Page 2: Tuesday 14th September REDCAR - timeform.com

Going: Good to Firm

Narrow, left-handed, oval track which is approximately a mile and three quarters in extent. Races between five furlongs and one mile are run on the straight track. The course is perfectly flat, and with the exception of its two sharp bends, provides a very fair test. The course drains well, and when conditions are riding fast, it can sometimes be difficult to make up ground from off the pace.

Draw: N/A Pace Information: Insufficient Data

1 2 MAY BLOSSOM (10) (D) v 9210771934 2 9-11 | 62.1kg David O’Meara Daniel Tudhope Fair filly. Latest win at Beverley in July. Respectable fourth of 9 in minor event (9/1) at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 10 days ago. Looks vulnerable conceding weight all round.

2 1 LE BEAU GARCON (49) (D) 9421 2 9-9 | 61.2kg Michael & David Easterby Paul Mulrennan Twice-raced winner. 7/2, won 10-runner minor event at Beverley (5f, good to firm) 49 days ago, staying on well. Remains open to improvement and he’s high on the shortlist.

3 3 CHANT FOR MORE (IRE) (20) 7680 2 9-2 | 58.1kg Paul Midgley Kevin Stott Twice-raced maiden. Last of 13 in maiden at Catterick (5f, good to firm, 66/1) 20 days ago. Needs to find a sizeable jolt of improvement from somewhere.

4 4 FIREBOMB (51) (BF) 10072225 2 9-2 | 58.1kg Bryan Smart Graham Lee Lightly-raced maiden. Below form fifth of 11 in nursery at Musselburgh (5f, good to firm, 4/1) 51 days ago. Still, gelded since and will be a danger to all if able to get back on track here.

5 6 SUANNI (23) 95353 2 9-2 | 58.1kg Darryll Holland Tom Eaves Thrice-raced maiden. 9/1, third of 7 in maiden at Brighton (5.3f, good to soft) 23 days ago. Ought to pick up a race before long, but may again find one or two too good on this occasion.

6 8 VAN ZANT (17) 9502 2 9-2 | 58.1kg Ruth Carr James Sullivan Twice-raced maiden. Second of 9 in minor event (125/1) at this course (6f, good to firm) 17 days ago. That represented a big step forward compared to his low-key debut and he needs considering.

7 5 MACON BELLE (20) (BF) 99224 2 8-11 | 55.8kg Ed de Giles Jason Hart Thrice-raced maiden. Fourth of 13 in maiden at Catterick (5f, good to firm, 3/1) 20 days ago, slowly away. Runner-up at Bath on her first 2 starts and she’ll be a threat if getting away on terms.

8 7 QUEEN SPIRIT (IRE) 2 8-11 | 55.8kg Michael Dods Callum Rodriguez Foaled March 11. Tagula filly. Dam, 2-y-o 5f winner, half-sister to smart 5f winner Primo Uomo. Yard can ready a newcomer and it’ll be interesting to see what the market has to say.

8 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:10-3 Le Beau Garcon, 4-1 Firebomb, 9-2 Macon Belle, 13-2 Van Zant, 15-2 Suanni, 11-1 Queen Spirit, 12-1 May Blossom, 100-1 bar

TIMEFORM VIEW:There should be better to come from LE BEAU GARCON, who confirmed his debut promise when landing a Beverley novice in ready fashion. He is taken to follow up. Despite below par last-time-out efforts, Firebomb and Macon Belle both merit the utmost respect, particularly the former. Van Zant may also have a part to play if building on his recent effort here and Queen Spirit needs a market check.

Draw: Strongly Favours Low Pace Information: Strong

1 11 OPPRESSIVE (18) 92535 2 9-10 | 61.7kg K. R. Burke Clifford Lee Thrice-raced maiden. 5/1, fifth of 10 in novice at Thirsk (1m, good) 18 days ago. Makes handicap debut. May do better.

2 1 STROMBOLI (IRE) (35) 985247 2 9-9 | 61.2kg David O’Meara Daniel Tudhope Fair form but disappointed on 6f Nottingham nursery debut 35 days ago. Steps up to 7f now.

