"I thought we had met our goal for the preschool remodel project." That is how someone greeted me after they had read in last week's Messenger that we would be taking up a love offering for our Building Fund on Easter Sunday, with the stated purpose being the preschool area remodel. You may have wondered the same thing. Allow me to explain to you what I explained to them.
When our project goals were set a year ago for the Building Fund, the main concern regarding the preschool area was the installation of a new bathroom facility. It was on that basis our goal of $14,000 was set. And yes, we did meet that goal. However, as is often the case, once we get into projects (especially in old buildings), other additional needs have come to light.
According to what I understand from a recent visit with our Master Building Chairman, Larry Teal, changes are being made to help improve security in our preschool area. This will involve, among other things, the installation of some new doors, possibly including solid core doors to replace the hollow core doors used currently. Additionally, there is discussion of how to better insulate the preschool area in the walls as well as in the ceiling. These ideas have been added subsequent to the previous goal being established. Also, the consensus opinion is that provision needs to be made to eventually move the Mother's Day Out program from its current location. Our Master Building Committee feels that the time to address these things is while we are already working in the preschool area.
So, additional money will be needed. How much? I honestly do not know right now. But remember, we had additional projects listed to follow the preschool remodel, so if we receive more money for the Building Fund than needs to be spent to address these additional needs, the money will go to the next project. If we are still in need of additional funds, the Master Building Committee will let us know. So what are we to do?
We are to do what we are to always do about everything. Seek God's face; so we might hear His voice; and do whatever He tells us to do. Donna and I will be praying about how God might have us give to our church's Building Fund on Easter Sunday, and we invite you to join us. Together, God will continue to do wonderful things among us, as we are led to invest in the next generation, by "Touching Tomorrow, Today."
Let's keep believing in God and in one another, Pastor Dave
