Manager’s Corner, Debbie Fulton, CAM, CMCA, AMS, PCAM

Hello Everyone!

Coffee with Debbie began on January 15th, 2020 and was attended by a few. We discussed and had a visual of the new box system for the gate. Please be sure you have changed the number in your cell phone if you receive calls from the gate. The new number is 941-800-5987. If you would like to sign up to give you the availability to have My Q Business create a pin number for gate access for visitors, please see me so we can confirm your email address is in the gate software.

February’s coffee will be on the 19th. Not sure of the subject at the time of this printing, but I will do a One Call.

Items of Interest: The recycling has changed to all recyclable materials going into one bin. We hope to have Sarasota County pick up the red containers so we will just have blue containers. You should be putting both paper, plastic, and cans in the containers, whether red or blue. Plastic bags are still not recyclable and must go into the garbage.

Please take note that the compactor is picked up to be emptied on Mondays. At this time Waste Management is not here at any certain time. If in doubt if the compactor is there, please hold your trash and take it to the compactor on Tuesday.

If you have Bulk items you still need to see me so I can schedule the pick-up. Items after approval still cannot be put out until Tuesday afternoon after you have confirmed the need for a pickup.

PROJECTS

Buildings 10 is in progress of being painted. Buildings 4, 13, 17, 21 and 26 will also be painted in 2020. You will receive a One Call when the painters begin your building.

Building 10’s roof has been completed. Florida Southern has begun building 13. They will move from there to buildings 14, 18, 19 and lastly 11. In preparation for the re-roofing, if you're not going to be here, you might want to cover some of your furniture because there can be dust stirred up from the activity on the roof. You should also put any delicate items knick-knacks in a safe place as sometimes the vibrations cause items to move and possibly fall off shelves.

Editorial Comment by Terri Kathman, Editor

It looks like winter at Pinestone has gotten off to a great start with huge turnouts at the Friday Night Social and activities every day to keep us busy. The weather has been very cooperative, for the most part! It is always a pleasure reconnecting with our friends from all over when we get together here in the sunshine and share stories of times past and catch up with what is going on in our lives. There seems to be a special bond among those of us here at Pinestone whether it is through the activities we share, the chats we have at the Friday Night Socials or the wave and a smile as we pass each other in the community. Yes, we have our frustrations such as when we pull up to the gate and have to back up and try several times before we can get in or needing help getting out of the pool area because we don’t know the exact procedure for using our fob. Believe me I have gone through both of these frustrations myself. New things always take a little time to become a part of our lives and it does get better - I think! I just know that I am so happy to be a part of the Pinestone family. I think we have quite a few new neighbors so lets not forget to put out the welcome mat and invite them to join us at the Social, the pool or some other activity that we enjoy. Let’s spread the Pinestone spirit and I’m sure you’ll be glad you did.

FACILITIES COMMITTEE

The Facilities Committee along with its Systems, Technology and Security subcommittee has met

2

Page 3: FOR AFTER BUSINESS HOURS EMERGENCIES ONLY ... - …

three times in January in an attempt to get off to a fast start on our many projects. Our main focus this season is getting the drainage issues behind several of our buildings corrected in concert with the Plant and Beautification Committee. Problem areas have been identified and contractor quotes are being obtained. Everyone involved is eager to complete the work before the rainy season.

The Facilities Committee plans to replace several more light switches in the clubhouse with motion detector switches, as was done last year in the clubhouse restrooms. Many other lighting projects are being considered to enhance and standardize the community's lighting. Tony Fischetti is leading those efforts. We are also looking at automatic faucets for the clubhouse restrooms. The Committee has almost completed the replacement and securing of the tennis court windscreens, under the leadership of Bob Collister.

The Sys tems , Technology and Secur i ty subcommittee is busy working to improve the entry gate experience and plan for dealing with the use of private and commercial drones within Pinestone and the need for charging of Electric Vehicles.

Many other potential projects are being assessed by both groups. I would like to thank all the Committee members for their time and hard work in support of the Pinestone community.

Ed Green, Chairman Facilities Committee

Pinestone Facilities Committee

PLANT AND BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE

Happy New Year and welcome back to all of our northern friends. We hope you enjoyed the Holiday decorations and we thank all of those volunteers who helped decorate and remove the decorations. A special thank you goes out to Eric and Jean Johnson for their work in building, painting and re-organizing the shelving in our storage room. Because of their work, Pinestone was able to cancel its contract for off-site storage.

