Maximum Effort for Maximum Achievement’ Friday 27th September 2019 Diary Dates for Next Week School Dinners - Week 2 Tuesday 2nd October Isle of Wight Payment 2 due (£75) Friday 4th October Harvest Festivals at Christ Church - Year 3/4 at 9.30am, Year 5/6 at 10.45am There are three things which I seem to mention quite often in our newsletters - parking issues, lost property and how quickly time is flashing by. The latter came to my mind as I was starting to prepare this weeks newsletter - we are almost in October and it will be half-term before we know it! On Monday, we had our FriendsAssociation AGM. It was lovely to see one or two new faces but we do need to see more volunteers coming forward to join the committee. At the end of this year, Laura, Claire and Andrea are all stepping down, after three years in office, so we will looking for a new Chair and two new Vice-Chairs at some point. It would be great if we could identify people to take over these roles sooner rather than later as this would mean there is a chance to shadow Laura, Andrea and Claire, which would make taking over the roles so much easier. Without these roles being filled, it will mean no FriendsAssociation which, in turn, means no discos, film nights, Bonanza or Christmas Bazaar to mention just a few things. It will also mean no additional funds would be raised. Last year, the FriendsAssociation raised over £26,000 which was used to purchase additional resources for the school, such as laptops and Clevertouch boards as well as fund treats such as the Year 6 LeaversDisco. Please do consider stepping forwards to help - its also great fun and a fabulous way to make new friends! Today we said au revoirto Mrs Mason as she starts her well- deserved maternity leave - we look forward to hearing exciting news of Baby Masons arrival in the next few weeks! Harvest Festivals Our Harvest Festivals are always extremely well-attended so please forgive me for the house-keeping reminders below: Please could we politely ask that early birds dont save more than one seat for family members and can we also request that older siblings dont come along – this is because the church is usually bursting to capacity with just parents and grandparents so there will be no room for additional siblings. The Cornerstone Coffee Shop will be open for tea/coffee and light refreshments and seemed to be very popular last year! Thank you, in advance, for your support with our requests. Year 6 Open DoorAfternoon Thank you very much to everyone who was able to come along to the Year 6 Open Doorafternoon. I hope that you found the afternoon both enjoyable and enlightening and enjoyed assisting with the European culture art work. Thank you also to the Year 6 staff and children for being so accommodating - as I am sure you can imagine, an additional twenty plus adults in the room certainly has an impact! Secondary School Applications for September 2020 A reminder for Year 6 parents I have been asked by Essex SchoolsAdmissions to remind Year 6 parents that the closing date for applications for parents of Year 6 children (for a secondary school place in September 2020) is 31st October 2019. Applications should be made via their website: www.essex.gov.uk/admissions Please note that you have to register on the site and create your own log in - the Local Authority will not send you any information directly. Mill Hill Drive Just a reminder that Mill Hill Drive is a pedestrian only private road and should not be used to park cars when dropping children off or picking them up. This also applies when dropping off or picking children up for before and after school clubs. Walk to School Week The weather did not get the message that we were holding our Walk to School week this week, but we have been really pleased by the dedication and the willingness of everybody to battle against the elements. It has been brilliant to see families walking to school together, completing the different activities from the weeks diary and arriving at school with smiles on their faces. Happy Shoesdaywas a huge success with a fabulous array of footwear. This year the most popular choice of footwear was slippers which led to an invasion of soft, oversized furry animals for the day. Thank you for your support this week and we hope that you continue to adopt a cleaner and healthier option of travelling to and from school.

Friday 27th September 2019

Diary Dates for Next Week School Dinners - Week 2

Tuesday 2nd October

Isle of Wight Payment 2 due (£75) Friday 4th October

Harvest Festivals at Christ Church - Year 3/4 at 9.30am, Year 5/6 at 10.45am

There are three things which I seem to mention quite often in our newsletters - parking issues, lost property and how quickly

time is flashing by. The latter came to my mind as I was starting to prepare this week’s newsletter - we are almost in

October and it will be half-term before we know it! On Monday, we had our Friends’ Association AGM. It was lovely

to see one or two new faces but we do need to see more volunteers coming forward to join the committee. At the end of this year, Laura, Claire and Andrea are all stepping down, after three years in office, so we will looking for a new Chair

and two new Vice-Chairs at some point. It would be great if we could identify people to take over these roles sooner rather than later as this would mean there is a chance to shadow

Laura, Andrea and Claire, which would make taking over the roles so much easier. Without these roles being filled, it will mean no Friends’ Association which, in turn, means no discos,

film nights, Bonanza or Christmas Bazaar to mention just a few things. It will also mean no additional funds would be raised.

