FROM THE VICARAGE:
In mid-October, on the 18th, the Church observes St Luke’s Day.
St Luke was the writer of the 3rd Gospel and also of the Acts of the Apostles. He was a close friend of St Paul and went with him on some of his missionary travels. Luke was a doctor by profession and it is thought that is why his Gospel focuses more upon Jesus’ miracles of healing more than any of the other Gospels. Luke also shows a particular interest in the outcasts of the society he lived in.
In all societies throughout history there have been those on the edge – those who for various reasons don’t fit in to the mainstream of the society in which they live. It was these people that Jesus paid particular attention to – he once told His followers “Those who are well have no need of a doctor, but those who are sick.” Around us in our communities today there are many people who need an extra bit of TLC for all sorts of reasons. No-one can meet every need they see, but we can all do our bit to offer a helping hand sometimes – Jesus said that when we offer help to others, we are offering help to Him.
In the New Testament Letter to the Hebrews we read these words: “Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that, some have entertained angels without knowing it.”

Our next project is clearing the wild life bank of weeds and planting more seeds, any offers of help would be appreciated as this will be quite a long task!
Planting up of the beds , pots and wheelbarrow for winter will also need to be discussed in the not too distant future. If you have only an hour or 2 or 3 hours per week/month we would be very pleased to hear from you.
Riverside Academy children who planted the vegetables will be contacted very soon with regards to harvesting the sweetcorn, runnerbeans, etc, that we have managed to save from the wildlife that inhabit the churchyard!! As always many thanks to everyone the churchyard looks fantastic and we have many complimentary comments from visitors to the churchyard from far & wide which makes everything worthwhile.

MUSIC REVIEW BY CHRIS AT PRAISEILLUMINATOR
Dave Bainbridge: Celestial Fire. Wow, what an exhilaratingly glorious record it really is. I like it when artists take Worship music to dimensions like never before. Dave Bainbridge is one of the founders of a Celtic/Progressive Folk/Rock group Iona and he is a very super talented musician.
The Dave Bainbridge album ‘’Celestial Fire’’ is ever so grand in scope and it is quite a colourful album and it sounds quite heavenly. This record blends in elements of Celtic/Folk and Progressive Rock to such an incredible extent and it totally explodes to life. I believe this kind of music has the power toproclaim God’s majestic awesomeness and will take you into a heavenly realm. Some of the tracks go on for more than 10 minutes long and they are as explosive as a supernova. If you would like to know more about Dave Bainbridge, you can always check him out on the internet for more information.

40 NOT OUT! RUGBY BRIDGE CLUB CELEBRATES ITS ANNIVERSARY THIS YEAR WITH FREE LESSONS
Rugby Bridge Club, the town’s premier and longest established bridge club, was foundedin 1976 and will celebrate its fortieth anniversary by providing free teaching of the game to absolute beginners and improving players alike from September 2015 to June 2016.
Contract bridge was described by The Times newspaper as ‘the best game ever invented’, and the Club wants more residents of Rugby and the surrounding villages to experience its pleasures at first hand. Bridge provides superb entertainment and stimulus for the brain, and is a great way to keep those little grey cells working.
Club spokesman Peter Langley said – ‘The Club has flourished since its early days, has a current membership of 140, and provides excellent entertainment for a range of abilities in playing sessions on most days of the week. Bridge is an inexpensive game and all equipment is provided. We offer a warm and friendly welcome to players of all standards and to those entirely new to the game. We have been teaching bridge for 16 years and our lessons follow standards and procedures laid down by the English Bridge Union (the national body responsible for the game). Come and have a go!’
Peter Langley is available for further comment – contact number 024-7654-2703. For more details about the free lessons, Wendy Pattinson (01788-842258) and Dave Owen (01788-577559) are the contact points, or you can refer to the Club’s website – www.bridgewebs.com/rugby
