1.
Is the course recognized by the Medical Council of India?
The M. Med in Family Medicine is not recognized by the MCI. This program is now
provisionally affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University.
2. I am a fresher and carry only one year experience, what are my chances of getting
into this course?
New/recent MBBS graduates are also eligible to apply for this M. Med in Family
Medicine. However, fresh MBBS candidates are advised to apply for the Post Graduate
Diploma in Family Medicine (PGDFM) program which is conducted by the MedicalEducation Unit (MEU) of CMC Vellore. This distance program is specifically designed
for the fresh graduates. The Medical Education Unit of CMC, Vellore may be contacted
by phone to 0416 228 4421 or by email [email protected] .
3. What are the eligibility criteria? / Who are eligible for joining the course?
The eligibility criterion for M. Med in Family Medicine is a MBBS degree. Applicants
need to have completed their internship and obtained their degree certificate. They
should have registered with the MCI or the respective State Medical Council.

I have completed MBBS from abroad, am I eligible to apply?
Indian citizen, who have completed their MBBS or equivalent to MBBS abroad are
required to
have cleared the MCI screening test and
Should have registered with the MCI or the respective State Medical Council.
Proof of thesame will be required during admission.
5. I only have a provisional degree certificate. Will it be accepted?
Provisional degree certificate will be accepted only from candidates who have graduated
in 2013. Only the final University degree certificate will be accepted from applicants
who have graduated before 2013.
6. When is the last date for the submission of the application form?

8. Do I have to submit a hard copy of the application or apply through online mode?
From 2014, the applicationsfor the M. Med program will be through online mode only.
9. Do I have to apply Online only? What is the website ID for the same?

10.How can I submit my application form? How much application fee has to be paid
and by which mode?
From 2014, applications for the M. Med in Family Medicine program will be online
ONLY. The application fee is Rs. 1000. The application fee can be paid online through
Credit/ Debit cards or through Demand Drafts.
In case the payment is made through Demand Draft, the DD number should be entered
online. Otherwise you will not be able to submit your application.
11.How do I know my Demand Draft has reached the Department?
On receipt of your DD, we will send you an email confirmation.
12.Do I have an entrance examination for the admission into the M. Med. (Family
Medicine) course?
There is no entrance exam for the M. Med in Family Medicine program.
13.Is there any age limit for applying to the M.Med.(Family Medicine) course?
Applicantsupto the age of 55 can apply for the program.

I do not have MCI registration certificate and State Medical Council certificate.Can I apply for the course?
No. To be eligible for the program, you need to be registered with the MCI or the
respective State Medical Council.

The applications received will be scrutinized by a committee. The final list of 250
selected candidates and waitlisted candidates will be posted on the department website
on 25thJune. The selected candidates will also be intimated by email and SMS.
16.I had applied previously and did not get selected, what are the chances for me to be
selected if I apply for the second time?
The selection of candidates is purely the decision of the Selection Committee. No
special consideration will be given to applicants regardless of the fact they have applied
earlier.
17.Is it compulsory to sponsor and depute a Family Physician Assistant?
It is not compulsory to depute a clinical assistant for the training. However, your
practice will be very effective when your clinical assistant has such training. Moreover,
preference in selection will be given to the applicants who have opted to depute and
sponsor their assistants for this training.
18.Where will the Family Physician Assistant training be conducted? When? How
much is the fee?
The training will be conducted in CMC Vellore. The training will be for a period of 10
days. The dates for the training will be intimated later. The fee for the training is Rs.
12,000(Approx.)
19.
I have mentioned that I will sponsor a Family Physician Assistant in the application,
what will happen to my candidature if I am selected and I am not able to sponsor
and depute for the assistant training?
Applicants who have consented to depute and sponsor their assistants for the Family
Physician Assistant training will be given preference during selection. If selected, they
will be required to sign an undertaking before admission stating that they will depute
and sponsor their assistant for the training.
If for any reason, these selected candidates are not able to provide the undertaking, thentheir candidature will be cancelled.
20.Who is eligible for the Scholarship? What can I do to avail this Scholarship?
Scholarship will be provided for candidates currently working in Mission Hospitals
affiliated to CMC Vellore. Other candidates can also avail this scholarship by

committing to work at least for a year during the course period in a Mission Hospitals

