INTRODUZIONE

Oggi, con i suoi circa 10 mila ettari di foresta e macchiamediterranea, il comprensorio delle foreste demaniali diSettefratelli e Castiadas è senza dubbio uno dei luoghi piùaffascinanti e interessanti della Sardegna sudorientale. Caratterizzato dal punto di vista geologico da estesi affioramentigranitici modellati dall’erosione delle acque e dal vento, questoterritorio a volte impervio, ha conservato molti lembi delleancestrali coperture vegetazionali tipiche dell’isola. Qui il cervosardo ha trovato rifugio ed è oggi presente in gran numero,grazie alle azioni mirate alla sua protezione e conservazioneportate avanti dalla Regione Autonoma della Sardegna. Leforeste demaniali di Settefratelli e Castiadas non sono soltantouno degli areali di eccellenza del cervo sardo, ma anche ambientinaturali in cui facilmente si incontrano l’aquila, la martora e lalepre sarda, oltre al frequentissimo cinghiale. Il rispetto e lasensibilità nel fruire dei beni naturali trovano in questa corniceun ideale momento di riflessione e consapevolezza: le cime deiSettefratelli, i greti fioriti di oleandro, la fitta macchiamediterranea, i bramiti dei cervi sono ancora in grado di offriresensazioni e emozioni ancestrali come se ciascuno fosse ancora esempre il primo a godere di questi scenari.

INTRODUCTION

With its 10 000 hectares of forestand Mediterranean maquis, todaythe Government forest ofSettefratelli and Castiadas is,without doubt, one of the mostfascinating and interesting places in south east Sardinia.Renowned for its geologycomprising vast granite outcropssculptured by wind and watererosion, this area, at timesimpervious, has preserved manyancestral strips of vegetation thatare typical of the island. Here theSardinian red deer is safe and itsnumbers have grown greatly thanksto the specific protection andconservation activities carried out by the Regione Autonoma dellaSardegna. The Government forestsof Settefratelli and Castiadas are notonly one of the areas of excellencefor the Sardinian red deer, but arealso natural environments where wecan easily see eagles, pine martensand the Sardinian hare, as well asthe commonly seen wild boar.Respect and sensitivity in visitingthis natural area allow for an idealplace for reflection and perception:the Settefratelli mountain peaks,the blooming oleander, the thickMediterranean maquis and the deerroars are able to fill us withancestral emotions and sensationsthat make us feel as we wereexperiencing it all for the first time.

Très caractérisé au point devue géologique par d’immensesaffleurements granitiques modeléspar l’érosion des eaux et du vent,ce territoire parfois inaccessible aconservé de nombreux pans descouvertures ancestrales devégétation typique de l’île. Ici le cerf sarde a trouvé refuge et estaujourd’hui très présent en grandnombre, grâce aux efforts quimirent à sa protection et à saconservation, entrepris par laRégion Autonome de la Sardaigne.Les forêts domaniales deSettefratelli et Castiadas ne sont pas seulement une des aires parexcellence du cerf sarde, mais aussiun des milieux naturels où il estfacile de rencontrer l’aigle, la martreet le lièvre sarde, et fréquemment le sanglier. Materiali cartaceiinformativi, sentieristica e la possibilità di contattare personaledell’Ente e guide per accompagnamento lo rendono la metaideale per chiunque voglia ottimizzare tempi e modalità di fruizione dell’area e conoscerne da vicino alcune dellecaratteristiche più salienti.

THE VISITORS’ CENTRE

The visitors’ centre todayrepresents an essential andefficient reception area wherevisitors can obtain pertinentinformation as regards the mostcorrect and safest use of thenature trails at hand. Printed information on trails,contact numbers of the Agency’spersonnel and guides make this an ideal place for anyone whowishes to make the most of his/hertime to better understand whereto go and which are the mostimportant and typical aspectsto be seen.

SENTIERISTICA E FRUIZIONE

Se la tutela, la conservazione e il miglioramento dellecaratteristiche agro-forestali e faunistiche delle aree demaniali ècompito imprescindibile dell’Ente, oggi nel quadro della nuovapolitica gestionale sono obiettivo primario la multifunzionalitàdelle foreste e la loro apertura alla fruizione pubblica attraversola promozione del turismo sostenibile con l’affidamento dellagestione delle strutture a soggetti esterni in grado di erogare iservizi ricettivi e di ospitalità in foresta.

TRAILS AND WALKS

Maintenance, preservation andimprovement of the agro-forestryand fauna of the Governmentareas are under the bindingresponsibility of the GovernmentAgency. However, within theframework of the newmanagement policy the main aimis to make the forestmultifunctional and open to thepublic through the promotion ofsustainable tourism. Management of boarding andlodging facilities would be in thehands of external people.

Al fine di garantire la maggior fruibilità possibile dell’areademaniale è stato realizzato un sentiero natura accessibileanche a persone non vedenti. Attraverso questa esperienza chiunque potrà toccarecon mano la natura. È qui che le percezioni olfattive, tattili e uditive immergerannoil turista in dimensioni spesso, purtroppo, relegate in secondo piano nel vivere quotidiano.

