Easy operation with maximum benefitsThe Eaton EZ intelligent relays provide basicfunctions that users could only implement previously with individually installed and wireddevices. The EZD multi-function displays offerpowerful visualization functions.

Because of the extensive EZproduct range, users canalways find the best solutionfor their needs. Solutions canbe as simple as a compactstand-alone intelligent relaywith a few timing relays anda timer switch, or as complexas a large-scale network ofEZ intelligent relays that are processing several hundred

I/O with local and remoteexpansion modules and graphicvisualization. The need foruser-friendly operation and programming is consistentlymet and forms the basis forthe outstanding features foundin the EZ family of products.

Everything needed is built-in

Depending on the deviceselected, EZ and EZD productsprovide users with timingrelays, flash relays, counters,comparators, timer switchesand other ready-to-use functions.The circuit diagram display ofserial and parallel connections,unlike the display of AND andOR operations in a functionblock diagram, offers a more

manageable display of the circuit. Every EZ and EZD intelligent relay features anintegrated power flow displayto ensure safe operation duringcommissioning and helps identify errors in the circuit diagram. For ease-of-use, energized rungs are highlighted,and non-energized rungs aredimmed.

Security means safety

The finished circuit diagram isstored internally and can alsobe saved externally on a memory module (EEPROM)for transport, security andbackup. Multi-level passwordprotection secures your circuitdiagram from unauthorizedviewing, editing, copying ordeleting.

Eaton’s EZ line really iseasy to use. In associa-tion with EZD, it offerseverything you needfrom a state-of-the-artautomation system: flexible networking,local and remoteexpansion modules,visualization, scalability.

Simplicity and user-friendly operation

EZ and EZD products areknown for their user-friendlyoperation and programming.Every rung or circuit connectionis wired just like you remember:Contact – Contact – Contact –Coil – Done! The devices allowthe “wiring” of 128 or 256rungs or circuit connections.Series and parallel connections,which make up a major part of a control circuit, are easilycreated without previous programming knowledge.Ready-to-use function blocksare simply integrated in thewiring with coils, and contactsare provided for additionalfunctions.

EZ800andEZDintelligent relays

The EZ800 and EZD intelligentrelays provide expanded capabilities. Users can networkup to eight modules to easily support applications with over300 I/O points. A control system can be designed byusing a single local program orby using several programs ondifferent distributed devices.Up to 1000 meters can becovered by the network. Theintelligent relays can also beeasily integrated with higher-level automation networkssuch as PROFIBUS-DP,CANopen, DeviceNet and AS-Interface.

EZD multi-function display

The EZD supports all of thefunctions of the EZ800 andprovides a full graphical display.It replaces the 7-segment display and indicates faultmessages and operating stepsgraphically or in plain text. Thefunction buttons on the EZDcan be used to display andmodify set points during operation. High-speed signalcounting, frequency measure-ment and incremental encoderprocessing can all be seamlesslyimplemented with an EZ800 oran EZD.

EZ-NET

By integrating the EZ-NET network, which allows up toeight stations consisting ofEZ800 or EZD devices, communication can beaccomplished up to a distanceof 1000 meters. It does not matter if the devices involvedare running their own programsor are only used as remoteinput/output modules.

Furthermore, all stations canbe expanded locally using theEZ-LINK interface. This enablesEZ and EZD devices to beused seamlessly withapplications involving 12 tomore than 300 I/O points.The EZD also features theoption of a simple point-to-point connection with anEZ800 or another EZDvia a serial interface.

Communication modules areavailable that allow EZ andEZD intelligent relays to beconnected to AS-Interface,PROFIBUS-DP, CANopen andDeviceNet network systems.

Transferring complex data

More powerful fieldbus systemslike the PROFIBUS-DP areused for complex automationtasks. These may involvetransporting large data sets,such as several analog values,setpoints, counter states ortimer parameters. WithPROFIBUS-DP, up to 20 bytes

of data per station can betransferred with each scan,and up to 126 nodes can belinked together over a distanceof 1200 meters. The EZ204-DPgateway makes EZ intelligentrelays more flexible andpowerful. Entire parametersets of EZ can be read orexchanged by a network

connection. If recipes requiredifferent parameter sets to betransferred to EZ, clock times,counter states, setpoints andactual values can be controlledby a suitable master on this powerful network system.