21.What is the difference between the PGDFM, M. Med in Family Medicine & the
Masters in Family Medicine (MFM) course from the University of Edinburgh?
The distance program in Family Medicine was initially offered as a PGDFM course of
two years duration. Afteraffiliation to the MGR University in 2012, this course became
known the Master in Medicine in Family Medicine (M. Med in Fam. Med).
The Masters in Family Medicine (MFM) is a University of Edinburgh and CMC jointprogram.
22.I am doing PG, can I join M. Med. course?
No, Candidates currently enrolled in any PG courses will not be eligible to apply for this
course.

25.Can I save the application and continue filling it later? How can I access my filled in
application?
The application has four sections1. Basic I nformation, 2. Upload Photo/Signatur e, 3.
Payment and 4. Prin t Confirmation. After you complete the first section 1. Basic
Information,an application number will be generated which can be seen on the top of the
Upload Photograph/ Signature section.
You can use this application number to Sign In from the Home Page to continue filling
your application.
26.What are the specifications for the Photograph to be uploaded?
a. The photograph must be in color and must be taken in a professional studio.
Photograph taken using a Mobile phone and other self-composed portraits are NOT
acceptable.
b. Photograph must be taken in a White or very light background
c. Ask your photo studio to provide the image in a JPEG format with specifications -
width 150 x Height 150 pixels. ONLY JPEG format will be accepted.
d. Ensure that the Photograph size is between 5KB and 80KB.
27.What are the specifications for the Signature to be uploaded?
This Procedur e must be carr ied out at a computer centre (Internet caf).
a. Please draw a rectangular box of size 7cm 2 cm on a white paper. Put your
signature with black or dark blue ink pen within this box.
b. Scan the signature using scanner at 200 pixelsper inch (dpi), and crop the image to
the box.
c.Ask the computer center to maintain to provide the signature on a JPEG format withspecifications Width 150 x Height 50 pixels. ONLY JPEG Formats will be
accepted.
d. Photographs of the signatures taken using mobile phone or digital camerasare not
acceptable.
e. Ensure that the Photograph size is between 5KB and 50KB.

28.What certificates are to be uploaded? What are the specifications for the
Certificates to be uploaded?
The Certificates to be uploaded are:
i. MBBS certificate
ii. MCI or State Medical Registration Certificate
Scanning of these two certificates, MBBS certificate and MCI certificate must be
carried out at a computer centre (Internet caf).
For the following procedure, only Microsoft Power Point 2010 or 2013 version is to
be used. It will not be possible in other older versions.
a. Scan the certificates using scanner at 200 pixels per inch (dpi).
b. Save this as JPEG file
c. Ask your computer centre to paste each of these JPEG files on separate slides in
Microsoft Power Point (2010 version or 2013 Version). There are 2 certificates to
be uploaded, both should be inserted on separate slides consecutively and theirborders must be stretched to fit the Slide border.
Save as one single PDFfile.
Please choose the following option appears at bottom of the box
Minimum Size (Publishing Online)
and do not choose the option Standard (Publishing online and
printing).
d. Ensure that the PDF file size is between 50KB and 400 KB. Files larger than this
cannot be uploaded.
e. ONLY PDF File will be accepted.
29.What should I do for the Stage 2 of application?
For the Stage 2, please visit cmcdistedu.org. Instructions for the stage 2 are available on
30.If I am selected must I hand over my original certificates?
The MGR University requires certificates to be produced in original for the purpose of
Certificate Verification and Registration. The selected candidates are to submit the
following certificates in ORIGINAL and 3 sets of attested photocopies to the
Department of Distance Education, CMC Vellore once you receive the selection letter
within the stipulated date.
31.What are the certificates to be submitted on being selected at the time of admission?
1. MBBS Degree Certificate
2. Final year MBBS mark sheet
3. MCI/State Medical Council registration certificate for MBBS
4. Internship (CRRI) completion certificate