Last year, the Friends’ Association raised over £26,000 which was used to purchase additional resources for the school, such as laptops and Clevertouch boards as well as fund treats such

as the Year 6 Leavers’ Disco. Please do consider stepping forwards to help - it’s also great fun and a fabulous way to

make new friends! Today we said ‘au revoir’ to Mrs Mason as she starts her well-

deserved maternity leave - we look forward to hearing exciting news of Baby Mason’s arrival in the next few weeks!

Harvest Festivals Our Harvest Festivals are always extremely well-attended so

please forgive me for the house-keeping reminders below: Please could we politely ask that early birds don’t save more

than one seat for family members and can we also request that older siblings don’t come along – this is because the

church is usually bursting to capacity with just parents and grandparents so there will be no room for additional siblings. The Cornerstone Coffee Shop will be open for tea/coffee and light refreshments and seemed to be very popular last year! Thank you, in advance, for your support with our requests.

Year 6 ‘Open Door’ Afternoon Thank you very much to everyone who was able to come along to the Year 6 ‘Open Door’ afternoon. I hope that you found the afternoon both enjoyable and enlightening and

enjoyed assisting with the European culture art work. Thank you also to the Year 6 staff and children for being so

accommodating - as I am sure you can imagine, an additional twenty plus adults in the room certainly has an

impact!

Secondary School Applications for September 2020 A reminder for Year 6 parents

I have been asked by Essex Schools’ Admissions to remind Year 6 parents that the closing date for applications for parents of Year 6 children (for a secondary school place

in September 2020) is 31st October 2019. Applications should be made via their website:

www.essex.gov.uk/admissions Please note that you have to register on the site and create your own log in - the Local Authority will not send you any

information directly.

Mill Hill Drive Just a reminder that Mill Hill Drive is a pedestrian only private

road and should not be used to park cars when dropping children off or picking them up. This also applies when dropping

off or picking children up for before and after school clubs.

Walk to School Week The weather did not get the message that we were holding

our Walk to School week this week, but we have been

really pleased by the dedication and the willingness of everybody to battle against the elements. It has been

brilliant to see families walking to school together, completing the different activities from the week’s diary

and arriving at school with smiles on their faces. ‘Happy Shoesday’ was a huge success with a fabulous array of

footwear. This year the most popular choice of footwear

was slippers which led to an invasion of soft, oversized furry animals for the day. Thank you for your support this

week and we hope that you continue to adopt a cleaner and healthier option of travelling to and from school.

Afternoon Tea This week we were joined by the first children on the class registers. As ever, the children were very excited to make

their way into the staff room (usually off-limits) and to take their places on the comfy staff chairs! The children love sharing their favourite pieces of work, meeting children

from other year groups and, of course, tucking into the tasty treats, especially the Kit Kats and Penguins!

Dementia Friends This morning, the School Council and House Captains were

visited by Maureen Lee who is a Dementia Friends Champion. During her visit, Maureen helped the children to understand more about dementia and how it affects people in different ways. She also spoke about the impact on the family as a whole. As our School Council members and

House Captains make regular visits to The Ark, who have many clients with dementia, they already meet the criteria to become ‘Dementia Friends’ themselves. During the talk,

the children listened attentively and asked some very pertinent questions.

Rotakids Presentation On Wednesday morning, we

were joined in our assembly by Ben Clarke (President of the

Billericay Rotary Club) and Mike Sinclair (Youth Officer for the Billericay Rotary Club). Mike and Ben spoke to the children

about the role of the Rotakids and then presented this year’s

Rotakids with their badges of office. We look forward to seeing

our new Rotakids in action!

European Day of Languages For the first time ever, European Day of Languages

came to Buttsbury! Celebrated on the 26th September every year, its aim is to promote linguistic diversity and awareness of other cultures. The children participated

in a huge range of activities such as painting stones with flags, writing ‘hello’ in different European

languages, discovering the word for 'friend' and using this to create a friendship circle. They also found out which countries make up Europe. The House Captains

participated in a very tricky quiz in assembly. At lunch, Jo, our cook, and her team prepared a very special

taster menu, including foods from around Europe which all the children and staff enjoyed! A special mention goes to Aisha Sarfraz, Fatima Ahmed, Yahia Asfour,

Elena Stent and Andrew Dimitriev who prepared some fabulous presentations and delivered them to the Year

5 and 6 children. Not only this, but they also created great activities for the children. We would

like to thank their parents for their support in preparing for this activity. We would also like to say a

special word of thanks to Miss Unite, who organised the whole day!
