NETWORKING

IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT

EDUCATION...IT’S ALSO ABOUT THE CONNECTION!

NETWORKING WITH A PURPOSEIT’S AS EASY AS A•C•M•P

Attendees share year after year that one of the most valuable aspects of this Conference is meeting and interacting with fellow Change Management professionals. They value connecting with each other over shared experiences, tools of the trade, and the latest thinking. We want to make networking both easy and purposeful.

App Aware Download the Conference App Search in your App store for ACMP Change Management

or visit the ad on page 7 for information on how to download to your device(s). Once you have downloaded the app, your initial password is acmp2014. Navigate to the main menu to find your list of fellow attendees. Be sure you set up your own profile and settings. You can find more information on how to make the most of the app in the “App ‘How To’” section on the main menu. A few other things you can do with the app include: set your own schedule; rate sessions; check-in to sessions; share your experience and thoughts with your social network; scope out Change Management 2014 sponsors and exhibitors; earn badges as you use the app – for a Prize to be given on Wednesday to the Leader on the Leaderboard!

(Ex)Change Boards We invite you to share your ideas, thoughts and questions around change topics

of interest. Questions on the boards will include: • What areas need to be addressed in order to change the

high rate of change failure?• Change Management across multiple generations –

what changes?

The (Ex)Change Boards will be located in the foyer between the General Session Room and the Exhibit Hall. You can write on them, share your thoughts and opinions and if you wish, include your name so that you can connect on the topic with other attendees.

Mentoring Ribbons – Find a Guide / Be a Guide We know some of

you cringe at the very thought of networking or walking up to strangers and starting a conversation. Others have never met a stranger and could network with anyone, anytime, anywhere. So why not pair up and share your gifts? Just put a ribbon on your nametag that indicates whether you consider yourself to be a Networking Newbie or a Networking Savant. Be sure to stop by the Attendee Orientation Sunday before the Opening Reception.

Perspectives – What you can learn from Networking

New this year, Interacting with Intent sessions. It is always helpful to share ideas with people who have similar challenges, interests, and experiences to see how they have overcome a challenge. These are informal discussions where you can connect with practitioners around common areas of interest and a specific topic. ACMP volunteers will facilitate these sessions to get them started.

Simply check out signage around the conference facilities or within the app to learn where and when these topics will be discussed, then unleash your passion to contribute to the lively discussion you’ve been seeking:

• Big Hairy Change • Outstanding Change Agents • Tools of the Trade • Change That Matters

See page 44 for more detailed information.

Thank you for coming to Orlando to be part of Change Management 2014. This is the 4th Annual Association of Change Management Professionals (ACMP) Global Conference. On behalf of the Board of Directors, our staff and the many volunteers that made this possible, welcome.

Whether you are new to change management, an experienced change management practitioner, a professional from one of the many complementary disciplines to change management, or a change sponsor, please take full advantage of the learning, networking and conversation opportunities over the next few days.

The conference theme is Explore, Design and Lead. The sessions are intended to leave you energized with new ideas, practical actions and insights on topics ranging from Culture to Leadership, Measuring Change to Design Thinking and of course the practice of change management.

WHY ACMPThe Association of Change Management Professionals is committed to advancing the discipline of change management. In 2011, our inaugural ACMP conference began with John Kotter talking about Change Leadership. At the conclusion of his presentation he encouraged us to move full speed ahead in convening the change community.

ACMP is your professional home. It is an umbrella under which a diverse group of change management practitioners, researchers, theorists and thought leaders can interact, learn, solve problems, share lessons learned and develop competencies that collectively improve the effectiveness of change.

This is an exciting time for change and the discipline of change management. We come from many different places but we all agree that we want to do change better. We have BIG plans. We want to make a difference. This is a community fully devoted to change. Please join us and let your voice, your ideas and your actions contribute to the future of change.

Throughout this conference and into the months ahead, I ask you to get engaged and help us shape the future of change management. We are artists on a journey, creating change that matters. Thank you for being here. Make the most of the opportunity before you at Change Management 2014.

What does the future of change management hold? Change management, as a practice, has been around for many years. Change management, as a profession, is still evolving.

Five years ago in Orlando, passionate change practitioners participated in a World Café exercise to imagine the possibilities of creating ACMP and collectively advancing the discipline of change management. From that input, ACMP was created and we’ve begun the process of establishing the profession of change management. This session is an exploration of our emerging profession.

ACMP has brought together three thought leaders in the discipline of Change Management to discuss the profession of change management. We will discuss the past and present and then focus on the future. Panelists Daryl Conner, Luc Galoppin and Dean Anderson will bring you their unique perspectives on change management. This session will be moderated by ACMP President, Donna Brighton.

Following the panel discussion, participate in a World Café session to continue the conversation on the future of change management.

SHOW ME THE METRICS–TURNING BEHAVIOR INTO COLD, HARD DATAWhile methods and plans on how to lead and implement change are becoming more widely used and better understood, measuring the success of change is still elusive for many change management professionals and project teams. The art of determining employee adoption, utilization and proficiency in a measurable way can be a struggle for most project teams. However, it’s this type of information required to build the case for change management, assess change management effectiveness and evaluate how well the change is being embraced by employees. Through practical, real world examples, attendees of this session will learn multiple approaches ranging from leading to lagging indicators and pre and post implementation KPI’s, on how to assess communication effectiveness, employee resistance, and change leadership effectiveness, along with assessing employee adoption, utilization and proficiency.

