Quick ChangeTapered Toolholders Quick-change tapered toolholders are designed and built to increase product quality by accurately positioning cutting tools on production and non-production machines. They feature improved cutting tool centerline accuracy, positive drive ofthe cutting tool and thru-coolant capability.
Each patented tapered toolholder also features a compact design which minimizes spindle to spindle center distance as well as overhang from the bearing diameters to the spindle end, making the system ideal for single and mUltiple spindle stub drilling applications without the use of costly bushing plates.
Six separate body sizes are available to accommodate a wide variety of tool shank diameters beginning at V16-inch (1.5mm) diameter. Each tapered toolholder assembly features a guaranteed accuracy of 0.0005 T.I.R. runout 2-in. from the collet face measured by a zero spindle and class XX gage pin.
Special holders, such as extended lengths and solid soft blank nosepieces for cutter inserts, can also be designed and manufactured to customer specifications.
Quick Change Tapholders 51 Series quick change tapholders are especially designed for applications in which machine feed does not exactly match that produced by t he tap pitch . Parallel float compensates for misal ignment conditions between the hole to be tapped and the machine spindle.

fast tool change to reduce machine downtime. • Close center tooling- the small overall toolhold
er diameter allows too ling on close center distances.
• Sensitive pressure compensation-a compression spring neutralizes feed rate variations to ensure that ideal pressure is applied to the tool at the beginning of the cut.
• Built-in protection-if the drilling operation has been omitted, tool holders collapse within themselves to prevent tool breakage. All tapholder models are available w ith or without compression and tension features.
Hydraulic Chucks Hydraulic expansion chucks guarantee a maximum runout of 0.00012-inches at two times the tool shank diameter. This provides a balanced chip load and increased part quality. Reduced wear pro longs tool life as much as 300 percent.
Hydraulic expansion chucks can be operated at very high speeds. Additional balancing is recommended for speeds above 15,000 RPM. The special resilient sleeve design enables hydraulic expansion chucks to clamp cylindrica l shanks up to 1.250-inch diameter and Weldon flats shanks up to 0.75-inch.
The slimmer design of all hydraul ic chucks permits operation in difficult working situations. Interchangeable collet types can be inserted with variable shank diameters using one hydraulic expansion chuck. The radial runout ofthese hydraulic chucks with collets is less than 0.0002-inch.
The complete line of hydraulic chucks includes CAT, BT, HSK and flange-mounted models. Each chuck style is available with thru -coolant capacity.
Quick-Change Straight ShankToolholders Straight shank tool holders and automotive collettype holders can be used in existing automotive spindles with over-the-spindle adapters to transform any spindle, regardless of original manufacturer, into a quick-change design . Benefits of the system include increased machining efficiency, high accuracy repeatability and quick-change ability .
Each straight shank toolholder assembly includes a body, collet, collet nut and snap ring, positive drive and preset screw assembly as well as a rubber washer for thru-coolant applications. In operation, the tool holder is locked into the spindle by rotating the spind le mounted collar against the Acme left hand thread on the tool holder body.
Three different body sizes are available in each model to accommodate tools ranging from 7/ 64
(2 .7788 mm) to 3J4-inch (19.0500 mm) in diameter. Each straight shank holder series features a guaranteed accuracy within 0.001 T.I.R. runout 2-inches from the collet face . This is measured by a zero spindle and a class XX gage pin.
Over.:rhe-Spindle Adapter AsselDblies Over-the-spindle adapters transform standard high production machine spindles into quick-change adjustable tool adapters. They can be used with straight shank holders, automotive collet type holders or existing automotive shank tool holders by using a standard spindle collar and adapter nut assembly.
Located directly onto the spindle outside diameter and securely fastened by a locking set screw, the over-thespindle adapter assemblies feature a left-hand threaded collar that forces an Acme left hand threaded adapter nut to seat directly against the spindle face. This enables the sp indle to take the thrust generated by the tool, el im inating any thrust being directed to the set screw.
When loosened, the mechanically activated over-the -spindle adapter
(standard or stub model) forces chips away from the spindle face . Details are hardened and ground for consistent accuracy and are available to f it every machine builder's standard spindles.
Collets Precision collets feature a single angle design D.D. with a ground and lapped I.D. manufactured to within 0.0001inches ofthe required tool shank diameter. A single split through the collet allows tool clamping without losing accuarcy, unlike other collets with mul tiple splits which lose accuracy while allowing wider tool shank ranges. Six individual col let sizes are available to accommodate tools ranging from 1/16
inch to Pis-inches in diameter. These collets can be used in conjunc
tion with tapered and stra ight shank tool holders or w ith other tool holder designs where clamping accuracy is essential.
Precision Spindles In addition to quick-change tool holders and accessories, FLTool Holders has years of experi ence with the very close tolerance work required for sp indle manufacturing today.