Connection to world standard fieldbus systems

Similar to the EZ204-DP, the EZ221-CO network communication module forCANopen and the EZ222-DNfor DeviceNet offer the samefunctions.

Communication modules provide automation interactionCommunication connections to theproduction processgive more flexibilityand control.

Commanding, signaling,monitoring and controllingon bit level

A network connection is oftenworthwhile for simple operatingsteps often found in productionprocesses. The Actuator-SensorInterface, or AS-I, can provide31 slaves simultaneously with248 binary data items. Formachine building applications,AS-I is the optimal networkconnection choice becauseinput/output data can betransferred with a very fastreaction time of only 5 ms.As a result, it is possible tostart up several motorssimultaneously in a materialshandling application.

The EZ205-ASI communicationmodule makes network connection easy. It can be connected via the EZ-LINKconnection to all expandableEZ units. The two-wire AS-Icable is simply wired to themodule– that's it! Dataexchange is then organized by a higher level AS-I master.

1 & 2 Plug & play

Plug & play technology allowsusers to connect an EZD display (EZD-80 or EZD-80-B)to an EZ intelligent relay via anEZD-CP4 supply andcommunication module.The EZD-CP4 module isfactory shipped with fivemeters of serial connectioncable that can be cut to anyrequired length allowing the

display to be mounted up tofive meters away from theintelligent relay.

No software or drivers areneeded for the connection -EZD-CP4 is a genuine plug &play device. I/O wiring can bekept in the control panel andthe EZD-CP4 simply snaps tothe EZD display. When properlymounted, the display is

protected to IP65. The displayincludes a backlight that offersoptimum legibility.

Two EZ-CP4 modules areavailable: EZD-CP4-500 is usedwith all EZ500/700s and theEZD-CP4-800 is used with allEZ800 and EZD-CP8 devices.

1, 3 & 4 EZD provides HMI-Control

When an EZD display is directlyconnected to an EZD-CP8 withoptional input/output modules,the EZD becomes a compactHMI control device. It combinesthe functionality of an EZ800with powerful visualizationfunctions. The two modulesare simply plugged together.

By connecting an EZ618-AC-RE,EZ618-DC-RE or EZ620-DC-TEexpansion module, users cancreate an intelligent relay with24 inputs and up to 16 outputs.These three expansion modulesare simply fitted onto the EZcontroller and directly connectedusing the EZ-LINK interfaceconnector.

Alternatively, a connection canbe set up using the EZ200-EZcoupling module and a 2-wirecable allowing an expansionmodule to be remotely mountedup to 30 meters away.

The EZ202-RE expansionmodule provides two additionalrelay outputs that can be connected directly using theEZ-LINK connector.

EZSoft makes things particularlyeasy for users. The graphicaleditor shows the circuit diagramimmediately in the display formatrequired. Selection menus anddrag & drop functions simplifycircuit diagram creation. Simplyselect contacts and coils andconnect with the mouse –that's it!

In addition to the editing functions, the scaled softwarepackages EZSoftBasic andEZSoft are available forstraightforward circuit diagraminput. All software includesuser-friendly menus and Helpscreens.

EZSoft offers the following display formats for viewing,editing and printing out yourprogram:

• IEC format, with contact and coil symbols using international standards

• EZ circuit diagram, same aswhat is seen when program-ming from the EZ front panel

• ANSI format, in compliancewith American standards

EZSoft supports users who areconfiguring, programming anddefining parameters for EZintelligent relays and creatingvisualization functions for EZDdisplays. When intelligent relaysare connected to EZ-NET, allconnected devices can beaccessed and their programsloaded from a single intelligentrelay.

The integrated offline simulationtool allows users to test thefunctionality of the circuit diagram before commissioning,without the need for a con-nected device. The commentfunction for contacts, coils andfunction blocks helps provide aclear overview of the circuitdiagram. A cover sheet with acustomized company logo anddifferent text fields, as well asthe cross-reference list withcomments, can turn printoutsinto the perfect documentationfor applications.

EZ is maintenance-free

The finished program is stored in EZ's non-volatilememory until modified.Additional auxiliary power orbatteries are not required. Theintelligent relays are entirelymaintenance-free.

Circuit diagrams and parametersare saved in the event of apower failure. If a power failureoccurs, the EZ controllerstores switch positions andvalues such as operatinghours, meters, counters andtiming relays. When power isrestored the values arerestored. This retentive featurefor the different functionblocks and data is available onall EZ intelligent relay models.