About the SpeakerJeff Nevenhoven is a Senior Consultant for Life Cycle Engineering. He is Prosci-certified in change management and is one of the very few Prosci Authorized Training Provider Certified instructors in the world. Jeff’s rich blend of project, organizational and change management skills enable him to effectively work with employees throughout an organization to implement solutions that remove functional barriers and prepare and lead people through sustaining change.

EXCHANGING OUR DESKS FOR IMPROVED COLLABORATION AND RESULTS: THE JOURNEY TOWARDS UNASSIGNED SEATING AT CANADA’S MD PHYSICIAN SERVICES AND FORT LAUDERDALE’S CITRIX HQFew changes in the office are bigger than changing the office itself! More and more companies are significantly altering the workplace, creating a flexible environment more conducive to collaboration and knowledge working. Learn how two companies crafted an intentional change plan to lead employees (and themselves) through these tough changes, including techniques applied to make the change, sponsorship, communications, and reinforcement.

About the SpeakersAmy Haworth manages the Organizational Readiness practice at Citrix - a technology company focused on powering mobile lifestyles and cloud services. Amy helped lead the change aspects of two IT-focused ‘workAnywhere’ implementations at Citrix, where she was both leading the change and a target of the change herself. A passionate proponent for the ‘workAnywhere’ workstyle, you’ll find her maneuvering her overstuffed backpack around Fort Lauderdale. Prior to Citrix, Amy worked at companies including MillerCoors and Accenture.

Steven Herzog is Vice President, Strategy and Execution at MD Physician Services, a financial wealth management firm for Canadian physicians. Angela Schafer has 17 years of experience in the financial services industry, most of that time with MD Physician Services. As the Vice-President of Talent Management, Angela leads a diverse team focusing on change leadership, talent recruitment and retention strategies, leadership development and learning. Prior to her current role, Angela was the lead of Enterprise Change Management and has been instrumental in leading change management for the organization’s most critical projects.

Mark Goodman is the Senior Director of Worldwide Operations Planning for Citrix Systems in Fort Lauderdale. Mark’s career began in politics, as a legislative aide to the Senate Majority Leader in Florida. Deciding it was time for a change, Mark started in the IT profession on the ground level as a PC Analyst, back when PCs were cool. CHANGE MANAGEMENT INSIGHTS–A SOFTWARE APPROACH TO VISUALIZING, ANALYZING, AND SUPPORTING CHANGE MANAGEMENT PROJECTSMassive spreadsheets of audience data and heat maps. Slide presentations showing communication plans and audience profiles. Email lists and survey tools to manage communications and assessments. As change management professionals, we are often challenged with the limitations of today’s tools when they need to visualize, analyze and support change management efforts. We spend much of our time manipulating data and presenting our findings rather than focusing on the art of changing behaviors. In this session, we will explore a powerful web-based, data-driven application that will help you visualize change saturation, change conflict and posture, manage communications and assessments, and support your change projects with a graphical dashboard and analytical insights. This session will provide direction for how you can manage change with precision, insight and accuracy–without the burden of clunky tools.

About the SpeakerRay Pitts has combined his 20 years’ experience in change management consulting with his experience designing and developing software to envision a new technology to support change management projects. He is excited to show designs and explore concepts that will inspire and support innovation that allow us to focus on the art of change, and less time managing spreadsheets. He is currently a Practice Director in Slalom Consulting’s Organizational Effectiveness practice in Seattle, WA.

ROLE PLAYING CHANGE: KEYS TO A SUCCESSFUL STORYThroughout the life of a change project, we encounter many opportunities to stretch our process and refine our solutions. Knowing how to adapt to shifting needs makes your change management program that much stronger. In this interactive session, you will experience those opportunities firsthand. Using a design thinking framework as the basis, you will determine your best path forward. Each group of participants will be empowered to discover innovative solutions through the use of empathy, creativity and rationality. As a part of this session, the audience will flex their change management muscle and devise their own success story. We invite you to participate in a new and inventive story with us.

About the SpeakersAmy Becker, a Founding Member of the Association of Change Management Professionals, is a Sr Associate and Change Management Consultant with PDR. She concentrates her efforts on understanding the impact of the workplace redesign on her clients so she can create a customized change management plan. Kelly is certified in Prosci’s Change Management methodology and in Prosci’s Train-the-Trainer Program.

PRIVATE SCREENING: CONFESSIONS OF A PROJECT SPONSORAs in so many organizations, the role of project sponsor is still a little cloudy at the City of Regina. For Jason Carlston, it’s a work in progress on the never-ending list of to-do’s. When things get a little too overwhelming, and it seems like everyone “wants a piece of him” he decides to take a few moments of reflection, some time to “get real” and think about what he wants, what he really needs and who he is as a project sponsor. Based on the true story of Jason Carlston, Deputy City Manager, City of Regina.

About the SpeakerJason Carleton is Deputy City Manager of Community Planning & Development Division for the City of Regina. Jason began his career with the City of Regina as a summer student cutting grass on the Municipal Golf Courses 13 years ago. Responsibilities have increased significantly since those days. Through the University of Regina, he obtained degrees in Human Geography, Psychology and a Masters of Arts in Urban Geography, and is actively involved as a regular sessional lecturer.

