Chapter 9: Speak to Me About Today – Using Powerful Performance Feedback and Coaching

Exercises: This chapter will review the Fire Up! Ignite component of millennial management by

using the Performance Feedback tool.

You will be provided with information about 4 employee situations for which you

must provide effective performance feedback. Use the copies of the Performance

Feedback tool provided in this PDF and complete one for each feedback event.

Complete this activity before moving on. An extra Performance Feedback tool has been provided

for you to copy and use with your actual employees.

Creating an Action Plan is a critical component of implementing the Fire Up! Process. To access

Feedback Practice Situations:

1. Jeanne is regularly late for the weekly staff meeting, and once at the meeting is ill-

prepared. Her team mates are upset with her behavior. Provide powerful feedback to

Jeanne.

2. Mike is the delivery employee for your company. Today, Mitor Corporation, a customer,

called to compliment Mike on his delivery, professionalism and kindness to one of their

employee. Mike not only patiently waited to unload the delivery, but moved the product to

where the customer needed it. He also helped a Mitor employee with a car problem. The

owner of Mitor Corporation called to applaud Mike. Provide powerful feedback to Mike.

3. Jake did a great job creating three strong performance expectation implementation plans.

He did great research and built strong plans. His plan’s target of reducing overtime

expenses in his department is well under his planned 2% reduction. He seems to have lost

his focus with his plan. Provide powerful feedback to Jake.

4. Ann manages the retail store and until lately has always generated great performance and

run a successful workplace. Lately, many employees have been leaving; she has a hard

time keeping any employees, let alone the good ones. Word in the store is that Ann is too

critical and hard to work for; employees don’t like her. She constantly criticizes them in

front of customers and is not afraid to raise her voice. Provide powerful feedback to Ann.
