The external environment of an organisation is all events outside a company that have the potential to influence or affect it. The external environment can be divided into the specific and the general external environment. The specific environment of an organisation is made up of the customers, competitors, suppliers, industry regulations and advocacy groups that are unique to an industry and directly affect how a company does business. Customers are people or other organisations who buy the goods or

services of a company. Competitors are other individuals or organisations who are in the same

industry that sell similar products or services Suppliers are companies that provide material, human, financial and

informational resources to other companies Industry regulations are the rules that ensure an organisation complies with

community standards and the law Advocacy groups are groups of concerned citizens who band together to

try to influence the business practices of specific industries, business and professions.