THE NATURE TRAIL FOR THE BLIND

In order to guarantee a highlyvaried service of the Governmentarea, a nature trail has been setup that even blind people can use.Through this experience, anyonewill be able to feel nature, withtheir own hands. Here visitors are encouraged touse their sense of smell, touch andhearing by plunging themselves inthe natural context, which issometimes relegated at a lowerlevel in our everyday lives.

LE SENTIER NATURE POURLES NON VOYANTS

Afin de garantir le meilleur usagepossible de l’aire domaniale, unsentier nature a été réalisé pourl’accès aux personnes nonvoyantes. A travers cetteexpérience qui que ce soit pourra“toucher” la nature. Et c’est ici que les perceptionsolfactives, auditives et du toucher,plongeront le touriste dans uneautre dimension qui trop souventdans le quotidien est relégué ensecond plan.



THE CORSICAN RED DEERMUSEUM

A place of mixture betweenscience and art, the museumpresents vast readings on theparticular, suggestive world,where for thousands of years, theCorsican red deer has lived.Through naturalistic artifacts,paintings, dioramas, didactic areasand scientific material, visitors canplunge themselves completely inthe history of this proud butreserved ungulate. The newexhibition inherits a rich anddetailed collection of scientific anddidactic material on the life andbehaviour of the Corsican red deerand on the connected localpopular traditions and uses. Thiscollection has been built upthanks to the dedication of theSardinian Forest Agency staff.

LE MUSEE DU CERF SARDE

Lieu de synthèse entre culturescientifique et arts visuels, lemusée propose une large lecturedu monde très suggestif quientoure depuis des millénaires le cerf sarde. A travers les lieuxnaturalistes, toiles artistiques,installations, scènes de paysages,espaces didactiques et matériel de grand intérêt scientifique, levisiteur pourra se plongercomplètement dans l’histoire de cefier et fuyant ongulé. La nouvellemise au point permet d’avoir uneriche collection de matérielscientifique et didactique sur la vie et les habitudes du cerf sardeet des coutumes et traditionspopulaires locales qui leconcernent, réalisée avec amour et passion par le personnel del’Organisme des Forêts.



IL MUSEO DEL CERVO SARDO

Luogo di sintesi tra cultura scientifica e arti visive il museopropone un’ampia lettura dell’articolato e suggestivo mondo che, da millenni, avvolge il cervo sardo. Attraverso preparatinaturalistici, tele artistiche, installazioni, diorami, spazi didatticie materiali di alto interesse scientifico, il visitatore potràimmergersi completamente nella storia di questo fiero e schivoungulato. Il nuovo allestimento eredita una ricca e articolataraccolta di materiali scientifici e didattici sulla vita e le abitudinidel cervo sardo e sugli usi e le tradizioni popolari locali ad essocollegate, costruita nel tempo con amore e passione dalpersonale dell’Ente Foreste.

Today, a new suggestive visualtrail complements the museumexhibition. Information texts areavailable in Italian, English and inBraille, which can be found alongthe lead for the blind on theground, where you will also findbas-reliefs and objects set out tobe touched.

Aujourd’hui un nouveau parcours visuel représentatifs’intègre en complément del’exposition du musée.Les textes sont présents en italien,en anglais et en braille, disposéspour les non voyants le long d’une guide à terre, et sontaccompagnés de bas-reliefs et objets prédisposés pour la manipulation.



Oggi un nuovopercorso visivoevocativo si integra acompletamentodell’esposizionemuseale. I testi presenti initaliano, in linguainglese e in braille,disposti lungo laguida a terra per non vedenti, sonoaccompagnati dabassorilievi e oggettipredisposti per lamanipolazione.

THE CORSICAN RED DEER

The Corsican red deer, scientificname: Cervus elaphus corsicanusErxleben L. 1777, is an ungulatemammal belonging to theCervidae family. It lives in Sardiniaand in the ‘80’s was reintroducedalso to Corsica as a subspecies ofthe European deer (Cervus elaphuselaphus L. 1758). A relative ofpigs, cows, sheep and goats, deerhave never been domesticated.Strong, robust animals, deer wereintroduced to the island about8000 years ago. Ever since ancienttimes, both Neolithic andPalaeolithic men were linked todeer as the many cave paintingsdemonstrate; there are alsoceremonial bronze objects andmany utensils carved in bone. TheCorsican red deer is a ruminantherbivore, eats leaves, buds, twigsand bark. This reserved animal ismostly active at sunset and atnight and in Sardinia it does nothave any natural predators.

LE CERF SARDE

Le cerf sarde, nom scientifiqueCervus elaphus corsicanus Erxleben1777, est un mammifère onguléappartenant à la famille descervidés, présent en Sardaigne etdepuis 1980 réintroduit aussi enCorse, comme sous-espèce du cerfeuropéen (Cervus elaphus elaphusL.1758). Les cerfs, parents desporcs, bœufs, moutons et chèvres,n’ont jamais été domestiqués. Animal fort et robuste, le cerf aété introduit en Sardaigne il y a 8000 ans environ.