3 7 MACKENZIE ROSE (IRE) (19) 997432 2 9-7 | 60.3kg

Mark Johnston Joe Fanning Left her qualifying runs behind when second of 6 in nursery at Carlisle (7f, good to firm) 19 days ago. From good yard and could easily be more to come.

4 9 SMOOTH TALKING (14) (D) b 10037631 2 9-6 | 59.9kg Kevin Philippart de Foy P. J. McDonald Improved for blinkers when making second nursery start a winning one at Epsom (7f, good to firm) at the end of August. 6 lb rise may not stop him if the headgear continues to work.

5 4 TORBAIN CASTLE (71) 86666 2 9-5 | 59.4kg Iain Jardine Andrew Mullen Thrice-raced maiden. Sixth of 7 in novice at Ayr (7f, good) 71 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Needs improvement from this opening mark.

6 10 CARACRISTI (68) 89898 2 9-5 | 59.4kg

Philip Kirby Kevin Stott Down the field in 3 outings for Stef Keniry in June/July but worth a precautionary betting check now handicapping for a new yard.

7 6 ADJUDICATOR (IRE) (33) 98955 2 9-5 | 59.4kg Joseph Tuite Paul Mulrennan The best of his 3 efforts to date came when fifth over 7f at Kempton on penultimate start. Drop back to 6f may not have helped last time and he may do better now handicapping back over further.

8 3 ON THE RIVER (26) (D, BF) 9800621237 2 9-4 | 59.0kg Ben Haslam Harrison Shaw Winner over 7f at Musselburgh in July. Placed on his next 2 starts and perhaps found a busy spell catching up with him when only seventh at Wolverhampton latest. Freshened up since.

9 12 NOVAK (25) 894547 2 9-3 | 58.5kg Iain Jardine Tom Eaves Lightly-raced maiden. 10/3, bit free when seventh of 8 on 1m Musselburgh nursery debut 25 days ago and the drop back to 7f now may help.

10 2 STRIPZEE (11) (CD) b 940127676 2 9-2 | 58.1kg Tim Easterby David Allan C&D winner in June. Last of 6 in nursery (11/1) at Pontefract (6f, good) 11 days ago. Needs a couple of these to falter.

11 5 ARNSIDE (43) 90776 2 9-0 | 57.2kg Michael Dods Callum Rodriguez Thrice-raced maiden. 18/1, sixth of 13 in novice at Newcastle (6f) 43 days ago. May do better now handicapping.

12 8 ITSGOODTOBEUS (IRE) (58) 34880 2 8-0(7-11) | 50.8kg (49.4kg) Nigel Tinkler A. C. Persse (7lb/3kg) Big prices and down the field in 3 outings over 7f in June/July. Would need to see market support to consider now handicapping after an absence.

12 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:100-30 Smooth Talking, 9-2 Mackenzie Rose, 15-2 On The River, 12-1 Oppressive, 12-1 Arnside, 14-1 Adjudicator, 14-1 Novak, 16-1 Stromboli, 22-1 Stripzee, 22-1 Caracristi, 28-1 Itsgoodtobeus, 33-1 Torbain Castle

TIMEFORM VIEW:The blinkers worked a treat for SMOOTH TALKING last time and a 6 lb rise may not prevent him following up if the headgear works as well a second time. Mark Johnston’s Mackenzie Rose rates an obvious danger on the back of her Carlisle second, while On The River wasn’t at his best on AW last time but had done well in turf nurseries prior to that.

Draw: N/A Pace Information: Very Weak

1 1 SAFRAN (FR) (22) (D) h 10074704833 4 10-3 | 64.9kg David O’Meara S. B. Kirrane Shaped quite well when third of 11 in handicap at Ripon (1m, good) 22 days ago. Likely capable of winning off this mark.

2 5 STRONGBOWE (FR) (10) (D) s 9973124985 5 9-12 | 62.6kg Tim Easterby Ella McCain Latest win at Thirsk in June. Creditable fifth of 13 in handicap (11/1) at Thirsk (7f, good) 10 days ago. One to consider.