Gun DrilllReamer Toolholders Gun drill/reamer holders provide a guaranteed accuracy of 0.0001 T.I.R., two inches from the front face of the collet. This toolholder is available in four separate sizes to accommodate tool shank sizes of V4, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16, V2, 9/16, 5/8,
1V16 and 3f4-inches. The basic construction of the holder assembly includes
a Jacobs type beveled tooth nosepiece, a precision tapered collet and nut assembly that securely clamps and unclamps the tool from the holder and an internal flat that provides positive drive for the tool. Each tool holder also features thru-coolant capability and radial positioning for diamond tipped tools.
Toolsetting Fixtures FL-Tool Holders manufactures and stocks various kinds of toolsetting fixtures. Among the systems available are turret type, flange type, slide type, electronic and indicator. SOV tapered adapters, replaceable bushings and special applications can be designed and built to accommodate specific customer requirements.

Quick-Change Tapered Tool Holders Increase Positioning Accuracy to Improve Product Quality Quick-change tapered
Tool holder Assemblies are designed and built to increase product quality by positioning cutting tools accurately on production and non-production machines . The tapered tool holder assembly is available in six separate body sizes to accommodate a wide variety of tool shank diameters beginning at 1/16-inch (1.5 mm) diameter.
Each patented tool holder features a precision full length tapered 0 .0 . shank (3.500 inches/ foot on diameter) and I. O. tapered collet seat (10° included) to locate the cutting tool centerline accurately.
Positive drive of the tool is achieved by a non-rotating square drive that accepts the tool tang as well as an adjustable preset screw for adjusting tool height.
Mounted to the spindle, the collar is rotated in a clockwise direction to mate with the Acme left hand thread on the tool holder body seating the taper into the spindle. (See photo illustration on page 3.)
The tapered tool holder's compact design minimizes spindleto-spindle center distance as well as overhang from the spindle end to the bearing journal diameters. Thru-coolant
Capability is provided for in each tool holder body size.
These features make tapered tool holders ideally suited to meet the demands of today's manufacturing specifications for multiple spindle applications . Additional services include training, designing and building specials , modification of standards and spindle manufacturing.

To load the quick·change tapered tool holder ,simply inert the holder into the corresponding machine tool spindle.

Keep advancing the tapered shank holder into the spindle until it comes to a stop. At this point, the Acme left hand thread will be positioned against the spindle collar.
Rotate the spindle mounted collar in a clockwise direction until tapers are seated. Tighten securely with spindle collar wrench.

Straight Shank and Collet-Type Toolholders and Straight shank and collet-type tool holders can be used in existing automotive spindles with over-the-spindle adapters to transform any spindle, regardless of original manufacturer, into a quick-change design. Benefits of the systems include increased machining efficiency, high accuracy repeatability and quick-change ability.
Three different body sizes are available in each model to accommodate tools ranging from %4 (2.7788 mm) to %-inch (19.0500 mm) in diameter. Straight shank tool holders feature a guaranteed accuracy within 0.001 T.LR. runout 2-inches from the collet face. This is measured by a zero spindle and a class XX gage pin.
Each straight shank and collettype tool holder assembly includes a body, collet, collet nut and snap ring, tool holder seal and snap ring, positive drive and a preset screw assembly as well as a rubber washer and rear coolant seal for thru-coolant applications. OPERATION The close fit of the toolholder O.D. to the spindle LD. enables accurate and secure positioning of the over-the-spindle adapter collar. Mounted over an existing spindle, the collar is rotated in a clockwise direction to mate with the Acme left-hand thread on the toolholder body, retaining the holder intothespindle. Counterclockwise rotation of the collar forces the toolholder body out of the spindle.
Each patented toolholder series features an automotive straight shank and an LD. tapered collet seat that accurately locates the cutting tool centerline, and adjustable preset screw and drive assembly which pro-
vides tool height adjustment and positive drive to the tool. The compact design minimizes spindle-to-spindle center distance and overhang from the spindle end to the bearing journal diameters.
A complete line of optional accessories complements the straight shank holder and collet type toolholder. They include toolsetting fixtures, holding adapters for tool change, spindle cleaning swabs and spindle collar wrenches. FL:Tool Holders

