Lackland ISD to Activate Raptor System at Both Campuses Visitors to both Lackland Elementary and Stacey Jr/Sr High School will see added security on their next visit. In an effort to keep our students safe, Lackland ISD has installed a new security system known as Raptor. This visitor management system “instantly screens out registered sex offenders from campuses with children while managing visitors, students, faculty and volunteers”. Visitors to either campus will be required to present a driver’s license which will be scanned and compared to a national database of known sex offenders. If the visitor is cleared, a badge will print with the person’s name and picture identifying them as a visitor to the campus. Visitors must wear the badge the entire time they are on campus. School administrators and LAFB Security Police will be notified if a registered sex offender attempts to gain access to either campus. LISD takes the safety of our students very seriously. We will be implementing additional safety measures in the very near future. If you have any questions concerning student safety, please contact the campus principal. Campuses

Visitors to both Lackland Elementary and Stacey Jr/Sr

High School will see added security on their next visit.

In an effort to keep our students safe, Lackland ISD has

volunteers”. Visitors to either campus will be required

to present a driver’s license which will be scanned and

compared to a national database of known sex

offenders. If the visitor is cleared, a badge will print

with the person’s name and picture identifying them

as a visitor to the campus. Visitors must wear the

badge the entire time they are on campus. School

administrators and LAFB Security Police will be notified

if a registered sex offender attempts to gain access to

either campus. LISD takes the safety of our students

very seriously. We will be implementing additional

safety measures in the very near future. If you have

Engineers of the Future Sixteen Stacey Juniors & Seniors participated in the ‘Engineer-for-a-Day’ program on Tuesday, Feb 19

th. The event

was sponsored by the Bexar Co. Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. The morning started off with a Proclamation Breakfast. Brigadier General Theresa C. Carter, Commander of the 502

nd Air Base Wing and a career civil

engineer, was the guest speaker. The students met and had their picture taken with the TSPE Young Engineer of the year, T. Ian Perez of Raba Kistner Consultants. After the breakfast social, students broke off into groups. Mr. Rodgers took the first Stacey group to the Westeast Design Group, an architectural design firm located on the former Pearl Brewery complex on Grayson St. A registered architect from the firm talked to the students about what it is like being an architect and the education and certification requirements. He talked about the professional relationships required between engineers and architects. They looked at some the drawings of projects that the firm has worked on, including some of prospective hotels near the AT&T Center. After lunch at a nearby Mexican restaurant, the students were given a walkthrough tour of the remodeled Pearl complex. San Antonio Water Systems hosted the second Stacey group with Mr. Keller. They started with a tour of a pump station and chlorine tanks downtown. The students were shown firsthand how SAWS chlorinates San Antonio’s drinking water using a chemical process involving salt, water, and electricity to create chlorine and hydrogen. The group then traveled to SAWS headquarters at HW281 & St Marys St. Three professional engineers met with the students and talked about the engineering profession, what classes they should be taking in high school, and the certification tests required to obtain your engineering license. They looked at some current design projects including a pumping station/ pipeline project from south Bexar County up to the NW corner of the county. The engineers also reviewed their design of a new modern ‘digester’ at the Dos Rios Treatment plant. After a pizza lunch, the group took three SAWS vehicles to see an old lift station and a new modern lift station and explained the differences. All students returned to Stacey with a better understanding of the engineering profession, knowledge of the various disciplines in the field, and a possible career choice.

Stacey Family and Community Service class hosted a session at the Stacey Health Fair last week. Students were responsible for cooking and providing

healthy food samples to the junior high and high school students. The family and community service class also shared nutrition facts with their

peers. Students compared the calories of milkshakes vs. smoothies, pop tarts vs. oatmeal, oatmeal cream pies vs. pancake strawberry shortcakes, and chips

vs. popcorn. Recipes were provided for students to make these healthy snacks at home.