CULTURE CHANGE: A STRATEGIC LEVER FOR SUSTAINED RESULTSCulture is affected by literally every change effort. Many change models and assessment tools reference culture, but do not actually address changing it. When projects are of significant scope and require leaders and employees to change the way they think, interact, and behave, addressing culture is an essential strategic lever for achieving lasting results. This session will address two options for positioning culture change in the organization-- when culture is the primary focus of change, and as a part of all content-driven change efforts, be they IT, policy, or business process. We will define how to observe indicators of culture in action and how to assess the impacts that a change effort will have on them. We will describe seven pragmatic strategies for changing culture, providing a process roadmap for pragmatically addressing culture so that results are achieved and sustained. This is an essential competency for all change managers!

About the SpeakerMs. Ackerman Anderson is co-founder of Being First, Inc., a training and consulting firm specializing in leading conscious transformation in Fortune 1000 companies, military, government, and large non-profits. She helped define the field of organization transformation, and speaks globally about transformation. She co-authored The Change Leader’s Roadmap: How to Navigate Your Organization’s Transformation and Beyond Change Management: How to Achieve Breakthrough Results from Conscious Change Leadership, and spearheaded the landmark Change Leader’s Roadmap Methodology.

DYSFUNCTION JUNCTION: MANAGING CHANGE OVERLOADChange management is often focused on a single change at a time, but there are important considerations to managing a portfolio of changes. In this session, participants will learn about adaptation capacity and what happens when change targets experience too much change, including impacts to the portfolio itself. Participants will get an overview of strategies for managing the disruption of change at the portfolio level, including measuring the supply and demand of adaptation capacity, and options for increasing an organization’s ability to absorb more disruption from change. These options include strategies for reducing demand and for increasing capacity. The presenters will share real-world examples of how these strategies have been applied at Lowe’s and other organizations.

About the SpeakersJessica Bronzert is Director of Change Execution for Lowe’s Companies, Inc. Jessica has worked in a number of areas of human resources, including compensation, talent management and leadership development, and as a Human Resources Business Partner. She now supports the Chief Customer Officer organization within Lowe’s, guiding realization of its most critical changes. Jessica is a founding member of Lowe’s Change Execution Center of Expertise, and earned her MBA from Case Western Reserve University.

Dr. Linda Hoopes is the president and founder of Resilience Alliance, and author of Managing Change with Personal Resilience. She has worked in the change management field for over 20 years, most recently at Conner Partners, and has developed and applied multiple interventions to assess, manage, and increase organizational change capacity. Formerly on the faculties of Georgia Tech, Rutgers, and Colby College, she holds a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Tennessee.

SOLVE THE CHANGE MANAGEMENT ROI CHALLENGE: A CASE STUDYHow much change management? What amount of investment is necessary to ensure success? This session presents a case study organization faced with answering these questions in order to plan and budget for change management resources on a large, complex change project. You will participate in the step-by-step process they followed using Prosci’s Change Management ROI framework to identify and quantify change management’s contribution to benefit realization. The outcome is a predictive model for estimating expected benefits based on different levels of change management investment. The case study results demonstrate how this innovative approach can be applied to inform change management resource decisions and solve the change management ROI challenge.

About the SpeakerKaren Strong, is Senior Director and Change Management Practice Lead at Gimmal; an IT solutions firm focused on designing and implementing enterprise-class information management tools like Microsoft SharePoint. Her passion is to help clients achieve optimal program outcomes by managing the impact of change on people. She has a Prosci Change Management methodology certification as a practitioner and trainer.

NO MORE “FLAVOR OF THE MONTH”! DEVELOPING CHANGE INTELLIGENCE TO ENGAGE SPONSORS, WOW THE WORKFORCE, AND PARTNER ACROSS LEVELS TO MAKE CHANGE STICKThree of the toughest change challenges are (1) sponsor support, (2) workforce adoption, and (3) sustaining transformation. In this presentation, you’ll learn how a large manufacturing company struggled with all three - in pursuit of their strategy to double in size by 2020. To achieve this goal, they needed to vastly improve their approach to learning and development. A Steering Committee and Project Team were assigned to the task. Both groups were cynical about the project’s potential for success - and each other! Building their Change Intelligence, the teams became aware of their vastly different Change Leader Styles. Based on that insight, they developed a common language and change methodology to partner to lead transformation. Mission-critical results included installing best-practice blended learning programs for the entire operation. In a company that traditionally “started strong” but lacked follow-through, developing their collective Change Intelligence proved to be the key success factor.

About the SpeakersBarbara A. Trautlein, Ph.D., is author of the best-selling Change Intelligence and principal of Change Catalysts. During her 25+ year career she has conducted workshops for thousands of participants, coached dozens of leaders, and facilitated significant change initiatives - achieving bottom-line business and leadership results. She is an engaging speaker across four continents. She holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology from the University of Michigan. IMPLEMENTATION THAT LASTS: HOW TO PULL 6 INFLUENCE LEVERS TO PRODUCE STRONG – AND SUSTAINABLE – CHANGEHow many times have you seen someone who’s reluctant to do something involving change and you chalked it up to “an attitude problem” or some other personality issue? While it’s possible the person did indeed need an attitude adjustment, it’s also possible he simply didn’t know “how” to complete the task. In the context of a structured approach to change and implementation, this presentation will focus on a “Want To – Can Do” model that highlights both the motivation and ability sides of change. You’ll learn how to apply six specific influence strategies at the Individual level (a person’s own motivation and abilities), the Community level (colleagues and coworkers), and the Environment level (organizational structure, processes, etc.). Dr. Duncan will use case studies to demonstrate the value of influence strategies with key players ranging from sponsors to end users of your change.

