The 2019 theme, for Nova Scotia is: Our History is Your History
This theme recognizes the unique story of African Nova Scotians and how this story is interwoven throughout the past, present and future of all Nova Scotians. The theme reminds us that when we all acknowledge and understand the truths of our shared history we will be able to facilitate positive change in Nova Scotia.

Hungry for Knowledge
not
Hungry for Food. PRMS offers a Breakfast
Program every morning,
menu items include fresh
muffins, mini quiche, toast
and homemade jelly,
cheese, fresh fruit, cereal
and milk.
When you realize that 60% of learning happens before lunch, it becomes clear why breakfast is indeed the most important meal of the day.
When children get a balanced meal in a positive, stimulating environment, there are marked improvements in:
Behaviour and concentration Academic performance Social skills, self-confidence and the ability to interact with peers and adults Overall interest in the subjects being taught Incidents of bullying
PRMS VOLUNTEERS
Adults looking to volunteer at PRMS should have Criminal Record
and Child Abuse checks on file. We look for volunteers to coach,
chaperone and help out at school. We could use volunteers for
the dance on Thursday, February 7th.

Debating Club

Club travelled into Sacred Heart School
in Halifax for their first event. Students
were divided into groups and had to
debate the pros and cons of British
Parliamentary System.
The PRMS boys basketball team is having a great
season; placing first in their pool. Playoffs start
soon—good luck to both teams!
Feb 18—NS Heritage Day—Maud Lewis Maud Lewis was born in 1903 in South Ohio, Nova Scotia and lived her
entire life within a one hour drive of her birthplace .
Although Maud was born with a number of birth defects, she was a happy
child. Her mother instilled in her love of music and art. Maud’s first known
artistic endeavors were hand-painted Christmas cards which she sold
door-to-door with her mother for five cents each.
When her parents died Maud received none of the proceeds from the sale
of the estate, and she had very few personal possessions.
Maud and her husband lived a tiny shack-like structure very close to the road. They lived in poverty, without indoor plumbing and with only oil lamps for light. The wood stove was their only source of heat for both cooking and living. Most of their money came from the sale of Maud’s art-work. The house was so bright and colorful many people stopped on the road to admire the painted daffodils on the windows, bluebirds on the storm doors and the butterflies and swans on the inside door. Later, tour-ists and travelers from all walks of life were attracted by her hand-painted sign offering her wares for sale.
After Maud died, the Province of NS purchased the house, restored it and moved it to the Art Gallery in Halifax.

Grade 6s at Greenwood Flight Museum During the week of January 21st, all the
grade 6 students attended an interactive
aviation tour at the 14 Wing Flight Museum.
The students saw inside a cockpit, where
maps are used to find submarines. They
learned about torpedoes, students also
learned the four aspects of flight and how it
impacts a parachute and rescue missions.
They also saw a number of large motors and
had a trip in the flight simulator.
Be sure to ask your student what was most
interesting at the
Flight Museum. Lloyd Graham presented two teachers with a plaque and
hardcover book to recognize that PRMS has been attending
the Flight Education Program for 17 years.
