Major Points of Emphasis for Study:

o BIOP211 Use the Tutorial Peer Review document to focus your studies. You compile these each week in your Drug Diary from Session 5 to Session 13

o These questions are also given in each Tutorial Handout from Session 5 to Session 13. These questions are also given in your Reading Guide. If you have finished compiling your drug diary by the Study Period Weeks 15 and 16 (Weeks 14 and 15 online), then the Reading Guide also contains other Study Activities such as applications and cohesion questions, reading activities, animations and videos. The Study Period is also a good time to do Review Quizzes, if you have not already attempted them.

o The Tutorial Peer Review questions are also used to ensure that you select from a wide range of drugs affecting body systems in your Assignment 2

o Preparation for the Tutorial Peer Review questions also prepares you for the short answer questions on the final exam, as these too are compiled from the questions in the Tutorials

o Ensure that you can apply concepts of Pharmacology and Pharmacodynamics (Studied in Sessions 1, 2 and 3) to the drugs affecting the body systems.

o Important points of application will be in explaining adverse drug reactions, ADR, interactions between drugs and herbs or nutrients from either a pharmacodynamics or pharmacokinetic perspective

o First pass metabolism and bioavailability will also be key concepts. So revision questions from Sessions 1, 2 and 3 are provided in the Review Questions on Endeavour LMS

Recommended General Study Strategies: The Drug Diary integrates your visual and kinaesthetic learning styles. Learners who are sequential in their style are able to follow a systematic approach each week, using this Drug Diary, to enable them to integrate BIOP211 study for final exams with their study for other subjects. Do not leave this Drug Diary until the Study Period (Weeks 15 and 16 oncampus, Weeks 14 and 15 online). Keep working on the Drug Diary regularly, doing as much as you can each week, in both class/ forum Tutorials and in private study. Inductive (global) learners get the chance each week to look for patterns in their drug diary entries, and to make links with the Drugs affecting the Body Systems, and the key concepts of pharmacodynamics (mechanism or mode of action, MofA) and pharmacokinetics (aspects such as first pass metabolism, bioavailability, absorption, distribution, elimination and metabolism).