3 3 HARRY LOVE (IRE) (10) (D) 9297237-879 4 9-8 | 60.8kg Ollie Pears A. C. Persse (3lb/1kg) Cheekpieces on first time, behind the reopposing Strongbowe and Late Arrival when ninth of 13 in handicap at Thirsk (7f, good, 20/1) 10 days ago. Others are preferred.

4 7 ATHOLLBLAIR BOY (IRE) (17) (D) 9716727456 8 9-7 | 60.3kg Nigel Tinkler Oisin McSweeney (3lb/1kg) 13/2, respectable sixth of 13 in handicap at this course (6f, good to firm) 17 days ago. Capable of getting involved.

5 4 LATE ARRIVAL (IRE) (10) (D) 9800809416 4 9-5 | 59.4kg Michael & David Easterby William Pyle (7lb/3kg) Showed a good attitude from the front when just clinging on at Newcastle (7f) last month. Narrowly behind Strongbowe when a creditable sixth of 13 back on turf at Thirsk since.

6 6 CUSTODIAN (IRE) (20) 8941/906-69 4 9-4 | 59.0kg Tina Jackson Amie Waugh Well held both comeback starts for new yard last month. Can only be watched for now.

7 2 ASMUND (IRE) (21) 9803732323 4 8-11 | 55.8kg Declan Carroll Zak Wheatley (3lb/1kg) Just 1 win from 22 starts but he has been knocking on the door this year, finishing third of 8 in handicap at Yarmouth (7f, good to firm) 21 days ago.

7 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:11-4 Asmund, 4-1 Safran, 5-1 Late Arrival, 11-2 Strongbowe, 6-1 Athollblair Boy, 11-1 Harry Love, 50-1 bar

TIMEFORM VIEW:SAFRAN looks to be building up to something and is fancied to make light of top weight under Sean Kirrane. Strongbowe took a step back in the right direction at Thirsk last time and is well capable off this mark, while Asmund finds winning difficult but has consistently been in the money this year and can play a prominent role again.

1 3 COPPER AND FIVE (15) (D) 9635153126 5 9-10 | 61.7kg Ruth Carr Joanna Mason (3lb/1kg) Has won under this rider at Doncaster and Ripon this season. Not so good up in class when sixth of 8 in handicap at Ripon (8f) 15 days ago. Interesting if able to dominate here back in grade.

2 7 HAYADH (17) (D) 9874760353 8 9-9 | 61.2kg Harvey Bastiman Jason Hart Twelve runs since last win in 2020. Creditable third of 9 in handicap at Beverley (7.4f, firm, 11/2) 17 days ago. Prominent racer on a good mark and should give his running once more.

3 4 PISANELLO (IRE) (40) (D) s 950835-3406 4 9-9 | 61.2kg David O’Meara Daniel Tudhope Pretty useful at his best around 1m in France for Fabrice Chappet. Off 7 weeks, well held in handicap at this C&D (good, 40/1) on UK debut 40 days ago. Could be more of a slow burner for this yard.

4 2 IDOAPOLOGISE (96) s+t 1001/6210-835 4 9-7 | 60.3kg Edward Bethell Kevin Stott Three-time winner. Not so good when fifth of 6 in handicap at Haydock (8f, good to firm, 4/1) 96 days ago but big chance on his close call at Ayr before that.

5 1 OLD NEWS (10) (D) b 9705422158 4 9-4 | 59.0kg Linda Stubbs Shane Gray Latest win at Carlisle in August. 6 lengths eighth of 9 to Sucellus in handicap (10/1) at Haydock (8.2f, firm) 10 days ago, not knocked about once held. This is a bit tougher.

6 5 DELGREY BOY (12) (D) 9732234351 4 9-3 | 58.5kg Tim Easterby David Allan Second success when dead-heating with thriving rival in 12-runner handicap at Newcastle (8f, 11/1) 12 days ago, showing a good attitude. Got to be respected up 3 lb.

