The Evolution of Media by Kayalynn Spencer
The evolution of media
Over the years the media we all know and use has constantly been changing, many
types of media that older generations may have used have already become
redundant. In this essay I will be considering the future of media and where it may
take us.
The media disaster that was the news of the world hacking scandal, forced Rupert
Murdoch to resign and ordered the downfall of one of the world’s major newspaper
companies, leaving all newspaper publishing to fallen into decline. Newspapers have
already evolved allowing their audience to access this medium online; in the future
they will be replaced by hand held electronic devices called an e-paper.
The e-paper is much like a kindle, allowing the user to purchase the newspaper
online and it appears on the screen. The electronic device is instantaneous giving
the user the choice of when and where they read the newspaper.
Music has changed a considerable about over the years, once a stationary record
player; it has now evolved into something anyone can carry around in their pocket,
music can be downloaded onto phones and personal players such as iPods and mp3
players. You can also find music on online forums such as YouTube, iPods and Mp3
Players also continue to improve as the years go by.
Television and Radio are also making their mark in the evolution of media; television
and radio have now switched to digital frequencies, increasing the quality of the
picture and sound. Televisions now have HD channels so you can watch your

favourite programmes in high definition. In this day service providers such as sky
and virgin media have created a service where programmes can be recorded,
rewound and paused at the views leisure. Television and Radio can often be enjoyed
online, thanks to services such as BBC iPlayer and 4OD viewers can watch
programmes at times that suite them. Television has even come as far as Three
Dimensional Viewing, how long will it be before 4D Televisions will be available to all.
To conclude I would like to begin by saying that the evolution of media will continue
to prosper, once complex expensive technology, has now become available to all. At
least one person in every home indulges in online viewing and majority of the
population of Britain own an iPod. As numbers of old fashion radios begin to
decrease and newspaper sales begin to fall, media is still being used all over the
world.
