film packages – psychological thriller
TRANSCRIPT
Keeping a similar font type throughout the film package is very important in the successful marketing of a film – this helps the audience recognise the brand and associate this with the film.
Psychological thrillers represent a kind of hyper-reality – extreme cases of psychological disturbance and their effects. This kind of representation is expected by the audience, who will have chosen to watch a psychological thriller due to this. This representation has to be maintained throughout the package to make it a coherent product.
Using an institution that is well known for the genre of film you are producing – in our case, a psychological thriller – is important in creating a coherent product. Audience expectations of a certain company will help a product sell – if a company has a large audience already built up because of popular films, a new product is much more likely to be successful.
The narrative needs to be one that is shown coherently through the package – having a poster that is in no way linked to the trailer for a film will confuse the audience and mean they cannot identify with the film across media platforms, meaning that the film package is not going to be successful.
The audience help to create a coherent product because their expectations are outlined before production through their reactions to similar media products. It is clear that their needs to be a strong motif throughout the package, so that the audience can link the media products together.
