Council News
Dear Brothers and Sisters In Christ
The month of October brings the Church to the festival of the Reformation. In the 1500s a German monk by the name of Martin Luther encouraged the Church to preach the Good News or the Gospel that we are saved by Grace alone God's
unconditional love given to us by Jesus death on the Cross for our sins and the
hope of the Resurection and the gift of eternal life. For years Lutherans and Catholics have disagreed over who is right. In the 60's a group of Catholics and
Lutherans called Lutherans and Catholics Together began to share what they
shared together. The Mass was celebrated in English. As we approach the 500th Anniversary of Luther then Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson talked and encouraged
the Pope to allow Catholics and Lutherans the opportunity to share Holy
Communion Bishop Elizabeth Eaton has continued the dialogue. A book published by Augsburg Fortress called from Conflict to Communion covers this
topic. After Darlene finishes her course on the
Catechism I am proposing leading a discussion on this book during Sunday School.
May the Lord continue to bless our time together.
