WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
CALL TO THE JOURNEY OF LENT
Leader: The season of Lent is here.
ALL: Let us recommit ourselves to following the way of Jesus – the
One who came to bring good news to the poor, hope to the
struggling, freedom to all from whatever holds them captive
in body, mind and spirit, and fullness of life to all people.
HYMN “Called as Partners in God’s Service” (Please Stand)
NCH #495 Black
OPENING PRAYER (together) (Please Stand)
O God, You sent Jesus to teach and show us the way to You and to the
life You call us to. Lead our minds and hearts to follow him there.
Help us to go no matter what the path looks like. Help us to go when
there are no clear signs to guide or inspire us along the way. Help us to
go when the gain is unseen or uncertain.
Help us to go and keep going, Holy One, through this season of Lent and
beyond. Because when we go, we find spiritual strength, resilience and
wisdom.
And so together, we say to You now the words Jesus – the One who
calls us to go with him - gave us…
THE LORD’S PRAYER (Please Stand) Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will
be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us
our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the
glory forever. Amen.
GLORIA PATRI: (Please Stand) Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the
beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

spiritual community help him find courage and strength in difficult times,
experience the joy that You created him to know, and the fullness of life
that comes from following the example of Jesus. Amen.
CHOIR ANTHEM This Touch of Love – Michael Burkhardt (1957-)
This touch of love, this taste of peace, how can it last and still increase?
I cannot bear to have this air of wonder cease.
This happy feast, this friendly bond, how can I keep it long beyond
This fleeting hour, this surge of pow’r, this treasure found?
Christ Jesus, you are what I need, the Bread and Wine on which I feed,
No friend so true, no life so new I’m rich indeed.
O Savior, now my spirit raise, give new direction to my ways,
In all I view, in all I do, to give you praise.

PRAYER OF DEDICATION (together) (Please Stand)
Holy One, as we begin this time of Lent together, we offer back to You
this small part of all You have blessed us with. We offer it knowing that
giving for the sake of Your ways and Your people is part of the path that
Jesus calls us to – part of the way we help You bring about heaven on
earth. Amen.
THE GOSPELS John 2:1-11
(New Revised Standard Version) 1On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the
mother of Jesus was there. 2 Jesus and his disciples had also been invited
to the wedding. 3 When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to
him, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what
concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His
mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 Now standing there were six stone water jars for the Jewish rites of
purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to them,
“Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 He said
to them, “Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward.” So they
took it.
9 When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not
know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water
knew), the steward called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone
serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests
have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now.” 11 Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed
his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

LENTEN THEME and MESSAGE SERIES
Beginning TODAY, join us each Sunday throughout the
season of Lent as we explore this year’s theme,
“Crossroads”. Each week we will explore a story from the
Gospels of individuals or groups whose life was challenged
or changed by their encounter with Jesus over the course of
his ministry. We will also examine the choice or choices that encounter
left them with going forward, and how those choices reflect the ones we
are given to make in our time and place.
STARTING THIS WEEK FOR LENT - “THE WALK” and
“PRAYER and MEDITATION”
During Lent, we will also be offering two weeknight opportunities for
spiritual growth and exploration:
“The Walk”, based on the book of the same name by noted minister and
author Adam Hamilton, will explore the major “pillars” of traveling the
Christian spiritual path, such as Worship, Prayer and Service, each
session focusing on a specific pillar. Please note that you do not need
to buy or have the book for this class. Also, each meeting will be
largely its own entity, so you are welcome to come to as many or as
few of the four sessions as you wish. Tuesdays: March 3, 10, 24 and 31
Time: 7:00-8:15pm
Location: Chapel Conference Room
“Prayer and Meditation” is an opportunity to come together for a time
of quiet reflection, sharing of Scripture, and the offering of any prayer
intentions that are on participants’ hearts and minds.
Wednesdays: March 4, 11, 25 and April 1
Time: 7:00-7:40pm
Location: FPCC Sanctuary
WEEKLY BIBLE STUDY will be held on Thursday
afternoon, 4:00 to 5:30 PM, at the home of Vin Terrill,
37 Beach Street Manchester. All are welcome to join us!

Our WEEKLY FOOD OFFERINGS will now go to the Grace
Center. The Missions Committee will be suggesting a particular item
each month, but be assured, any appropriate non-perishable breakfast
or luncheon item will be appreciated. Collection baskets are found in
the Narthex and the Chapel (by the office.) At the Unitarian
Universalist Church in Gloucester the Grace Center welcomes the
homeless and others in need of a warm spot in which to spend their
day time. Good meals are also offered five days a week.
March: Syrup
The book for our March discussion is “The Dutch
House” by Ann Patchett. Meeting Monday, March 30
at Mary Lumsden’s home, 18 Woodcrest Rd.
Manchester.
From the New York Times bestselling author
of Commonwealth and State of Wonder, comes Ann Patchett’s most
powerful novel to date: a richly moving story that explores the
indelible bond between two siblings, the house of their childhood,
and a past that will not let them go. The Dutch House is the story of a
paradise lost, a tour de force that digs deeply into questions of
inheritance, love and forgiveness, of how we want to see ourselves
and of who we really are. Amazon
This is a time for church members as well as non-members to come
together and engage with one another, build relationships, and share
in discussion of books that are of interest to people of various
backgrounds. We have fun visiting, discussing the book and sharing
stories. Each month there is a new host, who provides light snacks,
beverages and dessert. The host chooses the book for their month.
MISSIONS’ CONCERT Sunday. March
22 at 3:00 PM, in the FPCC Sanctuary. Ashley Storrow and Putnam Smith, known
as The Early Risers, have joined Lelly
Smith singing in our Choir on occasion.
Here is a review of their gigs in other
places. Please plan to come for this
Missions Concert Event. There will be a volunteer donation
opportunity to support Disaster Relief through Church World
Service.
The Early Risers are a folk duo made up of Ashley Storrow and
Putnam Smith. Both rootsy and lyric-driven, their original songs feature
close vocal harmonies and arrangements on a wide array of instruments:
banjo, guitar, mandolin, piano, and shruti-box. After pursuing separate
solo singer/songwriter careers, they joined forces in 2015 and have since
toured across the country, from Maine to Texas to California to
Vancouver, BC.
They have played notable venues such as Club Passim, the Falcon Ridge
Folk Festival, and the High Plains Public Radio concert series. Their
debut album, “Making Life Sweet” climbed to #1 on the Folk DJ charts
(November, 2019), with 4 songs in the top 10 most played songs. As
said by the folk music blog, Wise Madness: “...it’s how the band makes
you feel. Their music is comfort food.”
The next meeting of the Jordan Peterson Discussion
