To keep your immune system strong you need to be as stress-free as possible, eat a balanced diet and participate in two hours of moderate activity a day. The best possible advice to deal with flu symptoms is to have plenty of rest, drink plenty of fluids and use cold compresses to reduce fever. Flu is a viral infection and viruses DO NOT RESPOND TO ANTIBIOTICS. To prevent dehydration from sweating, people with flu should drink plenty of water, at least 1.75 litres for women and 2.5 litres for men. This can include pure fruit juice if it is diluted with water, as the fruit juice contains natural sugars, useful for energy. Meals should be nutritious but light and include short grain brown rice and porridge oats, to supply energy, plus they contain lots of water as they swell once they are cooked, which helps hydrate the body. Clear chicken soup is also very useful as it introduces proteins and B vitamins into the diet and replaces any salts that may have been lost from the body through excessive sweating. Chicken soup is also very light and comforting. Fish is very light and easy to eat and a great source of protein to help build up the body’s strength. Carrots, spinach and broccoli are essential for vitamins and minerals and plenty of fresh fruit, especially blackcurrants provide vitamin C which will be required for the immune system. Studies using extracts of garlic have shown that it may help to fight of flu as it is one of the most effective anti-viral and anti-bacterial plants available. It has long been used as a decongestant and is also said to ease sore throats, reduce fever and help the body to fight of infection. Acid and Alkaline Foods 80% of our diet should consist of alkalising foods and the other 20% can be made up of acid forming foods, this way we consume enough nutrients to keep the body balanced and neutralise the acidic food. If we aim to keep a mostly alkaline diet, especially more so whilst poorly, our body has a higher chance of a speedy recovery. (See table on next page for foods) Page 1 0f 2

Loss of appetite is one of the symptoms of flu, along with a high temperature, fever, congestion, coughing, shivering, headache, pain in the joints and excessive tiredness.

Beta Glucans

Beta glucans are powerful immune strengthening supplements that help the body defend itself against viral and bacterial invaders, so they are extremely useful when fighting flu symptoms. Beta glucan formulas provide powerful nutrients that help the body repair, regenerate and protect against the onslaught of environmental toxins, pollutions, bacteria and viruses. Beta glucans are a natural substance derived from the cell wall of baker’s yeast. It is a pure extraction and does not contain enough yeast to cause any allergic reactions. Cells in the body involved with the immune system originate from stem cells found in our bone marrow. New cells from bone marrow are produced on an ongoing basis throughout the life cycle however the migration of newly formed immune cells that can promote or produce antibodies is limited and declines with aging. Beta glucans stimulate the production of cells in the bone marrow and yield an increased flow of white blood cells into the blood stream and various lymph organs. The efficiency of beta glucans is widely researched and studied. Beta glucan formulas provide powerful nutrients that help the body repair, regenerate and protect against the onslaught of environmental toxins, pollutions, bacteria and viruses. For further information on Beta Glucans or Ionic Silver which is also an anti-viral and anti-bacterial product please feel free to speak to the front desk staff who will be happy to assist and provide any further information and product prices.
