Narrative Structure

Our film is to follow a single strand narrative structure, as our storyline develops in a straightforward sequential time. As each event follows the one before. For my film our storyline is as follows:

Girl and Boy together - boy leaves girl – girl gets kidnapped – boy realises girl is missing – villain is known- boy aims to save girl – conflict begins between villain and boy- boy saves girl.

These events are linked by cause and effect, and therefore follow Todorov’s theory of narration

Narrative structure

The plot however is not led by a single character but told through the view of three view points, meaning that the hero’s role may not be completely central.

Our narrative is open-ended as it concludes with a cliff-hanger, leaving the audience to interpret what would happen next.

How our film will look

Cinematography- In order to properly allow our film to look authentic and typical of our genre, we have chosen to incorporate a variety of framing, shot distance and camera movements, that are used in psychological thrillers. These will then be useful in the development of our Mise-en-scene

These includes use of close ups to show the raw emotion being shown by our characters in times of intensity. Also, dynamic shots when there is something moving like a moped, this helps advance the pace of our film.

Steady cam and tracking shots will be used in order to put us in the footsteps of a particular character; this is also dependent on the setting of the scene as to whether the camera movement is steady or tracking

How film will look

Mise-en-scene- when looking at the mise-en-scene of our film we are focusing on every aspect of the film that we see, such as movement of characters, space and spatial awareness, lighting, the location and costume design.

Our film, in order to stay true to our conventions will evidently show details like

Dark setting, usually a forest or small town at night time Eerie and empty surroundings Darkness, hardly ever any sunlight, grey Dreary weather conditions, e.g. snow, rain, storms Simple and realistic costumes Metaphorically relatable characters who are anti heroes
