Second assignment NUR 352 Each student has to prepare on paper a family assessment including; A genogram for a family. More information about how to draw a genogram in the following slides. You can choose any patient with hereditary disease in the hospital (Thalassemia unit if possible) OR you may use your family if you like and change any information you want to conceal) An ecomap ; More information about how to draw ecomap in the following slidesPlease put your paper in a file with your name on the file. I will not accept separate pieces of paper Due date of the assignmentFor Monday & Wednesday class March 26 at the end of the class or earlier For Thursday class March 29 at the end of the class or earlier If you are not going to attend the class that day please submit the assignment to the secretary or under the door of my office any time before the due date

It gives an overview of the family process and helps the nurse identify strengths and resources, weaknesses of the familyDescribes health status of the family and its individual members

Assessment begins with a complete health history. This provides information about existing or potential health problems

Family assessment includes genogram and ecomap

Family Assessment

Genogram (family tree) enables a nurse to visualize how family members are genetically related and assess pattern of chronic diseases

Ecomap for each family member or a family as a unit provides information about the family/individual interactions with external community environment such as school, work. Interactions such as health beliefs and lifestyle behaviors Type of interactionsQuality of interactions ( positive or stressful)Strength of interactions ( strong, weak)Direction of energy expenditure/flow ( using arrows)

In the next two slides I provided you with examples of genogram and ecomap These examples to help you developing your own genogram and ecomap in order to prepare a comprehensive nursing care plan

Provide me with the legend (for example if you want to draw a circle tell me what circle means or if you want to tell me that the husband and wife are relative you can use any symbol but you need to put that in a small box at the right lower corner of the page