About the SpeakerDr. Rodger Dean Duncan is widely known for his expertise in leadership and the strategic management of change. He is author of the internationally bestselling book Change-friendly Leadership: How to Transform Good Intentions into Great Performance (foreword by Stephen M.R. Covey). Rodger is a regular contributor to Forbes magazine. His blog reaches subscribers in more than 150 countries. His clients range from senior leaders in multiple industries to cabinet officials in two White House administrations.

LESS IS MORE: VISUALIZING AND PLANNING CHANGE IN AN ERA OF CHANGE FATIGUEStarting with examples for his experience with the Canadian military (including two deployments leading multiple change streams within the Afghan National Army) and as a Fashion Designer, Richard Moller will help you draw parallels to your organizations so you can better understand what Change Fatigue is and how to recognize it. You will also be introduced to techniques to visualize your change, and its impacts within your organization; better draw connections between potentially related change initiatives; and identify your Change Center-of-Gravity. Once you have identified your core change requirement you will learn a three-tiered planning model that will give you the tools to clearly articulate your plan to your change and project teams, senior organizational leaders, and your organization as a whole.

About the SpeakerRichard Moller’s academic studies include Mechanical Engineering, Psychology, and Fashion Design. In addition to being a business owner, he has had a 28 year career in the Canadian Naval Reserve, including two deployments to Afghanistan. He has an extensive list of domestic and international publications on leadership, ethics, organizational renewal, and strategic studies. He received his Prosci Change Management certification while serving as the senior change manager for the Canadian military training system.

HUMAN DYNAMICS: TURNING THE TIDE ON PEER PRESSUREPeer pressure is a powerful force. Ever since middle school, we have been influenced by peer pressure. Sometimes that has gotten us into trouble and perhaps sometimes it has gotten us out of trouble. In this session, we will discuss how to harness peer pressure within our organizations to support our change initiatives and increase their success rate. Combined with traditional stakeholder management techniques, engaging informal leaders and their influence as peers is sure to set your effort up for success.

About the SpeakerSara Shelton is a senior level management consultant with over 14 years of experience in change management, organizational design, communications and training strategy development, project management and process improvement in the public and private sectors. Ms. Shelton is Prosci ™ certified in Change Management, a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and a Certified Scrum Master (SCM).

THE WORLD CAFE SESSION: A CONTINUATION OF THE PANEL DISCUSSIONJoin us in continuing the discussion that this morning’s panel started. Where is the profession of change management going? An interactive, world cafe style format to encourage discussion amongst the group and to share thoughts and insights. Whether you agree with the panelists or disagree, here is a chance to make your voice heard and share amongst your peers and colleagues.

CHANGE MANAGER TO CHANGE LEADER: POWERFUL TECHNIQUES TO INCREASE YOUR PROFESSIONAL NET WORTHOne of the most commonly reported change practitioner challenges is effectively influencing senior-executive sponsors. The sense of urgency to address this challenge has been steadily building as the inability to consistently shape sponsor behavior and decisions continues to compromises both organization results and the practitioner’s ‘professional net worth’. Seasoned practitioners, poised to advance beyond ‘change management’ toward ‘change leadership’, now recognize a shift in their mindset and development of several critical skills are absolutely necessary to enhance their gravitas. In this session, short stories and real examples illustrate the habitual (and often humorous) disconnect between sponsor expectations and change practitioner approach. A simple framework, self-evaluation, and spirited discussion provide quick, concrete tactics to improve presence, positioning, power, and performance during various stages of executive interaction. Participants will leave with a renewed sense of confidence about engaging their executives and a refreshing view of our shared profession!

About the SpeakerKimberlee Williams, founder of ignitem, LLC, is on a mission to guide businesses worldwide to accelerated growth and profitability through change leadership training and executive business transformation advisory services. She was the Global Head of Change Execution for the $46bb/90,000 employee base at Merck & Co. during one of the most transformational periods the company’s history. The cohesive change community, training, & methodology integration she led enabled $3.5bb in cost savings and numerous revenue/growth initiatives.

APPLYING GAME TECHNIQUES FOR INCREASED ADOPTION AND ENGAGEMENT OF EMPLOYEESAs the world’s workforce continues to globalize and become dispersed there are increasing trends to find ways that engage employees while maintaining a competitive posture in the markets. By 2015, more than 50 percent of organizations that manage innovation processes will turn to Gamification, according to Gartner, Inc. Gamification creates experiences for consumers and introduces game mechanics (badges, challenges, rewards, points, leaderboards, etc.) into non-game contexts. Non-game contexts include things like rewarding drivers for environmentally-friendly driving patterns, exploring places and earning badges from FourSquare, or exercising and getting real-time feedback with technologies like Fitbit. The introduction of game mechanics into enterprise systems is a way to make work fun and improve retention through delivery of real-time feedback systems. Gamification engages employees, improves understanding about employee behaviors, facilitates conversations of employee assessments and provides transparency between leadership and employees. Booz Allen has developed a Framework that implements gamified enterprise platforms.

