PracticalAssessmentProcessPreviously,andinmostcountriesaroundtheworld,practicalassessmentswerecompletedliveoncourse.Youwereexpectedtoprocessalloftheinformationfromthecourseandthenre-produceitduringanassessment‘oncourse’,oftenwithyourpeersasplayers.Thisprocesshadanumberofissues:

- Theplayers(orfellowcoaches)usedintheassessmentwerenotyourteam,sowhateveryouplannedanddeliveredwouldnotbearelevantfootballproblem(ormaynotevenbeaproblem).

- Asitwasnotyourteam,youdidnotknowthenames,positions,strengthsandweaknessesoftheplayersyouwereworkingwith.

- Youwereassessedinafalsesituationbasedonknowledgeandcompetenciesthatyoumaystillhavebeenworkingtowardsmastering

Assuch,thedecisionwasmadetomovetovideoassessments“post-course”foralladvancedcourses.Thisremovesalloftheissuesabove,asyouareassessedinyourownenvironment,withyourownplayers,whenyoufeelready.(ForallcoursesbeingcompletedafterJune2016,Candidatesmustcompleteaninitialassessmentwithin6monthsofcompletingthecourse,andtheymustcompletetheassessmentprocesswithintwoyearsoftheyearofthecourse.SeeAssessmentdeadlinesbelow).Italsohelpswithyourlearninganddevelopmentasyouhavetheopportunitytoreflectonyourvideopriortosubmittingit.AssessmentDeadlinesCandidateshaveunlimitedpracticalassessmentopportunitiesinwhichtomeetthecompetencylevelwithinatwoyearperiod.However,asnotedabove,candidatesmustsubmitaninitialassessmentwithin6monthsofcompletingthecourse.Thefollowingtableoutlinestheprocessforthenext4years:-

DeterminingyourSessionTopicYourassessmentshouldbeatruereflectionofyourapplicationoftheCoachExpertiseModelandthelinkbetweentheMATCHandTRAINING.Thereforewenolongersethypotheticalassessmenttopicsbutexpectyouasacoachtodetermineyourown‘footballproblem’.CoacheswhohavecompletedtheYouthCLicenseshouldcompleteasessionthatrelatestotheagegroupofyourteam.Ifyoucoach9to13yearolds,thenyoushouldcompleteaSkillAcquisition(SAP)sessionforyourassessment.Ifyoucoach9-17yearolds,thenyoushouldcompleteaGameTraining(GT)sessionforyourassessment.IfyouhavedoneboththeSeniorandYouthCLicenses,thenyoushouldcompleteaGTsessionforyourseniorassessmentandaSAPsessionforyourYouthassessment,regardlessoftheagegroupyouarecoaching.Therefore,usingtherelevantFFASelf–AssessmentSessionPlanyoumustfollowthefollowingprocess:(TheSelfAssessmentSessionPlannerscanbefoundherehttp://www.footballaustralia.com.au/getinvolved/coaching/resources)

1. ForaGameTrainingorPerformancePhasesession:BasedonanalysisofyourteaminarecentgameoryouranalysisofanopponentforanupcominggameDEFINETHEFOOTBALLPROBLEMthatyouwilltryandaddressinthissession.