Hopefully you have noticed the landscaping improvements since the Board’s decision to change landscaping companies from LandWise to Bloomings last September. Our committee Chairman, Rick Pluese, was instrumental in making this change using his personal knowledge and experience with landscaping companies in Florida. Rick and his team of volunteers are constantly working on the grounds to make the common areas more beautiful.

Since it is the beginning of a new budget year, we thought we would share some financial information with you. The Total “Grounds” budget this year is approximately $136,000. Out of that money, the Plant and Beautification committee has a budget of roughly $35,000. We have allocated this money as follows: $12,000 for plants (50% will be used for Buildings 11, 12 and 13 this year); $10,000 for mulch; $6,000 for removing and replacing dying trees and palms; $6,000 for removing and landscaping overgrown palmetto beds (this is the second year of a multi-year project); and $1,000 for holiday decorations.

Our Committee also works in collaboration with the Board by providing input and guidance on the utilization of the $101,000 remaining in the “Grounds” budget so that we are all working together towards a common goal while spending our money wisely. The remaining money is allocated as follows: $72,000 for landscaping; $19,000 for tree trimming and $10,000 for irrigation.

3

Page 4: FOR AFTER BUSINESS HOURS EMERGENCIES ONLY ... - …

As we look ahead five years, we plan to address drainage and landscaping behind Buildings 11, 12 and 13, re-landscaping the main entrance way and allocating more funds to tree trimming as our trees mature in both age and size. Please keep in mind that in order to create a natural boundary, this project may take a few years to actually become what the committee has planned. So please be patient as we go through the different phases of growth.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE The Pinestone Social season is in full swing. Your Social Committee has many fun activities planned. Be sure to check our glass cases in the lobby of the Clubhouse as well as the one near the mailboxes. Please mark your calendars with the upcoming events.

The Welcome Back Party (“Home Sweet Home” theme) was a great success. Most people wore something from their state and the food was delicious. Many thanks for all those that pitched in and made this a fun party.

We are pleased to announce that again Jill & Dave Notter will be hosting the Super Bowl Party, February 2nd at 5:30 in the clubhouse. The Super Bowl Pool will be available at the Friday Night Socials, January 24th and January 31st. If you cannot make the Social and wish to participate, call Fred Buglione at 516-551-1107. This will be a Potluck food function. Bring an appetizer or main dish to share as well as your beverage of choice. A Super Bowl Cake will be provided for dessert. Wear your favorite team colors and come join us for a fun evening. Also, for those of you who are interested, the Movie Theater will be open that night to view the game on the big screen. Keep in mind that seating is limited to 32. Viewing is also available on the large TV in the card room.

The Lunch Bunch will get together on Tuesday, February 18th at P. F. Chang’s at 11:30. Sign-up sheet, menu and directions will be posted in the

Library two weeks prior to the event. Please sign up by February 10th so we can provide an accurate count.

On February 14th, we will have a singing impressionist, Chuck Drager, entertain us after the social. He will be performing between 7-9 PM and $5.00 will be collected at the door to cover his expenses. Those that have seen him tell me we are in for a wonderful experience.

The next Thursday night movie will be on February 27th showing Green Book. Show starts at 7:00, but come early as seats are limited. Bring your $1.00 for admission and refreshment.

Don’t forget to put a team together, name it and enjoy the Pub Quiz on March 6th, hosted by Sue & Mike Hosler. This will follow the Friday Night Social. Teams can consist of up to six people and the cost will be $1.00 per person. Sign up begins February 21st at the Friday Night Social and thereafter a sheet will be posted in the library. This is always a popular event so don’t wait to the last minute.

It is only through our volunteers that the Social Committee at Pinestone can offer all these wonderful activities. We are asking you to start thinking about events for next year and how you can share in the fun in participating. Support is always available from the Social Committee so you’ll never feel like you’re on your own.

‘CLASSIC’ MONDAY MOVIES at Pinestone

In February Classic Monday Movies continues to present cinema gems in the Pinestone Theater, hosted by resident and retired film prof, Bill Muzzillo. Each film is not only ‘classic’ in nature, but also restored and

presented in its original format. Many have been saved from deteriorating film-rot, and have not been seen on the big screen for decades. On Monday

4

Page 5: FOR AFTER BUSINESS HOURS EMERGENCIES ONLY ... - …

nights, Bill offers a brief history of the film and encourages audiences to remain afterwards for a Q&A session. Jim Tamblyn assists each week, popping the popcorn and serving beverages. A suggested donation (which includes refreshments) is $1.00 (a buck, four-bits). Showtime is 7:00 p.m. sharp, and audiences are encouraged to get to the clubhouse theater early, as seating is limited and saving seats is not permitted. Here’s the lineup for Mondays in February:

FEB. 3rd – “Bonnie and Clyde” (1967) Every inch a ‘classic,’ this remarkable film stars Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway as Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow who fell in love and robbed banks all at the same time. Based on the real-life Bonnie and Clyde, this powerful movie from the ’60's hasn’t been seen on the screen in decades…until now!