DIVERSITY: CHANGE MANAGEMENT’S SECRET WEAPONChange can’t be achieved by just winging it. You have your change management strategy, now what? One of the first steps towards implementing changes in an organization is realizing that the employee base needed to achieve these changes is becoming increasingly diverse. This workshop will showcase proven diversity management techniques and their role within change management. Organizational changes involve a cultural change, and a diversity effort is cultural change at its core. The speaker will use exercises and group dynamics that will help the audience understand how to effectively manage change while working with diverse individuals. The lessons learned from these exercises will be leveraged to change management efforts through the use of the DiversyWheel, a disruptive approach inspired by the Cultural Neuroscience Interaction Model. Miguel will tie Diversity and Change Management with Cultural Neuroscience, the study of how cultural values, practices and beliefs shape and are shaped by brain.

About the SpeakerMiguel Joey Aviles is a Professional Speaker, Change Agent and the Founder of MJA International. EFFECTIVE CHANGE MANAGEMENT IN TODAY’S DYNAMIC GLOBAL ECONOMYIn today’s global business environment - characterized by volatility, uncertainty, chaos and ambiguity – companies cannot delegate responsibility for planning and executing strategic changes to a small cadre of change management practitioners. The environment of the 80’s called for companies to adopt a continuous improvement mindset; the 90’s demanded customer focus throughout the enterprise. Now, all leaders must learn how to navigate their teams easily through change to be competitive in the face of constant market unpredictability. Supriya Desai, CEO of ASC* Advisory, argues why the delegation of managing change to a specialized function won’t work anymore, and suggests how the CM field needs to evolve to help companies meet the new challenges of today. She will also share actions practitioners may take to kick-start the evolution. If you lead a change management function, this session will help you conceptualize what’s next for your organization…and you as a senior practitioner.

About the SpeakerSupriya Desai has deep experience with strategy execution and change/transformation as a consultant and corporate leader and, now, as CEO of ASC* Advisory. She has helped lead efforts for companies like PwC, AIG, J&J and Marriott, including enterprise wide process improvement, reorganizations, and technology-heavy global transformations. Supriya earned an MBA from Darden Business School and BS in Hospitality from Boston University, and is a certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt (PwC) and Change Leader (Cornell).

MEASURING CHANGE: THE YARDSTICK FOR SUCCESSIn 2013, Booz Allen Hamilton supported the Inter-American Development Bank’s Leveraging Efficiencies and Applying Best Practices (LEAP) Project, a study designed to strengthen the Bank’s Budget and Administrative Services (BDA) Division through the identification of key opportunities to improve the overall quality and efficiency of BDA business processes, including human resources management, organizational structure, and client service delivery. In response to these needs, Booz Allen developed the Change Success Survey (CSS), a collaborative tool which utilizes direct input from IDB leadership, BDA personnel, and special focus groups to measure attitudinal shifts along the Change Curve (from Awareness to Ownership) over time. Capturing both quantitative and qualitative data, the CSS provides systematic assessments on the effectiveness of change management strategies, and offers real-time feedback on how to improve said strategies – all through a dynamic, teachable tool which can ultimately be shared with the client, thus creating more durable change management results.

About the SpeakersTerry Mandable is a Principal with Booz Allen Hamilton on the Strategy and Organization team, where he manages the firm’s strategic communications work across civil government agencies. Mr. Mandable has created strategic change management, communication, and training approaches to assist organizations and programs in reaching their objectives and led numerous change management programs that integrate organizational focuses on communication, training, workforce planning and business process reengineering to achieve buy in and owner-ship for change.

Valeria Wedolowski is an Advisor to the General Manager of the Budget and Administrative Services Depart-ment (BDA) at the Inter- American Development Bank (IDB), and has over a decade of experience with regard to IDB operations and projects pertaining to government modernization, justice, technology, and anti-corruption in Latin America and the Caribbean. Ms. Wedolowski is currently leading the implementation of Project LEAP, an organizational study of the BDA performed by Booz Allen Hamilton in 2013.

Una Hrnjak is an Associate with Booz Allen Hamilton with 4 years of experience in developing communications, change management, and marketing approaches for U.S. and international organizations. Her clients have includ-ed a large-scale government agency, foreign governments, and Fortune 500 corporations both here in the United States and internationally, including a transformation effort with the Inter-American Development Bank and the United States Agency for International Development Mission in Jordan.

VISUALS MATTER: HOW I BECAME A CHANGE GURU JUST BY DOODLINGGavin Wedell will draw on his experiences creating the internet’s most popular change management resources to demonstrate how despite the proliferation of sophisticated methodologies and approach-es, most organizations are still struggling with the basics when attempting to boost their change capability. Explaining change concepts to senior leaders, managers, supervisors and team members in a straightforward manner in a way that promotes positive change behavior is something that still eludes many practitioners. Gavin will demonstrate how he has used visuals, infographics and videos to engage stakeholders at all levels within organizations in developing better change skills, attitudes and action plans. He will outline the three key lessons from his experiences becoming a ‘Change Management guru’: 1. The value of simplicity in change communication 2. The rarity of clarity in change programs 3. The power of visual language in building change understanding.

