Focus Group Analysis

I have put the first draft edit on a closed Facebook group via a link to my YouTube channel. As well as this I have also included a link to my survey, which I asked everyone to answer. I am going to analyse these results and see if there are any trends, what my target audience is and if there are any improvements that can be made.

This question has mixed answers with 3 people answering women and 5 people answering both. This may be due to the fact that there are some feminine features in the video; therefore some people may have thought it was more relatable to women. As well as this the main character is a women and this is also something that another women could relate to. Overall I do think the song can be related to both as there are no clear cut indications that it is more aimed at just one gender.

This question has been used to find out the target audience for the video. It shows that 8 people thought that the video is aimed at 16-25 year olds. This gives me a clear indication of the target audience and people of this age may be able to relate to it. Although 1 person has answered that the video is targeted at people aged 25-35. This may be due to some of the images used that may be more suited to older people.

100% of the 9 people said that the black and white colour scheme works well. Some of the feedback “More suited to the music and creates a better atmosphere” “It links to the music very well. It creates the atmosphere for the song. It is very effective” “the colour scheme suits the theme of the video”. This shows that it works very effective.

100% of the 9 people said that the images in the video are appropriate for the song. Some of the feedback “The movements are slow which fits in with the slow pace of the music” “They link well with the song, as the song is not clear and does not have a direct link to something, the different abstract images all work very well” “the quick edits make the video seem upbeat and helps to link the images and song together effectively”

100% of 9 people said that the abstract look works well with the song. Some of the feedback “the song is eerie therefore the abstract footage fits perfectly” “Because the pictures are in time with the song” “Fitted the theme and words”. This shows that the abstract look to then video is very successful.

100% of 9 people said that the narrative style works well. Some of the feedback “The narrative works well as there is a story behind the footage” “Yes, it all flows together very nicely. It works well just having the one style as you have chosen to do a very abstract video” “It helps the audience to become engaged with the video and suits the song”

6/9 responses said that the genre of the song is ‘pop’. Some people have said that it is dark or slow pop. Some of the other responses say that the genre is horror/thriller which connects to the theme of darkness throughout the video. As well as this another response is that it is ‘love’ which also connects with the narrative of the song.

100% of the 9 people said that they would recommend the video to a friend. This shows that our video has been very successful with all the people that answered the questionnaire. This indicates that the video is a success.

Some responses “age group relate with the theme of confusion over relationships or liking someone.” “Yes, as the main character in it is a girl.
