Welcome to our Kindy class! Carson Street now has a satel-lite class located at Shelley Primary School. We have six wonderful students in the class who are able to benefit from the advantages of specialized, small group programs whilst maximising inclusive practice in a mainstream setting.

Mrs Hamling, Susan and Roberta have been very busy estab-lishing the class and re-sources. All the students have settled into their school routine quickly and are already developing independence and good work skills.

We are all looking forward to a great year filled with opportu-nities for early learning while having lots of fun!

Special thanks must go to the Shelley Primary School commu-nity who have offered us a warm welcome and supported this new satellite program.

Carson Street School Expert Staff: Exceptional Programs

From the Principal…..

I am happy to confirm that the start of the new school year has gone well, with students and staff settling into their new classes. We welcome all our new students and their families to the school community, and look forward to seeing you in school at forth-coming events such as Activity Days. Shortly planning will commence on your child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) and we hope that you are able to give your full attention to the development of this. Your input is vital. Visitors To School.

Our new District Director Greg Thorne visited our school on Monday19th February to gain information on our programs and facilities and to see whether we had any issues needing immediate support. He was most impressed with the Assessment and Reporting program we are trialling. He will return later in the year to look more thoroughly at how the school is being accountable to the Department of Education and Training. During a visit to the school on Wednesday 21st the Minister For Education announced that we are to receive $180,000 from the Capital works funding for a new Transportable building and overhead tracking for our pool, so that students with physical impairments can enter and exit the pool with greater dignity and ease. Local MLA Ben Wyatt and School for Parents Patron and MLA for Perth South Metropolitan Kate Doust as well as District Director Greg Thorne accompanied the Minister on his visit.

Special Bikes For Special Kids It was pleasing to see that a number of families borrowed our special bikes over the Christmas holiday period. Thanks to them all for returning the bikes so quickly.

P&C AGM The P&C AGM will be on Friday 30th March at 9.30 am. More information will follow closer to the date. I hope to see many of you at the meeting. The School Council Our first meeting will be on Thursday 1st March at 8.30 am.

Summer Holiday Program Thanks to Colin Pestell and his team of willing helpers for running the largest Holiday Program yet. Twenty students joined us for a range of interesting activities and chal-lenges. Thanks to the Town of Victoria Park, The City of South Perth and Mr Darryll Ashworth for sponsoring this worthy program.,

Sun Protection Just like you, we want to make sure that our stu-dents can enjoy being outside during the warmer months. With parents support we will do what we can to ensure that children are protected from the possible harmful effects of strong sun-shine. Protection includes • Hats • Cool clothing • Sunscreen/sun block • Using shade • Drinking water Parent To Parent

If you have any information that you think might be of interest to other parents and could be put in the newsletter please send it in to Registrar Julie Holding., i.e. Where to get subsidised nappies or rec-ommendations for Out of School Care – anything of interest. Label student Clothes Please make sure you have labelled your child’s clothing, especially uniform items. It can be very confusing when several students wear similar sized/coloured clothes if they are not clearly labelled.

Therapy Focus’ new Equipment Reissue Project is under-way, giving forgotten used equipment a new lease of life. Therapy Focus is working with TADWA (Technology Assisting Disability WA) to give unused, unwanted or surplus CAEP funded

equipment, a chance to make a difference to children’s lives. TADWA is in the process of cataloging returned equipment and is collect-ing a nice stock which is now available to meet children’s outstanding equipment needs. If your child has unmet equipment needs or you have unused equipment lying around the house please speak to your child’s Occupational Thera-pist or Physiotherapist about how you can participate in this project. Look out for the brochure, to be sent to all Therapy Focus equipment clients within the next few weeks, for further details. If you would like more information please feel free to contact our project officer Tracey Ellis on 9459 6544 or at [email protected].

BELMAY SATELLITE CLASS Wow! Look how smart all our students look in their Belmay uniforms! We all have settled in well very quickly this year.