About the SpeakerGavin Wedell is the author of the world’s most popular free change management learning materials. He is the director of change consultancy Better Business Learning and has taught at the University of Cambridge, HEC Paris, Copenhagen Business School. Gavin has an MBA from the Judge Business School and a degree in Psychology from the University of New South Wales. He also holds formal vocational training qualifications in Australia and the U.K.

IT STARTS AT THE TOP: BUILDING ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE CAPABILITY AT HOUSTON METHODISTHealthcare in the U.S. is in a major state of change with efforts underway to limit increasing health-care spending while maintaining quality and access. Only healthcare organizations that are prepared to adapt in this changing environment will be successful. Perhaps most impacted by these changes are healthcare leaders who are attempting to adapt to new structures, systems, and expected outcomes. Two years ago, Houston Methodist (HM), a US News Best Hospital and Fortune Best Place to Work system of 15000+ employees, identified change as a key leadership competency. Since then, HM first trained 92% of executives in change sponsorship, certified 50+ HR, OD, PMO, and IT change practi-tioners, and is now putting coaching tools into the hands of leaders (150+ to date) to more proactively manage changes such as a recent ERP implementation. Up next for HM, an electronic medical records system implementation and establishment of a change management office...

OLD HABITS DIE HARD… BUT CREATING NEW HABITS IS HARD WORK TOOFar too often, strategic change initiatives don’t penetrate very far into the organization, remaining on the top management wish list rather than becoming engrained in the day-to-day behavior and mindsets of people. While change management professionals no doubt recognize the importance of targeting their interventions ‘deeper’, finding the leverage points to get below the surface is not so easy! This presentation will discuss the keystone habits and routines that form in organizations over time as one powerful point of leverage. While it is true that ‘old habits die hard’ in organizations, only some habits are worth killing. Oth-ers may need to be reinforced, built upon, or created anew and that is hard but equally important work! Our presentation will discuss how change agents and practitioners can increase their impact by understanding and tapping into habits as modifiable targets of intervention, as well as potential barriers to change.

GETTING RESULTS: USING RESISTANCE TO BUILD YOUR CHANGE MUSCLESHave you ever faced resistance in your change projects? Of course you have. But do you know how to identify that resistance and use it to your advantage? Based on the book by Rick Maurer entitled Beyond the Wall of Resistance: Why 70% of All Changes Still Fail – and What You Can Do About It, together we will talk about how to identify the type of resistance you are facing in your change efforts and the engagement strategies you can utilize to have the force be with you versus against you. Come to my workout to build up your change muscles by using resistance to get results.

STICK WITH YOUR CHANGE: APPLYING PERFORMANCE– FOCUSED COMMUNICATION TO DRIVE ADOPTIONEveryone knows “communication” is an essential process in any successful change activity. Then why does “poor/ineffective com-munication” continue to be a major reason why a strategic initiative and/or team falls short of achieving its objectives? STICK WITH YOUR CHANGE will be an interactive session that helps participants develop and strengthen an audience-centric, performance-focused orientation to plan, implement, personally deliver, and measure effective communication. Participants will learn how to build compelling messages that effectively influence stakeholder understanding, belief, and behavior. As session participants build this skill, they will build the confidence and capability to transfer this skill to others on their change team, including sponsors, champions, and change agents.

AVOIDING ORGANIZATIONAL EXHAUSTION WHEN FACED WITH CONSTANT AND LONG TERM CHANGE“The only thing constant is change” – This saying has become reality for many organizations who are trying to thrive in an ever-evolving globalized environment. As new changes seem to be relentlessly introduced into organizations, the people who need to implement the changes become overwhelmed and exhausted, and the organization becomes so saturated with “new ways of doing things” that even when people want to change – they simply can’t process anymore information or learning. Since the organization is made of people, the organization itself becomes lethargic and unable to change. This session examines the concept of “organizational exhaustion”, the implications of an exhausted organization, how ongoing change can contribute to this phenom-enon, and what can be done to avoid this state. Strategies will also be examined how to create change “energy” and engage all levels of the organization – including the executive team so that long term fundamental changes can be supported.

USING HYPOTHESIS MAPS™ TO SELECT METRICS FOR READINESS, ADOPTION, AND BENEFITS REALIZATIONWhen it comes to measuring the success of change, many efforts fall short. Teams are disbanded, resources are reassigned, and the business has its hands full just helping people cope with the transition. Inevitably every effort is labeled either a suc-cess or failure. But what goes into making this determination? Is this judgment based on factual data and evidence? And is that data available early enough in the project lifecycle for change leaders to do anything about it? In this session, change leaders will learn a simple and intuitive process for helping sponsors and project teams identify change readiness and adoption metrics using Hypothesis Maps™. This technique helps leaders select smart metrics by first understanding the relationships between expected business results before, during, and after the change. Change leaders will walk away with a facilitator’s guide, tools and examples so that they can immediately apply this practice in their work.

About the SpeakerDeb Peluso has spent 15 years collaborating with clients in military, government, for-profit and non-profit organizations to improve organizational performance and execute large scale change. THE RELEVANCE AND IRRELEVANCE OF CHANGE MANAGEMENT IN AGILE ORGANIZATIONS: LEARNINGS FROM RESEARCH AND PRACTICEThere’s little disagreement about our living in an increasingly VUCA world – volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous. Yet many organizations continue to redesign and implement organization as if it will be in some kind of steady state. Is achieving and maintaining some form of stability the key to success? Or is it a fantasy?