PLAYERTASKS/ACTIONS:Thesearethechosenasthekeythingstheplayersmustlearntodotodevelopproficiencyinthespecificaspectofthecoreskill.COACHESCUES:EssentiallythesameasinGameTraining.(Provideshintstohelptheplayersmaketheappropriatedecisionsintryingtodowhatyouhaveaskedthem).However,theSkillCoachmustdeveloptheartofdevisingarangeofsmartcatchycuesfortheyoungplayerstohookonto.Thisisalsousefulfordealingwithsituationswheretheplayerdoesnotrespondtooneormoreofthecuesyouhavetried.Haveplentyofvariationsupyoursleeve.STEPUP,STEPDOWN:TheSkillCoachplansinanticipationofasituationwheremostoftheplayerseitherfindtheSkillTrainingexercisetoohard(stepdown)ortooeasy(stepup).Theyarepreparedtomodifyaspectsoftheexercise,butdoesnotsetupacompletelydifferentexercise.Onceyoucompletedyoursessionplan,youshouldconductyoursession.TheGameTraining/SkillTrainingcomponentofyoursessionplanshouldbevideoedandwillbenolessthan20minutesandnomorethan25minutesinduration.Youarewelcometoconductthewholesessionwithyourteamofcourse,butyouonlyneedtosubmit20-25minutesoftheGameTraining/SkillTrainingcomponent.(Seethesectionbelowonguidelinestovideoyoursession).Thevideomustbeofagoodstandard,wherebothsoundandvisionareofthehighestquality.Aminimumofonethirdofthe(lengthofthe)pitchmustbevisible.ForGKcourses,thebothballandGoalkeepermustbeinview.Youmustbeawarethatifthevideoisnotattherequiredstandardtheassessmentwillnotbecarriedout,andyouwillberequiredtoundertakethefilmingagain.(Seetheguidelinesbelowonhowtovideoyoursession)ForALLcoursesbeingcompletedafterJune2016,candidateshave6monthstosubmittheirinitialassessmentattempt.Iftheyaredeemednotcompetent,candidatesthenhaveafurther18monthstogaincompetency,andpassthecourse.Ifthecandidatefailstosubmitanassessmentwithin6months,orgaincompetencywithin2years,theywillbedeemedtohavefailedthecourse.Ifso,inordertogaintheAdvancedLicenceatthisleveltheywouldneedtoattendawholenewcoursefromthebeginning.Onceyouhaveconductedandfilmedthesession,youshouldundertakeaself-analysis,usingthequestionsonthesessionplannerasaguide.SummaryoftheProcess:Tocompletethevideoassessmentyoushould:

4. Youwillreceivefeedbackwithin3weeksAssessmentCostsThereisnocostforvideoassessment.AssessmentDecisionAppealIfacandidateisunhappywiththeirassessmentdecisiontheymayappealtotheFFANationalCoachDevelopmentManagerasoutlinedinthecoursedocumentation.

GuidelinestovideoyoursessionWhenrecordingyourpracticalassessmentitisimportantthatyourvideocapturestheactionclearlysotheassessorcanmakeasoundjudgmentonyourcoachingcompetency.Whenrecordingthevideoconsiderthefollowing:Securingasuitablevantagepointwhereyouareabletocapturetheactiontoincludeatleast2linesofplayandtheball.Toachievethis,anelevatedpositionsetbackfromthetouchlineisbest.Ifyouareunabletogainanelevatedposition,reviewyourvideoandaskyourself:-

Isthepictureclear?Doesitcaptureatleast2linesofplayandtheball?Isitsteadyandinfocus?ForGKcourses,canIseetheballandGKatalltimes?

Needlesstosaythesequalitypicturesalsoneedqualitywords.Addingaudiotoyourvideoisessential.Thiscanbedoneinanumberofways:-

• Usingaremotemicrophonelinkedtoyourvideocamera.Thesecanbehiredbutcanbeexpensive.

• BorrowingthetelecommandsystemfromyourMemberFederation(FFAhavesuppliedeachMF

withatelecommandsystem).Youmayberequiredtoplaceadepositandarrangetopickupthesystembutitisasimplewaytoaddaudiotoyourvideo.AskyourmemberfederationTDregardingthisoption.

• Synchronizeyourvideowithaudiocapturedonanexternalrecordingdevice(iPhoneetc.)and

addthistoyourvideo-seeguidebelow.Ifonceyouhavereviewedyourvideoyoufeelitisattherequiredstandardthensubmititasdirected.Ifuponreceipttheassessordeemsthevideoisofsuchapoorqualitythatitisnotsuitableforassessmentthenyouwillberequiredtoresubmitit.Thiswillnotconstituteafail.

ThispurposeofthissectionistoexplaintheFFAAssessmentformandhowFFAAssessorswilluseittoassessyourpracticalsession.UsingtheFFAAssessmentForm,yourassessorwillprovidedetailedconstructivefeedbackbasedonthecompetencies/areasoutlinedbelow.

Detailedfeedbackwillbeprovidedregardlessofthequalityofthesession.Wecanalllearn,andfeedbackiscrucialtothelearningprocess.