7 6 SUCELLUS (10) (D) t 996-9931761 5 9-2 | 58.1kg Oliver Greenall Megan Nicholls Two wins at Haydock under this rider this summer, latest in 9-runner handicap (8.2f, firm) 10 days ago, travelling well and leading only late on. Rated plenty higher in the past and feared again.

7 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:10-3 Delgrey Boy, 7-2 Sucellus, 5-1 Idoapologise, 6-1 Hayadh, 13-2 Copper And Five, 9-1 Old News, 22-1 Pisanello

TIMEFORM VIEW:Competitive stuff but IDOAPOLOGISE lurks on a good mark judged on his near-miss at Ayr in June and has won back from a break before, so he could be the way to go. Sucellus and Delgrey Boy both tasted success again last time out and are feared most.

The course is perfectly flat, and with the exception of its two sharp bends, provides a very fair test. Draw: N/A Pace Information: Even

1 1 BLACKHEATH (18) (D) s 9544-065300 6 9-10 | 61.7kg Michael Dods Tom Eaves It’s now twelve runs since last win in 2020, and only twelfth of 13 in handicap (40/1) at Thirsk (6f, good) 18 days ago. Has work to do.

2 6 MUTANAASEQ (IRE) (18) (D) s 9912336256 6 9-6 | 59.9kg Ruth Carr James Sullivan Creditable sixth of 11 in handicap (14/1) at Thirsk (7f, good) 18 days ago, never nearer. Cheekpieces on 1st time and he can’t be ruled out from a handy-looking mark.

3 7 KHABIB (IRE) (10) s 964-0721294 3 9-5 | 59.4kg Ray Craggs Paul Hanagan Latest win at Beverley in July and respectable fourth of 8 in handicap at Thirsk (5f, good) 10 days ago. Cheekpieces back on and shortlisted.

4 8 CAPTAIN VALLO (IRE) (17) (D) h 1007-253173 3 9-4 | 59.0kg Phillip Makin Rowan Scott Winner at Hamilton in July and posted good third of 13 in handicap at this C&D (good to firm) 17 days ago, running on from a poor draw. Has to be taken seriously off an unchanged mark.

5 3 RUNNINWILD (10) (CD) h 9606176412 3 9-4 | 59.0kg Ann Duffield Shane Gray Has proved unreliable individual but C&D winner who posted good second of 8 in handicap at Thirsk (5f, good) 10 days ago, faring best of those ridden prominently. Not taken lightly in current mood.

6 4 HIGHJACKED (103) (CD) 982333-1216 5 9-1 | 57.6kg John Davies Graham Lee C&D winner who wasn’t disgraced when sixth of 15 to Mutanaaseq in handicap (9/2) at Thirsk (6f, good to firm). Off 103 days and needs to hit the ground running off a career-high mark.

7 2 WADE’S MAGIC (14) (D) s 9753723731 4 9-0 | 57.2kg Tim Easterby Ella McCain (5lb/2kg) Back to winning ways in 7-runner handicap at Ripon (6f, good to firm) 14 days ago. Up 3 lb but he ought to be competitive again.

8 5 JET SET GO (74) 9886/29-2340 6 8-9 | 54.9kg Seb Spencer Cam Hardie Last of 11 in handicap (13/2) at Haydock (7f, good to firm) 74 days ago. Needs a couple of these to falter if she’s to gain a breakthrough win.

8 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:3-1 Wade’s Magic, 5-1 Runninwild, 6-1 Captain Vallo, 7-1 Highjacked, 8-1 Jet Set Go, 9-1 Mutanaaseq, 9-1 Khabib, 33-1 Blackheath

TIMEFORM VIEW:A tightly-knit sprint in which CAPTAIN VALLO gets the nod given he can race off the same mark as when a very good C&D third last month from a poor draw. Wade’s Magic is feared most on the back of his recent Ripon victory, with the well-weighted Mutanaaseq and the rejuvenated Runninwild two others who warrant plenty of respect.