Our research and practice with organization agility points to a radical conclusion: Change management is obsolete. In this ses-sion I will compare the types of change implied by models of organization agility to the typical change models and processes we apply in organizations, and share what our research and practice suggests about designing organizations for performance and the implications for the skills, tools, and practices of OD professionals in the future.

BREAKTHROUGHS IN DESIGNING LEARNING INITIATIVESOrganizational changes can succeed or fail on the strength of the learning initiatives an organization uses to put those changes into practice. Yet, as we all know far too well, from experience, people tend to forget what they’ve learned once they get back on the job, and they don’t put it into practice. Neuroscience explains how to design learning initiatives so that the lessons last. We’ll discuss four lessons from research that both help make sense of what many learning initiatives have been doing wrong, and point to what to do instead. We’ll also explore how to apply these lessons in the design of new learning initiatives.

BRINGING SCIENCE AND PREDICTIVE ANALYTICS TO THE DISCIPLINE OF CHANGE MANAGEMENTChange management is increasingly a science-based discipline, which promises to improve the success rate of major programs. Yet the variables involving business, organization and individual factors can number in the billions. Predictive analytics is essential—using large data sets to understand what is really happening during a change program. At the same time, complex algorithms must deliver readily understandable information. In this session, Accenture shares insights drawing on data from a major research project spanning more than 15 years. A comprehensive database and analytics system has been built from the responses of over 600,000 individuals in organizations across a variety of industries, nationalities and languages. Results are presented in easy-to-understand change “maps” so that management can see progress and test the effects of different actions. This session will help change leaders understand many of the myths of change and how to plan and execute programs based on solid data.

About the SpeakerWarren Parry is the Accenture Global ChangeTracking Lead. He was founder and CEO of ChangeTrack Research which was acquired by Accenture in April 2013. Warren has over 20 years of experience in consulting with global clients in all industries. He has lodged 16 patents, published in international journals and talks regularly at conferences. He is writing a book which challenges the myths within traditional change management practices, to be published in early 2014 by KoganPage.

With over 472,000 employees worldwide, Deutsche Post DHL introduced the First Choice Way with the aim of becoming the provider, employer and investment of choice. Realizing that this would require a cultural transformation, an ambitious change program was initiated, with thousands of employees engaged across Deutsche Post DHL’s global operations. Moving beyond an emphasis on compliance and process-driven improvement, the First Choice Way has focused on engaging employees in the vision for change through leadership and role modeling, to create the desired culture of continuous improvement. The presentation includes the explanation of the 5-step change approach applied to this culture change, together with pragmatic change activities that can help improve the people side of the transformation.

The classic approach to change management isn’t enough anymore. Moving people from a current to a future state with traditional change management is not only obsolete, it’s insufficient. Major mergers, acquisitions, re-orgs, efficiency programs, and other internally facing initiatives happen more frequently, and often at the same time. There’s no doubt: the employee experience is being negatively affected. So what do you do in the face of this constantly shifting business landscape? Talk to us. Come by booth 206 and let’s talk about how agile methodologies, user-centered design, and change saturation tools are changing change.

STRATEGIES FOR INCREASING CHANGE MATURITY WITHIN AN ORGANIZATIONA common challenge facing organizations today is how to take the disparate knowledge around managing change and apply it in a meaningful way to create a sustainable and mature set of change capabilities. This session will focus on how to organize and leverage these capabilities despite significant cultural barriers, cross and intra-functional resistance, and a lack of awareness of the importance that change management brings in order to create a robust internal change management competency.

About the SpeakersTrevor Spunt has spent 20+ years helping global organizations successfully plan and execute change. A thought leader, coach, and passionate advocate for the power of managing change, Mr. Spunt has established and led a successful change management practice for one of the big 4 consulting firms, and helped clients develop their own change management competency. He currently manages his own international Change Management firm, ChangeWise Consulting, dedicated to providing high value outcomes for his clients.

Tammy Dollar is a Global Leader in Organizational Change, Ms. Dollar has spent 20+ years building, directing and inspiring cross-functional, multi-national teams to achieve lasting change. With a track record of successfully leading change in complex and decentralized global organizations, Ms. Dollar has earned a reputation for transforming organizational challenges into sustainable success.

WHAT DO A PLANE CRASH, A DESERTED ISLAND AND A VOLLEYBALL HAVE TO DO WITH ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE?Business leaders recognize maintaining high employee satisfaction is a critical factor in maintaining high customer satisfaction. Ironically, employee satisfaction in our globally competitive marketplace may be a more complicated challenge. WHY? The answer is rooted in the need to understand the employees who add complexity to the dynamics in an organization. Change management professionals will recognize that understanding individual employees who collectively constitute the organization is a massive challenge. Using the Attachment Theory as a basis, we will explore and identify various change models and potential areas for appropriate integration. We will introduce symptomatic behaviors expected to emerge in employees during organization change and consider options to identify these behaviors. We will integrate organizational data and comprehensive case studies to support the significant contribution of Attachment Theory to the organizational change process and its potential value in mitigating the reasons for the high failure rate associated with organizational change initiatives.