Déjà dans l’antiquité, soit l’hommepaléolithique que néolithiqueétait lié au cerf, comme nous lemontrent les dessins dans lesgrottes, les objets de cérémoniesen bronze ou les nombreuxustensiles réalisés en os. Le cerfsarde est un herbivore ruminant,mangeur de feuilles, bourgeons,brindilles et écorce.Cet animal fuyant est actif surtoutau crépuscule et la nuit, et n’a pas en Sardaigne de prédateursnaturels.

IL CERVO SARDO

Il cervo sardo, nome scientifico Cervus elaphus corsicanusErxleben 1777, è un mammifero ungulato appartenente allafamiglia dei cervidi presente, come sottospecie del cervoeuropeo (Cervus elaphus elaphus L.1758), in Sardegna edagli anni ‘80 reintrodotto anche in Corsica.I cervi, parenti di suini, bovini, pecore e capre, non sono mai statiaddomesticati. Animale forte e robusto, il cervo è statointrodotto sull’isola circa 8.000 anni fa. Già dall’antichità sia l’uomo paleolitico sia quello neolitico silegarono ai cervi, come mostrano molte raffigurazioni presentiin grotte, gli oggetti cerimoniali in bronzo o i tanti utensilirealizzati in osso. Il cervo sardo è un erbivoro ruminante,mangiatore di foglie, gemme, ramoscelli e cortecce. Questo schivo animale è attivo soprattutto al crepuscolo enella notte e non ha, in Sardegna, predatori naturali.

Deer are social animals, withobvious morphological andbehavioural differences betweenmales and females. Females live ingroups where the minimum familyunit is represented by an adultfemale, the youngest offspringand the offspring that was bornthe year before. Males live bythemselves or in groups wherethere are strong hierarchicalstructures which, at the end of thesummer ruts, allow for only onestag to mate and to defend thenewly acquired harem. Antlers are shed after the matingseason and are the most visualdiscriminating feature betweensexes.Antlers are shed betweenFebruary and march and theygrow back at the end of July,ready for combat without velvet.As deer grow, antlers branch outmore and more until they reachtheir maximum growth at 8 to 12years. Today, the Corsican red deerlives freely in the areas of CostaVerde-Montevecchio, Sulcis (M. teArcosu-M. te Nieddu) and M.teSettefratelli-M.te Arbu-M.teMininimi and its numbers aregrowing greatly. From about 1000individuals in 1980, today thereare over 6000.

Le cerf est un animal sociableavec d’évidentes différencesmorphologiques et decomportement entre sexes. Les femelles vivent en groupe etchaque unité familiale estreprésentée par une femelleadulte, le dernier né et celui del’année précédente.

Les mâles vivent isolés ou engroupe, et une forte hiérarchiepermettra à un seul, après lescombats de la fin de l’été, des’accoupler et défendre son haremconquis. Leurs bois sont caduqueset représentent l’élément distinctifplus visible entre les deux sexes.Les bois tombent entre février etmars, et repoussent –sans velourset prêts pour le combat, à la fin dejuillet. Avec l’âge les bois seramifient de plus en plus, jusqu’àrejoindre le maximum de leursplendeur entre 8 et 12 ans.Aujourd’hui le cerf sarde vitlibrement dans la zone CostaVerde-Montevecchio, Sulcis (MtArcosu-Mt Nieddu) et MtSettefratelli-Mt Arbu-Mt Mininimi,et sa population est en bonnereprise. Des 1000 exemplaires de1980 nous en comptonsaujourd’hui plus de 6000.



Il cervo è un animale sociale, con spiccate differenzemorfologiche e comportamentali tra sessi. Le femmine vivono ingruppi in cui l’unità familiare minima è rappresentata da unafemmina adulta, l’ultimo nato e quello nato l’anno precedente. I maschi vivono isolati o in gruppi dove una ferrea gerarchiapermetterà ad uno solo, dopo i combattimenti di fine estate, diaccoppiarsi e difendere l’intero harem conquistato. I loro palchi sono caduchi e rappresentano l’elementodiscriminante più vistoso tra i due sessi.Le stanghe cadono tra febbraio e marzo e si ripresentano, privedi velluto e pronte per i combattimenti, alla fine di luglio. Con l’aumentare dell’età il palco si ramifica sempre di più, sino araggiungere il massimo splendore tra gli 8 e i 12 anni. Oggi il cervo sardo vive liberamente nei comprensori di CostaVerde-Montevecchio, Sulcis (M.te Arcosu-M.te Nieddu) e M.teSettefratelli-M.te Arbu-M.te Mininimi e la sua popolazione è insignificativa ripresa. Dai circa 1.000 esemplari del 1980 oggi se necontano oltre 6.000.