Over-The-Spindle Adapter Assemblies
Over-the-spindle adapters transform standard high production machine spindles into quickchange adjustable tool adapters. They can be used with straight shank tool holders, automotive collet type tool holders or existing automotive shank toolholders by using a standard spindle collar and adapter nut assembly.
Located directly onto the spindle outside diameter and securely fastened with a locking set screw, the over-the-spindle adapter assemblies feature a left-hand threaded collar that forces an Acme left-hand threaded adapter nutto seat directly againstthe spindle face. This enables the spindle to take the thrust generated by the tool, eliminating any

FL-Tool Holders recommends a +.0000/-.0005 inch tolerance on tool shank to ensure maximum accuracy and clamping performance (up to -.0015 inch tolerance is acceptable if necessary). Shank taper should not exceed .0002 inch.

Straight shank tool holders can be used in existing automotive spindles with over-the-spindle adapters to transform any spindle, regardless of original manufacturer, into a quick-change design. Benefits of the system include increased machining efficiency, high accuracy repeatability and quickchange ability.
The 1 3/8" body size will accommodate tools ranging from 7/64" (2.778 mm) to 3/4" (19.05 mm) in diameter. Straight shank tool holders feature a guaranteed accuracy within 0.0001 T.I .R. runout two inches from the collet face. This is measured by a zero spindle and a class XX gage pin .
The close fit of the tool holder 0.0 . to the spindle I. D. enables accurate and secure positioning of the over-the-spindle adapter collar. Mounted over an existing spindle, the collar is rotated in a
Clockwise direction to mate with the Acme lefthand thread on the tool holder body, retaining the holder securely against the spindle face . This eliminates the rocking condition seen is short taper designs. Counterclockwise rotation of the coliar forces the tool holder body out of the spindle .
Eac h patented tool holder assembly features a straight shank with an 1.0. tapered collet seat that accurately locates the c utting tool centerline and an adjustable preset screw and drive assembly which provides tool height adjustment and positive drive to the tool. A sealed col let and rear coolant seal for thru-coolant applications are available .
. The compact design minimizes spindle to spindle center distance and overhang from the spindle end to the bearing journal diameters.

FL quick-change gun drill/reamer holders, designed and built by FL-Tool Holders, are available in four different pilot type models.
The pilot model holder is used where radial positioning of the tool is required and provides a guaranteed accuracy of .000050 T.I.R., one inch from the front face of the collet. The basic construction of the gun drill/reamer assembly includes a Jacobs type beveled tooth nosepiece, a tapered collet and nut assembly that securely clamps and unclamps the tool from the holder, and an internal flat that provides positive drive for the tool.
In operation, counterclockwise rotation of a chU9k key wrench causes the beveled tooth nosepiece to rotate in a counterclockwise direction. As the nosepiece turns, the internal collet and nut assembly moves downward into the tapered end of the tool holder causing the collet to constrict and the tool to be tightened along the entire length of the clamping surface. To unlock the chuck and remove the tool , a simple clockwise rotation of the key wrench against the nosepiece is required.

Shrink-Fit straight-shank tool holders can be used in existing automotive spindles where rigidity and concentricity are critical. Three separate sizes are available to accommodate tool shank diameters from .2500 (6 .35 mm) to .7500 (19 .05 mm) . All tool shank diameters under .5000 (12 .70 mm) must be solid carbide .
The close fit of the holder 00 to the spindle 10 enables accurate and sec ure positioning of the overthe-spindle adapter collar . Mounted over and existing spindle, the collar is rotated in a clockwise direction to mate with the Acme left-hand thread on the collar, retaining the holder securely against the spindle face . This eliminates the rocking condition seen in all short taper designs. Counterclockwise rotation of the collar forces the tool holder body out of the spindle .
The 10 of the shrink-fit straight-shank holder is slightly smaller than the cutting tool shank diameter. A heat induction unit is used to quickly heat the holder end of the shrinker, expanding the bore's inside diameter. The tool shank then slips easily into the holder and as the holder cools, the resulting thermal contraction exerts tremendous, uniform pressure around the entire surface of the tool shank. No moving parts, no accessories, just total concentric gripping strength .
The average gripping force. imposed on the cutting tool shank is 10,000 pounds, many times greater than that of a collet, milling or hydraulic chuck. Concentricity of the straight-shank shrink-fit holder is .0003 with the cutting tool set in the shrunk condition, extending tool life by up to 1 00% or more.

Shrink-Fit tapered tool holders are designed and built to improve product quality and tool life on production and non-production machines.
