Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

(RCIA)

As the liturgical year calls us to journey with Christ, following His baptism in the Jordan River, we are reminded that as baptized Christians we too are called to live the mission of Jesus. We are anointed to “bring good news to the poor, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners.” So, how are we doing as a parish on this “mission of Jesus?” One way we might live this mission is to invite someone we know who might be interested in learning more about the Catholic Church to inquire about the RCIA process here at St. Cecilia.

And, in case you are not aware, the RCIA process receives interested persons at any time during the year. So, if you are an adult, or know of an adult or child over the age of 7 years interested in becoming a Catholic and celebrating the sacraments of Baptism or Confirmation and First Communion, please contact us at [email protected]

This year's participants are (from l to r), Mary Marsh, Naomi Bratsch-Prince, Margit Herrmann, Maddie Lynch, Erin Sellberg, Jack Kazwell and Elanna Neppel. Their prayer partners are Fr. SCRIP

PLANNED GIVING

As we consider our lives as Christians, it is good to ask ourselves if we are being stewards of our Church. Consider a plan, perpetual gift of financial stewardship to our endowment. Not only are we stewards of our time, talent and treasure, we are also stewards of the assets that gave us the treasure and opportunity to develop our talents. Contact Frank Oppold (515-290-1163) or the parish office for more information.

We will be selling Scrip after masses the weekend of March 5 and 6. For all your Spring planting needs we will have Holub Greenhouses gift cards ($10) available to purchase.

The Grateful Sharing, Joyful Living program and the recent effort to secure financial commitments address a Key Objective of the Parish Strategic Plan and our practical need to anticipate adequate financial support for the coming year. The Key objectives are to increase parish registration, sacramental preparation, financial contributions, and parishioner involvement. Adequate financial support is extremely important when we deliberate what services to parishioners and others are needed and how to plan and budget appropriately for the same. With the support of the parish Stewardship Committee, Finance Council and Pastoral Council, a request for all to commit to a specific financial commitment for support of the parish in the coming year was mailed to all 1638 parish households. Thank you to everyone who returned a completed commitment card. As Father Jim said in his Thank you letter, the results of this stewardship drive confirm our commitment as a community and a desire to continue our mission.

Total responses: 138 = 8.4% Total commitments received: 134 Range: $50/week decrease to $80 per week increase Average weekly commitment = $56.67 Median weekly commitment = $36.00 Grand total committed so far = $311,682

The 8.4% participation rate to date is less than the 18.0% rate achieved last year and far less than the 100% we were aiming for but we are not discouraged. We understand that many parish members share their financial resources with the parish but don’t make a commitment to do so regularly.

Please know that the door is always open for your commitment response –– no matter when–– and no matter if you are increasing your contribution or not. Your financial commitment is more important than its size.

So far in fiscal year 2015-2016 (Jul 2015 to Jan 2016), 48% of all registered households are on record as having contributed $811,698. Others contributed an additional $46,180 in loose cash (no name attached). We are grateful to God and to all of you.

“Sometimes when you sacrifice something precious, you're not really losing it. You're just passing it on to someone else.” Mitch Albom, The Five People You Meet in Heaven

CATHOLIC CHARITIES

A Men’s Wrist Watch was found after Mass on 2-14. Please call the parish office at 233-3092 to claim.

The Ames Catholic Community Stephen Ministry will soon be adding 15 newly trained Stephen Ministers to serve as caregivers in St. Cecilia & St. Thomas Aquinas as well as our community. They will be joining our current team of Stephen Ministers and will be available through a referral process. Any parish member is welcome to make a referral of someone who would benefit in having a Stephen Minister to serve as a caregiver and walk with them through difficult times in their lives. Consider suggesting this ministry to someone you know and, if they agree, contact the pastor or any Stephen Leader to continue the referral process. Once referred, they are contacted and matched with a Stephen Minister (caregiver). You would be a part of the connection to Christ's love in our Christian family by helping them to receive care that could make a difference in their lives. It is easy to make a referral. Please take note of the Stephen Ministry brochure that is included in this bulletin and learn more by checking out the website reference. Contacts for referrals are: Rich Lee 515-708-0881, Anne Schmitt 515-291-8257, Sue Griffith 515-520-4576, Deacon Alan Christy 515-231-8099.
