How do we participate and contribute in achieving Malaysian economy transformation toward one that “highly competitive, knowledge and
technology-rich “
When “hazard” consciously becoming factors to people safety, environment and asset issues, public is raising standards and requirement to safeguard the concerns, and raising standards would allow us to participate in the international economy which implies that domestic firms will have to take into account multiple standards
3
Standards demonstrate uniformity, quality products, which becomes generally accepted and dominant is often called a de facto standard.
In current scenario, the requirement or needs of public has evolved; a standard is useful if it is a solution to a problem.
Moving forward, in a Globalised Economy, meeting Standards is pre-requisite for survival.
Key Messages – why we need standards?
4
However, what makes one standards better than the others for Ex? – Malaysia’s direction on IECEx
“Ex” is an internationally recognised abbreviated term for explosion-proof

National Ex Management Committee have the right to review and make comments on all IECEx Operational Documents to ensure Malaysia interest is being well protected.
Many industries operating in the country are having installation with explosive atmospheres and it is timely to put in-place a regulatory requirement for the industries to be in full compliance with MS/IEC standards 60079 as well as the IECEx Scheme.
Need to create better awareness in such industries as the risk of operating the installation without proper compliance to standards may cause fatality, damage to property and environment as well as loss of credibility.
A National strategy need to be establish to implement the requirements of the IECEx Scheme and make Malaysia “Centre of Excellence in the Ex field” within the region.