5. Date of Birth proof - 10thstandard or 12thstandard mark sheet or Birth certificate

The certificates from 1-7from the above list are applicable to all the selected candidatesand those from 8 -7 are applicable to certain candidates only. The selected candidates are
required to submit all certificates and 3 sets of attested photocopies as applicable to the
Department of Distance Education for University verification. The candidates may
submit the certificates to the department in person or through a representative or through
reputed courier services.
32.When will the certificates be returned?
These certificates will be returned to the candidate in 6-8 weeks, once the university
verification process by University is over.
33.What If I am selected for the course, but I am not able to submit my originals. Will I
be able to join the course?
Selected Candidates who are not able to/ not willing to submit all the documents as
required to CMC will forfeit their candidature.
34.I do not have the original documents right now, if selected can I submit them later
during the course?
No, the original certificates need to be submitted immediately after selection. If a
selected candidate is not able to submit his certificates, his/her candidature will be
cancelled.
35.When will I be intimated regarding the selection? When will the list of selected
candidates be published in the CMC website?

The list of 250 selected candidates and the waitlisted candidates will be put up on the
website on 25th June 2014. The selected candidates will receive an email and an SMS
about the selection.
36.When is the last date for submission of my acceptance letter?
The selected candidates are required to confirm acceptance of the offer of admission
within 3 days from the date of intimation. If no confirmation is received from the
candidate in 3 days, it will be assumed that the candidate is not interested to join and
his/her seat will be allotted to candidature will be cancelled.
37.Is the M. Med. in Family Medicine course similar to the PGDFM course offered by
the department?
The distance program in Family Medicine was initially offered as a PGDFM course of
two years duration. After affiliation to the MGR University in 2012, this course became
known the Master in Medicine in Family Medicine. However, the PGDFMprogram is
continued to be offered to the Government general physicians (NRHM) and also for the
recent MBBS graduates.
38.Who will be given preference to join the course?
The following applicants will be given preference during selection, not necessarily in the
same order.
1. Female Candidates
2. Candidates working in remote areas, PHCs, mission hospitals
3.
Candidates willing to sponsor assistant to be trained as a Family Physician Assistant
4. Candidates having their own clinic or working in a OPD setup
5. Older candidates ( Those who completed MBBS 5 years before and above)
The selection & wait l isting of candidates for M . Med in Family M edicine program is
the sole decision of the selection committee.
39.What level course is this M. Med in Family Medicine Certificate course/Diploma

41.Do I need to submit any original certificate at the time of applying online for
verification along with my application?
No, there is no need to send any original certificate at the time of applying for the
course. Only scanned copies of the MBBS degree certificate & the MCI/State Medical
Registration certificate are to be uploaded while applying online.

Do I need to get a migratory certificate for the course if I have completed my MBBSin another university?
No, Migration certificate is not necessary for the admission.
43.What type of affiliation does the course have with the University?
The M. Med in Family Medicine is provisionally affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR
Medical University. The final confirmation is subject to universitys approval.
44.What is the selection process? On what basis will the candidates be selected?

Attending the contact programs is a mandatory requirementfor the M. Med program.
Moreover, if the attendance requirement is not met, the candidate will not be eligible to
appear for the University exam.
50.What is Family Physician Assistant training? By opting for it, will my chances of
selection into the M Med be better?
It is a short term comprehensive course with self-learning modules and a 10 days
intensive training program at CMC Vellore for a nurse or clinical assistant (minimum
qualification 12thStd) who works with you at the clinic.

Applicants opting to depute their assistants for the same will be given preference during
selection. However this does not guarantee selection. These candidates if selected are to
submit and undertaking stating that they would depute and sponsor their assistants.
51.How will I benefit from the FP assistant training?
By having an assistant trained in Family Medicine principles, Family Physicians can be
very effective healthcare providers.
52.What is the cost for doing the FP Assistant training? Whom can I send for the
training?
The cost of the training is Rs. 12,000 (Subject to Change). You can depute a nurse or the
assistant (minimum qualification 12thStd) who helps you in your clinic.
53.Can I change my contact center later?
No, you will not be able to change your contact center.
54.How many contact programs are there for the overall course period and for how
many days?
There will be three contact programs, each for a period of 11 days.
55.Is it compulsory to attend all the days of the contact program? What is the
minimum attendance requirement?
Minimum 90 % i.e 30 of 33 days attendance is mandatory.
