Dear Parents, I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Please take this opportunity to have fun with your kids, let them enjoy their time with family and friends. If you are travelling, I wish you a safe journey. Please remember that we re-start on January 3rd. Happy Holidays J. Barney Latham Interim Director



As part of the school-wide garden initiative, Grades 3 and 4 planted an edible garden. Students first cleared out the planters of old weeds and debris. They then added compost and mulched it with some dead leaves. Finally, they all took the opportunity to plant the plants. The students from 3rd and 4th grade planted tomatoes, okra, cauliflower, broccoli, parsley, celery, spinach, and peppers (sweet and spicy). As the plants grow, the students will continue to take care of the garden and harvest the vegetables. The students were extremely excited and proud to take part in this initiative.



Dear Parents, Wishing you all the best over the Holiday season and warmest wishes for the New Year. To all families who will be leaving us, we wish you all the best in your new schools and homes. We will cherish the memo-

ries made with you and your children and we thank you for your contribution to ISPS over the years. I held a transition group with the ES students who are leaving and these were some of their reflections….

When I think about my new school, I wonder if… Some of my ISPS friends who moved to that State would also be in my new school I will get a lot of difficult homework I will have someone like a student ambassador to show me around the first day I will make a lot of friends I will adjust to a different school system

Who We Are - Staying fit and healthy!

Did you know that your small intestines can be as long as 10 meters? That’s one of the fun facts that Grade 3 learned during our Who We Are Unit on health and fitness. During this unit, students inquired into how peo-ple’s lifestyles are affected by the choices they make. The students examined food labels and learned about calories, fat, sugar and salt content. The students discovered that some of the foods we eat contain ingredients to make them last longer and debated whether this was a good thing or not. To do this, we examined a portion of French fries, a banana, and a cut apple over a number of days, for any changes in appear-ance and odor. We rec-orded any changes we observed. Along with learning about eating healthfully, the

students also learned about four major body systems: digestive, mus-cular, skeletal and audito-ry. Dr. Amanda Headley visited us and taught us about how the auditory system works, its parts, and how to protect our hearing. Ask us, we can now name all the parts and, explain how the sys-tem works! Mr. Sickles (from Middle School) also helped us to understand how the skel-etal and digestive systems work and gave us an amazing demonstration of how the stomach works using a plastic bag, water, and crackers. Our School Nurse, Vanda Gomes also came to talk to us about good hygiene and taught us how to wash our hands and how to sneeze and cough. Altogether, it has been an exciting, though some-times gross unit of learn-ing!

Registration Forms for ASA 2 are available at the front desk. ASA 2 starts on 9th January and ends on 29th March, 2017 Please register early to ensure that your child gets into their activity of choice. PK can register for Gymnastics, Karate, Soccer and Basketball. New Activities - ES Yoga (Grades 2 to 5, Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 in the PE Classroom),

Defensive Driving (Grades 10 to 12, Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:30 in the PE Classroom) Field Hockey (Grades 5 to 8, Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 on the North Field)

CAISSA News: Season 2 CAISSA (Boys Basketball and Girls Soccer) from 25th to 29th January, takes place in Ecuador. The teams have been selected and are in training. The venue for Season 3 (Boys' Soccer and Girls' Basketball), from March 29th to 2nd April, is the Dominican Republic and will be hosted by the Carol Morgan School.

Congratulations to Dylan Baksh! Dylan received the "Best Work Ethic" trophy for the Under 12 team's tour of the Disney Cup in Orlando in July 2016.

Secondary Schools’ Volleyball League: Congratulations to our Under 16 Girls' Volleyball team. They won the North Zone Volleyball Championship last Friday afternoon at SJCPOS. Our Under 20 Girls' Team placed 3rd in the North Zone. Our teams received their awards at a ceremony at Bishops Anstey Girls’ High School on Monday. Our Boys and Under 16 Girls will be participating in the National Finals in January (Date and Venue to be announced).

ES Rugby: Sincerest thanks to Karl and Nicola Porter for their leadership with our Saturday ES Rugby program. Best of luck to you and your family. May you tackle all challenges head on and come out on top. Sincerest thanks for your support in 2016!
