Flevokust Lelystad the multimodal transhipment port The City of Lelystad, in close consultation with Flevoland province, is currently developing the new port-connected industrial park Flevokust Lelystad. Flevokust will cover approximately 43 hectares, including an inland port situated on the IJsselmeer near Lelystad. This port- connected industrial park will be part of a larger 115-hectare industrial park that is planned for later development. The port and its industrial park are financed by the City of Lelystad, Flevoland province and the Dutch state government. The project is scheduled for completion in 2015. Flevokust Lelystad encompasses a sustainable inland shipping terminal and an industrial park. Port development includes a container terminal and also provides space for transhipment of building materials, wet and dry bulk, mixed cargo and project transport. The port fulfils a national and regional role for nearby economic industrial distribution centres and affords access to the European transportation network via water, railway and road. Water transportation: a sustainable choice Lelystad needs a dedicated transhipment point for inland shipping. Inland shipping transportation is a sound alternative to road trans- portation and in addition provides a solution for congestion on the road network of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. Logistics hub Flevokust has an eminently central location in the Netherlands, offering access to deep water as well as high-speed railway while also connecting directly to the A6 highway and 10km from the rapidly expanding Lelystad Airport. In addition to being a reliable mode of transport, inland shipping contributes to sustainability through energy savings, decreased carbon emissions and reduction of particulate matter. The rate of containers moving through the Dutch seaports is only going to grow in the coming decades. What’s more containers are increasingly going to be transported to the hinterlands by inland shipping and by rail links. The hinterland of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area has an estimated potential of 1.2 million containers per year, most of which are currently moving to the main ports over roads. By combining loading in strategic locations, frequent connections are created that attain the same clockwork regularity as a finely tuned urban underground train system. Inland shipping will connect Flevokust to Amsterdam and Rotterdam; with lines to Antwerp and the German hinterland also appearing. The challenge will be to orchestrate the possible connections so that the expected increase in goods traffic over these modalities is absorbed in a smooth and speedy manner. The goal is to reinforce the natural connections in such a way that the choice for inland shipping becomes as logical as road transpor- tation is now. Flevokust is going to play a role of great importance in this transportation concept. Uitgave oktober 2013 0004-10-2013 FACTSHEET FLEVOKUST ENGELSTALIG.indd 1 02-10-13 14:14

Flevokust Lelystadthe multimodal transhipment port

The City of Lelystad, in close consultation with Flevoland province, is currently developing the new port-connected industrial park Flevokust Lelystad. Flevokust will cover approximately 43 hectares, including an inland port situated on the IJsselmeer near Lelystad. This port-connected industrial park will be part of a larger 115-hectare industrial park that is planned for later development.

Inland shipping transportation is a sound alternative to road trans-portation and in addition provides a solution for congestion on the road network of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area.

Logistics hub

Flevokust has an eminently central location in the Netherlands, offering access to deep water as well as high-speed railway while also connecting directly to the A6 highway and 10km from the rapidly expanding Lelystad Airport.

The goal is to reinforce the natural connections in such a way that the choice for inland shipping becomes as logical as road transpor-tation is now. Flevokust is going to play a role of great importance in this transportation concept.
