role. Well done!

This week in Literacy, Base 2 have been reading The Gruffalo. Children used role play to act out the story, using their masks that they made. Children then ordered events in the story and wrote a sentence to describe what happened. In maths Base 2 have been counting, on Thursday, this was counting characters from Roald Dahl novels. Children went for a walk to the woods because our topic is enchanted woodlands, they found leaves and leaf printed in the class room. Base 2 have also designed our own fairy garden.

This week Base 1 have attended for full days. Children have been exploring their learning environment and getting to know one another. School has been an exciting place and children are having lots of fun learning about what is expected and how we learn. Children have been helping Mrs Harris, Miss Nadeem and Mrs Garrett to create some art work for display. Next week children begin our learning on Traditional Tales.

This week in Base 3 children have taken part in their innovate for their topic pirates and princesses, children were able to dress up and go on a treasure hunt around school. Base 3 found lots of treasure which they counted and then the children hid their treasure so Blackbeard the Pirate could not find it. Base 3 are planning a recount to write about their innovate day. In maths, children have learnt to count on from a given number up to 100 and to find one more or one less.

This week Base 4 have been looking at the story The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch, working closely with the idea of a problem and resolution, to create their own Beach themed narrative stories. In Maths children have been using the Base 10 cubes to help them with their understanding of the place value of two digit numbers. In Science the classroom became a Silent Museum in which different artefacts were grouped into 3 groups. As a class they discussed and discovered that they were grouped by Living, Dead and Never been alive objects, and completed Venn Diagrams grouping different objects and even adding their own. Children learnt many features of the seaside in Geography, including the pier and promenade and compared two paintings of the seaside in Art discussing the similarities and differences, and enjoyed singing “I do like to be beside the seaside” during our music lesson!