About the SpeakersVictoria M. Grady is an Assistant Professorial Lecturer at The George Washington University. Her research is focused on understanding the tendency of individuals, often subconsciously, to struggle, resist, and potentially disrupt the organizational change initiatives. Dr. Grady continues to build upon her original research through the development of a quantitative measure that identifies individual change readiness/response. The research population includes Healthcare organizations, Federal Gov’t agencies, Higher Education Institutions, and Military Personnel, and Private companies.

Kristen M Lilly has over 14 years of experience in the U.S. healthcare industry as an operations director at the hospital and corporate levels. Kristen’s expertise is broad in scope including health information management, quality metric analysis, EMR implementation, and training and organizational development. Kristen has presented at the national level as well as provided numerous training and development sessions for departmental teams.

LEADERSHIP PRACTICES: EMBEDDING SPONSORSHIP OF CHANGE MANAGEMENT INTO THE ORGANIZATION’S CULTUREChange Management Professionals are always also, by necessity, managing the presence or the absence of effectual leadership sponsorship within the organizations they serve. Excellent work is done in context, and Change Managers often work in the context of organizational leadership practices that fail the leadership test itself, let alone the tests posed by important change. In this session, Dr. Stahl-Wert will present in simple and immediately actionable terms the leadership practices observed in the more than one hundred effective executives he has served worldwide. These executives cultivate organizations quick to adapt, people who are passionate in their engagement, and systems that support change and growth. This session will be hands-on and highly interactive, and will provide both a full framework for understanding effective leadership practice, as well as two or three immediately actionable practices that participants can take back to their organizations or share with leaders they serve.

About the SpeakerDr. John Stahl-Wert is a founding partner of Serving Ventures, Senior Fellow for the Center for Executive Leadership (Beijing), and previously was columnist for Business Management Review (Beijing) addressing the subjects of leadership integrity and worker engagement. He serves as Adjunct Faculty for Bakke Graduate University (Hong Kong) and is a member of the National Speakers Association. John co-authored the international bestseller, The Serving Leader (over 100,000 books sold), and seven other highly acclaimed titles.

DIE HARD OR SPY HARD – IS YOUR SPONSOR MAKING OR BREAKING THE CHANGE?Various research consider effective sponsorship #1 success factor for change initiatives. Ineffective sponsorship from senior leaders is #1 failure factor. Due to Prosci’s Best Practices in Change Management above 50% sponsors are considered not to have an adequate understanding of their role. The will to play sponsor role is not enough to be successful. Many cases indicate that resistance to change starts from sponsors, although they verbally declare full support to the change they sponsor. Thus managing the Sponsor’s resistance might be the first challenge for CMO expert, HR or consultant supporting the change. How to identify sources of sponsor’s resistance, how to manage it for the benefit of the change – while the Sponsor remains your boss or client? These are only examples of challenges that one may face while supporting the Sponsor.Lessons learned come from real-life cases of companies transformed by BPI Group – and from presenter’s CEO experience.

About the SpeakerKrzysztof Ogonowski is President of BPI Poland, a part of BPI Group, global management and HR consulting firm dedicated to driving change. His consulting experience comes from projects of implementing major changes and organizational transformation in biggest companies operating in Poland. He has over 15 years of training experience and academic experience at Warsaw School of Economics in Project and Change Management. Founding member of ACMP, ICC coach. Certified PROSCI Trainer in Change Management.

BRANDING & MARKETING A CHANGE INITIATIVE: SECRETS FROM MADISON AVE TO CREATE BUZZ & ENGAGE STAKEHOLDERSLeading companies have long understood the power of brand building to enlist and influence consumers. Now progressive companies are applying these techniques – internally - to tap into the hearts and minds of employees and to build energy and enthusiasm for key strategic initiatives. Branding helps leaders clearly articulate a purpose that stakeholders can relate to and engage in; and the communications plan is a natural extension of this brand platform.

This session will help change professionals apply proven techniques to develop a brand and engagement campaign – either solo or in concert with a marketing team. Using examples from world-class companies, you’ll get practical branding techniques and a set of marketing tools to build trust, create stakeholder alignment, and communicate effectively for successful change.

About the SpeakersSondra Kiss – As senior partner of Kissinger Group, Sondra calls on her background in journalism, her understanding of psychology and her corporate training expertise, to design change leadership and communication programs for some of the nation’s largest organizations. Successes include merger integrations, enterprise-wide technology implementations, major process improvements and critical cultural shifts in financial services, healthcare, energy and technology industries. Her career includes over a decade in consulting, and 7 years running a large Canadian training firm.

Denise Lee Yohn cultivated her brand-building and change engagement approaches through several high-level positions in advertising and client-side marketing. She served as lead strategist at advertising agencies for Burger King and Land Rover and headed Sony Electronic Inc.’s first ever brand office, garnering major corporate awards, as the vice president/general manager of brand and strategy. Denise recently wrote the book What Great Brands Do: The Seven Brand-Building Principles that Separate the Best from the Rest (Jossey-Bass).

LaMarsh Global provides change management consulting, learning, certification and executive coaching services using our Managed Change™ methodology. This data driven process helps project teams, change agents and project sponsors navigate through complex changes by systematically:

1. identifying people who must change,2. identifying potential reasons they might resist the change and,3. developing action plans to minimize/eliminate resistance.

Our proprietary approach works to mitigate risk associated with resistance and facilitate acceptance of change more rapidly.
