Global Warming: Problems and BenefitsBenefits Problems

Longer growing season in rich agricultural areas such as

Europe and North America will increase food production

Increased food production could get some countries’

economies stronger and increase global trade.

An additional 220-240 million people may be at risk from malaria

particularly in China and central Asia. Tropical diseases in Africa likely

to spread to North of continent

The diseases will slow down countries’ economies and could

spread and cause real damage to the end of the world

Energy consumption may go down as temperatures increase in

densely populated parts of the world such as north-west Europe

Higher sea levels may flood low-lying areas such as Bangladesh and

the Netherlands, threatening the lives of millions

Frozen regions of the world such as Siberia and northern

Canada may be able to grow crops in a milder climate

These regions will be able to trade more and be more

self-reliant.

Loss of glaciers (fresh water) in the Himalayas may threaten

agriculture and water supply in India, Nepal and China.

Canada’s North-West Passage may become ice-free and can be

used by shipping

Some species, whose habitat changes, may become extinct – there

is considerable concern about polar bears in the Arctic

Some species becoming extinct can endanger other as I

disrupts the food chain which can link in to human agriculture.
