L ast month MoH

Malawi Executive

Director John

Mandere shared with you

how Ministry of Hope is

struggling to work in the

current economic crisis.

These difficult times have

only amplified the already staggering

needs of orphans and vulnerable children

in Malawi.

This month we want to recognize the

donors who have enabled MoH to con-

tinue ministering in this challenging envi-

ronment. The Lord has used your generos-

ity to feed, clothe, educate and care for

orphans who have been most impacted by

the current economic situation. In this

newsletter, we have also highlighted a few

of the wonderful ways your gifts and

prayers have borne fruit through the edu-

cational programs for orphans in Malawi

and the practical provision of a new vehi-

cle to support the work of MoH Lesotho.

Thank you so much for being there in this

time of need.

During the first week of March 2012

the US Board and the Malawi Board of

MoH will hold a joint meeting in Malawi.

The purpose of the meeting will be to

discuss how best to make a difference in

the lives of these children with the re-

sources the Lord has provided. With such

great need and only limited resources, this

will be a challenging task. Please pray for

these meetings, as we seek to honor the

Lord by making wise decisions. In all

things, we must remember that God has a

plan, and we must trust his timing as we

seek to be faithful in our calling to love

and serve his children in Malawi.

"Let us not grow weary in doing good,

for at the proper time we will reap a har-

vest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9

W e are deeply grateful for each supporter and your con-

tributions that make programs in Malawi and Lesotho

possible. Through your generosity we are able to

make life-giving and life-changing gifts to our sisters and broth-

ers in Africa. Despite living in two of the poorest nations on

earth, they feel rich in spirit because you care about them and are

helping them. They too, have big hearts and help one another. It’s

a way of life in the “Warm Heart of Africa.”

We especially appreciate our loyal Team Hope Supporters,

who make regular ongoing gifts, either monthly, quarterly or

annually. We have several who are celebrating their five year

anniversary as Team Hope Supporters!

When we hear a baby cry out for food, when we don’t have a

mosquito net to send home with a child, when a high school stu-

dent passes rigorous exams and dreams of enrolling in school, it

is very painful to realize that we have to wait until year end to

answer all of those needs, because that’s when much of our in-

come occurs. For those people who give an annual gift… perhaps

at year end… we urge you to consider giving in smaller, regular

increments throughout the year, starting today. In this way we

can put these gifts to work sooner, to help people whose needs

are keenly felt right now.

You can help by becoming a Team Hope Supporter today!

Simply log on to our website at ministryofhope.org and click on

the bright orange Donate Now button. This puts you onto the

Ministry of Hope donor page where you can elect either a one-

time gift or a recurring gift (monthly, quarterly, or annually). By

making a recurring gift you help assure a steady stream of sup-

port throughout the year so that Ministry of Hope can respond

immediately to urgent needs. Your partnership is appreciated

more than words can express.

Ministry of Hope greatly appreciates all our donors. We've made every effort to list all names accurately, and ask that you

report any errors or omissions to [email protected]. This list recognizes those who have given directly through

Ministry of Hope, gifts given through our website, and other identifiable gifts designated through other non-profits.

T his year, Ministry of Hope re-

ceived high marks on its annual

Education Report Card from

John Mandere. Thanks to the faithful

support of donors and the hard work of

the students, the future looks promising

for many of the orphans and vulnerable

children served by MoH.

224 little ones are being given a

headstart in Ministry of Hope preschool

programs, where they are taught Bible

stories and simple English skills. 1500

Primary school age children receive

food and educational supplies through

village feeding centers, enabling them

to maximize their learning at school.

180 young scholars receive Ministry of

Hope support to attend secondary

school, and exit exam results prove that

the investment is paying off: 90% of

MoH students passed standardized ex-

ams, compared to a 66% national pass

rate.

Finally, 41 students are supported

for college and technical education, and

are studying to be everything from

school teachers and auto mechanics to

carpenters and bricklayers. One star

student, Shireen Chithambo, recently

graduated from Kamuzu College of

Nursing, in a ceremony attended by the

president of Malawi. Another, Milka

Katontha from Katonda, is studying at

the Natural Resources College. She has

resisted pressures to marry early and

has gone farther in her education than

any other girl in her village.

Education is the key to a better life

and a brighter future for rural village

orphans who have already faced seem-

ingly insurmountable challenges in

their young lives. Education puts essen-

tial tools in their hands and enables

them to make a difference, not only in

their own lives and families, but in the

lives of others.

Ministry of Hope is grateful to all

its donors, whose faithful giving en-

ables us to invest in the eager young

minds of these children, helping them

to grow into the young men and women

that God intends them to be.