2 6 MAPPA MUNDI (IRE) 3 9-5 | 59.4kg Brian Meehan Louis Steward 52,000gns yearling. Kodiac half-brother to fair winner Decisive Action (6f-1m). Dam unraced half-sister to French 12.5f Group 3 winner. Appeals on paper so much respected. Has had wind op.

3 2 RATAFIA (48) s 8804 3 9-5 | 59.4kg Michael Herrington Tom Eaves Much better effort in maidens when (cheekpieces on) fourth of 7 in maiden at Leicester (7f, good, 100/1) 48 days ago. Needs another step forward here, though.

4 8 UCKERBY (11) 505 3 9-5 | 59.4kg

Grant Tuer Paul Mulrennan 50/1, fifth of 6 in minor event at Newcastle (5f) on debut 11 days ago. Lots more required now.

5 4 ZAGHAL (IRE) 3 9-5 | 59.4kg

Grant Tuer Cam Hardie 10,500 gns 3-y-o, Exceed And Excel gelding. Dam 1m maiden. Not without interest on pedigree, so market is worth a check for debutant from in-form yard.

6 9 CIVIL JUSTICE GONE (20) 108 3 9-0 | 57.2kg David Thompson Connor Murtagh (3lb/1kg) 66/1, eighth of 9 in minor event at Catterick (7f, good to firm) on debut 20 days ago, very slowly away. Significantly more is required.

7 5 CROFTERS GREEN (15) 794 3 9-0 | 57.2kg Richard Fahey Tony Hamilton 25/1, shaped encouragingly when debut fourth of 8 in minor event (25/1) at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 15 days ago, slowly away. Open to progress.

8 7 EMBLA (48) 7605 3 9-0 | 57.2kg Alan Brown Rowan Scott Twice-raced maiden. 100/1, fifth of 14 in minor event at this course (7f, good) 48 days ago. More improvement still is required if she’s to figure.

9 1 MASQUERADING (31) t 9635 3 9-0 | 57.2kg Bryan Smart Daniel Tudhope Promising individual. 33/1, fifth of 9 in minor event at Doncaster (6f, good to firm) 31 days ago. Tongue strap on 1st time and likely to do better still. Well worth considering.

10 10 MISS BEHAVING (11) 9944 3 9-0 | 57.2kg Ann Duffield Shane Gray Failed to build on debut fourth when occupying same slot in 6-runner minor event at Newcastle (5f, 10/1) 11 days ago. Not written off yet, however.

BETTING FORECAST:7-2 Masquerading, 4-1 As If By Chance, 11-2 Miss Behaving, 8-1 Mappa Mundi, 8-1 Zaghal, 9-1 Crofters Green, 16-1 Ratafia, 22-1 Uckerby, 40-1 bar

TIMEFORM VIEW:MASQUERADING took a big step forward when fifth at Doncaster and is fanced to open her account with more progress in the pipeline from Bryan Smart’s daughter of Charming Thought. As If By Chance is a consistent sort who seems sure to make his presence felt and he rates a big threat, although a market move for either of the newcomers Zaghal and Mappa Mundi would put a different slant on things.

RACE 6

Page 8: Tuesday 14th September REDCAR - timeform.com

Going: Good to Firm

Narrow, left-handed, oval track which is approximately a mile and three quarters in extent. Races between five furlongs and one mile are run on the straight track. The course is perfectly flat, and with the exception of its two sharp bends, provides a very fair test. The course drains well, and when conditions are riding fast, it can sometimes be difficult to make up ground from off the pace.

Draw: Against High Pace Information: Even

1 8 MAJOR SNUGFIT (5lb/2kg ex) (7) v+t 9659-055121 5 10-4 | 65.3kg Rebecca Menzies Paul Mulrennan Visor on for 1st time in this code, career best when winning 11-runner handicap at Catterick (12.1f, good to firm, 13/2) 7 days ago, just holding on. Should give it a good shot under a penalty.

2 3 CONTREBASSE (18) v 1007-2526466 6 10-0 | 63.5kg Tim Easterby David Allan Sixteen runs since last win in 2019. 13/2, sixth of 9 in handicap at Thirsk (16.1f, good) 18 days ago. Eased in class here and has to be taken very seriously off a career-low mark.