FEB. 10th – “Jaws” (1975) Here it is—one of the greatest adventure-drama-thrillers in all film literature! Steven Spielberg directed this heart-thumping spectacle and changed the way we think about going to the beach. Is it a masterpiece? You decide for yourself. FEB. 17th - “Tootsie” (1982) This is one of the great comedies of the ’80’s, starring Dustin Hoffman, Jessica Lange, Teri Garr, and directed by the great Sydney Pollack. Having recently been transformed into a Broadway musical, this original screenplay is still regarded as one of the funniest (and endearing) films of its day.

FEB. 24th – “12 Angry Men” (1957) Based on a television play, and regarded as one of the greatest courtroom dramas (that doesn’t take place in a courtroom), 12 Angry Men stars some of the most powerful and talented actors in all of American cinema. Henry Fonda, Lee J. Cobb, E.G. Marshall, Jack Klugman, Martin Balsam and Ed Begley are the men who challenge each other (and the viewing audience) into finding the truth of a crime. Simply put, it remains a landmark achievement on film.

OK - Mark your calendars accordingly, and come join the fun!

Library Notes

The library provides information and entertainment for all Pinestone residents. Someone is removing ALL of the magazines leaving none for others to enjoy. Please limit your selections to 3 at a time. Thank you!

Pinestone Book Group On January 17 the group discussed Sarasota’s One Book One Community, The Radium Girls, by Kate Moore. It was noted that the author will be at the Selby Library on January 31.

The next meeting will be February 13 when we will talk about The Giver of Stars by Jo Jo Moyes. It is historical fiction based on the Pack Horse Library initiative where the characters travel into remote Kentucky mountains to bring learning to the most isolated residents.

All meetings will be held at 10:30 in the Card Room. Anyone interested in discussing this book is welcome to attend. For more information call Nancy Alger at 617-771-0440.

Pub Quiz The Pub Quiz is only a month away! This popular event will follow the Friday night Social Hour on March 6th around 7:00 p.m., when everyone is done with the main portion of the meal. Teams may have up to 6 persons and there are only 11 slots for

teams. Last year, all teams were filled, so sign up early. If you would like to play, but aren’t already a part of a team from previous years, there are often spots available on other teams-just add your name. The cost is $1.00 per person, payable that night, with all the monies being distributed to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The quiz consists of 6 verbal rounds and 2 filler sheets. Sign up will begin at the Friday night social on February 21 and then placed on the bulletin board in the library thereafter.

Brian was our Realtor on the purchase of our Pinestone condominium. He listened and found us the perfect condominium. Throughout the sale he worked with us and the seller perfectly. He was knowledgeable, honest, trustworthy and very professional throughout and even after the sale. We love our new home and if you’d like to know more about our experience please feel free to contact us. – Gary & Marilyn Barker #611

We worked with Brian on 4 Pinestone sales and 2 rentals. His honesty, professionalism and knowledge of Pinestone is the best. We wouldn’t trust anyone else for Pinestone real estate. – Ted Unkel #2322

We inherited my father’s Pinestone condo after he passed several years ago. In 2011 we contacted Brian to rent out our Pinestone condo for for several years. This year we decided to sell. Brian kept us well informed of open houses, showings etc. Brian sold the condo and as with the rentals, everything went smoothly. We highly recommend Brian for any of your real estate needs. – Kathleen Centner #310

Brian was very helpful and professional selling my parent’s Pinestone condo. This estate sale occurred after our Mother’s passing. My brother and I live in New Hampshire, he made it easy for us to electronically receive, review and sign offers and fill out all paperwork. He also gave us advice and resources to use in order to donate and sell furniture and home items. We recommend Brian. He has a good knowledge of the Sarasota area market and helped us to expedite our closing. – Chris Webb #421

We listed our condominium with Brian McGreevy of Sarasota Home Realty and were very satisfied. His knowledge and guidance through a challenging market resulted in the smooth and stress free sale of our property. – Mike & Kathy Andersen #1913
