Expert Advisor Duties When EA leaves feedback for students, begin a new strand only when it’s a new topic and begin the thread title
with EA, to designate its importance and requirement for student responses. Start thread with topic number and letter,
EAS should clearly identify the students in their group, check the ning, be aware of the student’s location, age, study level
Some students are 14, some are 19, makes a difference in how to respond Very close and supportive advice will be needed on Copyright and Plagiarism, they are different, students (and
teachers)confuse the two Teachers will need support as well, maybe via the e-mail? Important to advise students to arrange a good plan, which will have a timeline. Students need to analyse how many classes are remaining in the project, and what time they have. EAs can
help them time-manage. How much time have I left? When do I begin the video? Teachers do this, but usually miss deadlines, so EAs will
need to keep the ball rolling Basic advice on wiki page layout. Appoint an editor, decide on language style, EAs can monitor and guide this. Each expert is asked to take at least two times to read and leave feedback on the main wiki page of the group
on the discussion tab of the page. Students contributions need to be read and responded to. Vicki had a great style, e.g. “ I love what you have
written...FULL of new interesting points....can you perhaps check the source of XXX as it appears to be from some protected source...(gentle hint after great praise...)
Your job is to provide feedback and point out resources to the team. You are an "advisor." Please join our diigo group and your bookmarks will be sent to the groups. If you're not sure of what a term is, they align to the Flatteners assigned to each team and from Thomas Friedman's book, The World is Flat. (From the EA page on the main wiki)
What to watch for... provide feedback: Any typical writing errors: grammar, tone, etc. Accuracy of Information Appeal of the wiki: use of whitespace, text and graphics. What makes a reader stay on a webpage longer? Textual formatting - helping students understand not to use “Headings” settings to format text as it will
alter the formatting of the page and feed into the Page outline. Assuring sources are cited. Be positive and supportive. Constructive, but not critical. The goal is to increase student participation and
engagement by building students up (but not falsely). Offer praise, too for students doing the right thing so other students will look to that as a model of what TO
do.
Meeting Summary Questions, comments, suggestions … Thank you!