3 4 THORNTOUN CARE (12) s 975-2629725 10 9-8 | 60.8kg Roger Fell Gemma Tutty (3lb/1kg) Eighteen runs since last win in 2019. 16/1, respectable fifth of 10 in handicap at Haydock (11.6f, good to firm) 12 days ago, slowly away. Up in trip and should make his presence felt.

4 2 VISITANT (17) s 936668598 8 9-4 | 59.0kg

David Thompson Louis Steward Respectable eighth of 16 in handicap at Beverley (9.9f, firm, 14/1) 17 days ago, very slowly away. Cheekpieces back on. Likely to find a few too good once more.

5 7 DESERT QUEST (IRE) (28) (D) s 9187-057211 3 9-2 | 58.1kg Ewan Whillans Cam Hardie 4/1, career best when winning 11-runner handicap at Hamilton (12.1f, good) 28 days ago, staying on well. Clearly on the up and merits respect, for all that a 4 lb rise demands a new personal best.

6 5 POUND OFF YOU (28) 93U5/37-6270 5 9-0 | 57.2kg Gillian Boanas Joanna Mason (3lb/1kg) Sixth of 8 in novice hurdle at Hexham (16.2f, good to soft, 28/1) on NH debut 14 days ago. Poor effort on latest start in this sphere and she’s essentially opposable.

7 6 O’REILLY’S PASS (11) 9460430408 4 9-0(8-13) | 57.2kg (56.7kg) Ruth Carr James Sullivan Remains a maiden after 17 Flat runs. Eighth of 10 in handicap (12/1) at Newcastle (12.4f) 11 days ago. Others more persuasive from a win point of view.

8 1 VIVID LUMINOSITY (FR) (124) 16809 4 9-0(8-13) | 57.2kg (56.7kg) Adam West S. B. Kirrane (5lb/2kg) Thrice-raced maiden on Flat. 300/1, last of 9 in minor event at Salisbury (9.9f, soft). Off 124 days. Significantly up in trip for this handicap debut and huge step forward required.

9 10 JAN DE HEEM (33) (CD) b 865006-9790 11 9-0(8-13) | 57.2kg (56.7kg) Tina Jackson Amie Waugh (5lb/2kg) C&D winner. Fourteen runs since last win in 2019. 100/1, eleventh of 12 in handicap at Beverley (16.2f, good to firm) 33 days ago. Hopes pinned on refitting of blinkers sparking a revival.

10 9 HAZALOU (20) 909-707 3 8-10 | 55.3kg Iain Jardine Andrew Mullen Lightly-raced maiden. Seventh of 8 in handicap (17/2) at Musselburgh (9f, good) 20 days ago. Significantly up in trip and he’s another who needs to raise his game a couple of notches.

10 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:11-4 Contrebasse, 10-3 Desert Quest, 9-2 Major Snugfit, 10-1 Thorntoun Care, 14-1 Pound Off You, 16-1 O’reilly’s Pass, 16-1 Visitant, 20-1 Hazalou, 66-1 bar

TIMEFORM VIEW:CONTREBASSE needs to bounce back following a below-par display at Thirsk, but there’s a good chance that he’ll do just that now eased in grade off a career-low mark. The 6-y-o gets the nod ahead of Major Snugfit, who was tenacious from the front when narrowly prevailing at Catterick last week. The hat-trick seeking Desert Quest also enters calculations, while Thorntoun Care is not without hope.

5 1 HIDDEN PEARL (13) 940-6543324 5 9-6 | 59.9kg John Berry Paul Hanagan Still looking for first success but has made the frame on several occasions this term and wasn’t seen to best effect when fourth at Bath (13f, good to firm) last time. Can make presence felt.

6 9 COUP DE GOLD (IRE) (42) 9454-438368 5 9-5 | 59.4kg David Thompson Harrison Shaw Creditable third of 14 in handicap hurdle (10/1) at Cartmel (22.1f, good) 15 days ago. Modest on the Flat, poor on last Flat run. Needs a couple of these to falter.
