IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS

Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) The counselors review and update this state working

document to create a 4 year plan of the courses taken and those to take prior to graduation.

Student Transcript All the courses previously taken and the credits

earned. This document is requested by colleges when your student applies and it will follow them after high school.

Student Schedule Request (Verification Form) Review and verify the courses requested for the next

school year. Sent home in the Spring. Please sign and have student return to the counseling office.

ATTENDANCE INFORMATION

If a final grade is a passing grade (A,B,C or D) and your student has been absent (non-excused days) for more than 5 days for a 1.0 credit course or 2.5 days for a 0.5 credit course, there will be NO CREDIT EARNED and the course will have to be repeated in order to earn the credit. Excuses include: doctors notes, court notes Students must turn them into an excuse box (one located in the

commons on the pole in front of the main office)

Mrs. Leslie Cooper – School Office Specialist for Attendance Meets with the students frequently in the Spring to inform them

and remind them of the hours they must make up.

Attend ATTENDANCE RECOVERY (Afterschool tutoring) in the Spring (if it is offered). Students must remember to sign in and sign out to track time.

GPA (4.0 AND 5.0 SCALE) Please note that all 3 GPAs may be different!

The Taylor Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS) Core GPA uses the 5.0 scale and is determined by the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Aid (LOSFA) for TOPS eligibility

HHS GPA uses the 5.0 scale for awards/val/sal and is reported by counselors to the university (please note: universities can determine a student GPA based on what criteria they wish)

Louisiana Dept. of Education (state transcript) only uses the 4.0 scale

TAYLOR OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS (TOPS) [LOSFA] State scholarship for Louisiana residents who attend

college in Louisiana. Four Award Components:

Opportunity Award – Tuition Performance Award – Tuition + $400 Honors Award – Tuition + $800 Tech Award – Tuition at a two year Louisiana Community

or Technical College

Pro-rata distribution of funds under a budget shortfall The most recent Special Legislative Session in June

determined the 2018-2019 school year is fully funded for TOPS recipients.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS Concurrent Enrollment on a College Campus

Student can take courses on a college campus that will only count for credit on a college transcript. (Fee may be involved)

Dual Enrollment at HHS Student can take courses with HHS teachers in order to earn credit for high school

and college. Student can request to take a DE class, but in order to earn credit, the he/she must

meet the requirements provided by the LA Board of Regents. Beginning 2018-2019 school year the minimum requirements include:

2.5 cumulative GPA and an ACT score of 18 in English and 19 in Math

Early Release Student will need to provide a copy of a check stub or an official letter

(letterhead) from employer. Student can also be enrolled in a college.

Edgenuity Courses and SCA Online Courses Student can take an online course in addition to the 8 scheduled courses. This

course must be completed on your own time. (Fee may be involved)

Satellite Center Student can be enrolled in 4 classes in addition to Satellite Center. (Please see

counselor if you think this will be a problem with your schedule)

DUAL ENROLLMENT & CLEP CLEP

The CLEP series provides students the chance to gain college credit without taking a course, which allows them to save money, move into advanced coursework more quickly, and ultimately graduate from college faster.

SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Please encourage your student to be involved in some part of the community starting freshman year and beyond.

Scholarship Committees for local and college scholarships typically request for a list of community involvement including: Clubs Sports ROTC Community Service in and out of school (volunteer) Extra Curricular Activities (Band, Theatre, Choir,

Cheer, Dance Team, Color Guard, etc.) Leadership Roles
